Re: Player

Chapter 274: [Before the Storm(II)]

"How are the preparations going?"

I wanted to thank him. I wanted to ask him how he did it. Even though the truth was already spoken and the proof was in front of me, I still wanted to confirm once more. But before I could take the chance, the conversation drifted with Vladimir answering Sir Adam's question.

"I don't know how you did it, but the entire underground market has been stirred. Everyone is ready to take part in the war. Their reasons… Well, they are all over the place but mostly it's about earning the spoils of war by capturing the bodies of the angels and the demons," Vladmir spoke as he briefed Adam of the situation that was going on within the underground city.

It was disgusting, but then again that's what made up the majority of the humans in the underworld.

"All right. With that done, I have special work for you guys in the war. If you can finish the tasks, you might be able to achieve your own goals in the process as well," Adam spoke as he then walked towards the window and looked down at the city in front of him.

I know that Vladmir has something to do with this Luciana girl, while Geralt simply wants to protect the city. But what does he mean by my goal? Or perhaps he was excluding me? I wondered about that…

"Are you sure we can protect the city?" Geralt asked with concern written all over his face, while Adam gave a confident smile as he answered," it shouldn't be too hard. Though what happens after that will be more burdensome for you, you know? The after effects of war and such."

"I don't mind them really," Geralt spoke with a sigh before he asked," so. What do I need to do?"

"Collect the forces and protect the citizens of the city. While the war between and the angels will be all over the place, the most vulnerable would be the humans and the demis. Irrespective of their race or nationality, I would like to issue a command to protect the people here. Whether they are from the slums or from the highest authority, protect everyone. I can trust you with that, right Geralt?" Adam asked as Geralt nodded immediately,

"You don't have to tell me that. That was our duty from the beginning."

"Then leave the war to me and my brother for now. As much as possible, I will try to stop the war from spreading towards the city," Adam assured Geralt, making him nod back. And then turning to Vladmir, he looked deep into his eyes and asked,

"Once again. Are you sure you want to face her?"

"I do. And yes, even if I die, then it will be all worth it," Vladmir answered as he looked at Adam. His eyes seemed to carry fury in them, while he simply waited for Adam to continue.

"Sigh. All right. I will create a chance for you to face her. Just keep yourself alive until then," Adam finished his words before he finally turned to me.

I flinched a little as he observed me and my brother before he seemed to be pondering something. And then when he finished collecting his thoughts he spoke out,

"I know your situation. Runaways from the Kingdom of Fire, and currently a fugitive who is accused of killing a Noble."

My eyes widened as he recalled our reasons for why we are on constant run.

"How did you-"

"I also know that you are collecting money to save your brothers and sisters from the slave traders all over the world. That is your current purpose for running around the world, isn't it?" Adam interrupted me as he read my situation as clear as day. Read latest stories on My Virtual Library Empire

It was true. We did kill a noble bastard who was trying to rape me. It was my brother who slit his throat, and I was the one who killed the three other men who attacked my brother. While we did succeed in escaping the country, the cost was that our orphanage siblings were sold as slaves all over the world. Not only them but even the sisters and caretakers were attacked, killed or sold.

For now, we were too weak to do anything against those people in the Fire Kingdom. But at the very least, we could try to save our loved ones… that is the sole reason we are always on the run, trying to find more information about our siblings as much as we can.

It's a really tragic life, something that made me wonder if this is what we really amount to?

"How do you… know about this?" My brother asked with an expression of surprise written all over his face. While he normally puts up a brave front in even the scariest of situations, once our secret comes out, you can find traces of fear in them.

"I have my means. And you don't need to worry, I am not really interested in how you live your life and what you do. Though since I am asking you to participate in a war that has nothing to do with you, it will only be right if I could return the favour in some way," Adam answered, making us relieved and a bit tense at the same time.

Relieved that we don't have to worry about him selling us out. Tensed, wondering what he would ask us to do during the war.

"Since you both are searching for your siblings, I think I can arrange some way for you to locate them. It won't be possible immediately but I think I can find them if I ask a certain friend of mine. How about that? Do you think it will motivate you?" His smile was that of a businessman's smile, making us happy but still shuddering at what he would ask in return.

And the answer to that was…

"So in return… Tell me Aisha, how well can you dance?"
