Rebirth: Leading Families to Survive in the Apocalypse

Chapter 243: Paving the Way for Her

During dinner, Lin Tianhui also mentioned these matters—the new hospital’s location for the base had been selected, and she would be working there from now on, no longer needing to run around every day.

Lin Tianhui couldn’t even dare to imagine that she would become a healer in the Apocalypse.

Remembering the items in her Space, Su Jin said, “Mom, I’ll go with you to the hospital tomorrow to check it out.”

“What? Why are you going to the hospital? You’re not feeling unwell, are you?” Lin Tianhui asked worriedly, she hadn’t been paying much attention to her daughter these past few days—could she be sick?

“Mom, what are you thinking? I’m going to negotiate a deal,”

Su Jin said with a mysterious face.

“Negotiate a deal?”

The whole table asked in unison, what kind of business could Su Jin have at the hospital?

“Do you remember when we hid from the rain on the outskirts of D Province and took shelter in a warehouse district?” Su Jin prompted.

“I know! Is it that batch of medical equipment?”

Guo Yang was the first to remember. At that time, because his Space was too small, he only took some food, but Su Jin had nearly emptied those warehouses!

Su Jin smiled and nodded; she had this idea when Lin Tianhui joined the medical team, but it had been delayed until now with the establishment of the hospital.

“Are you going to sell that stuff?” Mao Zhihang also asked.

“Not sell, but donate,” Su Jin said.

What? Donate? Isn’t that a losing business?

“Su Jin, when did you become so generous?”

Lin Xiuyuan asked incredulously; in his mind, Su Jin was the type who saw money—or rather, Crystal Cores—as paramount.

Su Jin glared at Lin Xiuyuan, and Lu Hao couldn’t help but burst into laughter, indeed Su Jin wasn’t “so generous.”

Su Jin’s donation, of course, came with conditions: she would use this batch of medical equipment to help Lin Tianhui become an investor in the hospital. She wanted Lin Tianhui to be not only a healer at the hospital but also a shareholder with certain management rights and profit-sharing.

In the Apocalypse, healers and doctors were among the most exhausted professions in the base hospitals.

In her previous life, she heard of many healers being worked to death. Sometimes it was due to the base’s authoritarian management, demanding healers to work continuously for many hours a day; other times, it was to perform therapies for dying high-ranking individuals, trying to save someone near death. The difficulty was akin to exchanging life for life, and it didn’t extend the person’s life by much, but the healers had to pay a high price, sometimes even with their own lives…

Although it was possible that such things would not happen in the S City base, because Lin Tianhui seemed to enjoy her work, if she wanted to continue in the long run, Su Jin still wanted to consider more for her. And the idea of hospital profit-sharing was very tempting indeed.

However, she did not speak of these things, after all, Guo Yang and the others were also there, and everyone only needed to know her intentions. Whether it could be successful or not would have to be discussed with the hospital’s management later on.

Lin Xiuyuan understood. He knew Su Jin would not be so generous as to donate everything, but thinking of everything Su Jin had done for the family and the Space, he felt she was somewhat noble. If it were not for Su Jin’s guidance, they might have been as Su Jin had described.

The person in charge of the base hospital was undoubtedly Xu Mingzhi from the previous Refuge, but Lu Hao suggested that the true power behind the scenes should be Liang Jiuhui, so the matter would eventually have to be discussed with Liang Jiuhui.

Before going to bed, Su Jin knocked on Mao Qiqi’s room door, and after receiving Mao Qiqi’s response, she pushed the door open and entered.

Mao Qiqi now lived in a room by herself. The furniture and layout were still like those back in H City, even the stuffed toys and desk she liked before were brought over by Su Jin who had put them in her Space.

“Sister Xiao Jin, you were looking for me?”

Wearing pink pajamas, Mao Qiqi climbed down from her bed and then pulled out a stool from under her desk for Su Jin to sit on.

“Yeah, Qiqi, have you felt any changes with your Special Ability these past few days?” Su Jin didn’t beat around the bush, and asked directly.

“Nope, it’s the same as before, only I don’t let it affect my sleep anymore,”

Mao Qiqi said happily. When her Special Ability first appeared, she often saw her own little map even while she was sleeping, which really impacted her sleep. But ever since Sister Xiao Jin had mentored her, she had been trying to control it on her own, and it no longer affected her sleep now.

“Then today, when that woman kidnapped you, did you use your Special Ability to attack her?”

Su Jin’s question made Mao Qiqi pause for a moment.

“Nope,” Mao Qiqi furrowed her brows and thought for a while.

She was indeed very angry at the time; not only had the woman held a knife to her throat, but she had also forced Uncle Guo to hand over so many things. She had wished she could have killed the woman on the spot.

But using her Special Ability? Now that she thought about it, she really couldn’t remember, and her Special Ability wasn’t suited for attacking others either.

Seeing the puzzled look on Mao Qiqi’s face, Su Jin knew she hadn’t controlled her Mental Element Ability to attack that woman.

Could the woman’s reaction back then have been a coincidence?

But thinking about it, it made sense; Qiqi’s Ability was only Level One for now, and probably hadn’t reached that extent.

“It’s nothing, Qiqi, I might be overthinking it. You should get some sleep early,” Su Jin said with a smile.

“Okay! Good night, Sister Xiao Jin.”

After sending Su Jin away, Mao Qiqi lay in her own bed, thinking back to the question Sister Xiao Jin had asked her. Using her Special Ability to attack someone?

Could it be that her Special Ability had other offensive capabilities besides mapping?

Lu Hao sat in his room, reading a book while waiting for Su Jin. When he saw Su Jin return, he put the book aside from his lap and asked, “Did you get anything out of her?”

It turned out that both Lu Hao and Su Jin had noticed that woman’s odd behavior that day. If it hadn’t been for some extreme pain, the woman wouldn’t have lost her composure in that situation.

“Qiqi doesn’t seem to know, but I can’t rule out that it was an unconscious action on her part. It’s probably not a bad thing, anyway,” Su Jin said, smiling.

“Yeah, that makes sense. Are you going with mom to see Liang Jiuhui tomorrow?” Lu Hao asked.

“Yes, I am. Hospitals must be really short on those devices now, and just in case they lose their value later on…” Su Jin leaned against the bed, pondering and speaking. She was determined to pave the way for Lin Tianhui.

“Okay, I have to go to Ban Xiaobo’s place tomorrow,”

Lu Hao said with a smile. Today, to his surprise, he had run into Ban Xiaobo in the shop, and according to him, they had opened a car repair business right next to the Base Hospital and had invited Lu Hao to check it out.

“That impressive?” Su Jin expressed her surprise.

A car repair business inside the base? That certainly sounded novel.
