Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Agreement
"Gary—!"
The shouts of Gary's fan club, a group of devoted followers, echoed across the field. Their idol had just suffered his first defeat at the hands of none other than Ash Ketchum. For them, it was an unexpected and bitter pill to swallow.
"As expected of Ash," murmured a few of the older spectators. Over the years, they had witnessed the ongoing rivalry between the two boys, and Ash often came out on top in their friendly competitions. To them, this outcome wasn't surprising but still worthy of admiration.
Gary, standing by his fainted Squirtle, clenched his fists tightly. "I lost…" he admitted, though his voice was filled with determination rather than despair. "But next time, it will be different. I'll win."
Ash adjusted his cap and looked Gary in the eye. Pikachu, perched proudly on Ash's shoulder, squeaked in agreement. "Pikachu and I won't lose, not now, not ever," Ash replied confidently.
Gary's expression hardened, but there was no animosity in his tone. "This was a fair battle, Ash. You and Pikachu earned that win. But don't get too comfortable. I'll train harder, and the next time we face off, I'll show you what I'm truly capable of."
Ash nodded, respecting Gary's resolve. "We'll be waiting."

Respect and Rivalry
Gary turned on his heel, his fan club trailing behind him. Despite their disappointment, they couldn't help but admire his determination. They lingered outside Professor Oak's lab, unable to follow Gary inside but still loyal to their idol.
Meanwhile, Ash was greeted by the townsfolk, who surrounded him with cheers and words of encouragement.
"Ash, that was incredible! You're going to be a great Trainer!"
"Pikachu is amazing, and so are you! We're rooting for you, Ash!"
The encouragement brought a wide grin to Ash's face. "Thank you! I promise I won't let you down. I'm going to become a Pokémon Master!" he declared boldly.
Pikachu raised its tiny fists triumphantly, its confidence matching Ash's. "Pika pika!"

A Mother's Love
As the crowd dispersed, Ash turned to leave. He was eager to return home, pack his belongings, and officially begin his journey. But before he could take a step, a familiar voice called out to him.
"Ash!"
Turning, he saw his mother, Delia Ketchum, standing at the edge of the field. She was smiling warmly, holding a green backpack in one hand.
"Mom? What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at work?" Ash asked, surprised to see her.
Delia walked over and ruffled his hair affectionately. "Today is your big day, Ash. When my boss found out, they insisted I leave early. I couldn't miss this moment," she explained. Her gaze shifted to Pikachu. "And who's this little one?"
"This is Pikachu, my partner!" Ash said proudly, lifting Pikachu off his shoulder. "We've already been through our first battle together."
Pikachu waved a paw and let out a cheerful "Pika pika!"
Delia chuckled and gently patted Pikachu on the head. "Take care of my son for me, okay, Pikachu?"
Pikachu purred in response, nuzzling against Delia's hand.

A Special Gift
"Oh, before I forget," Delia said, handing Ash the green backpack. "I packed your clothes, lunch, some snacks, and water. There's enough here to last you for a while."
Ash took the backpack and noticed something unusual about it. Despite its small size, it seemed to hold a lot more than it should.
"Wait… is this a spatial backpack?" he asked in amazement.
Delia nodded, her smile never fading. "Yes. I saved up for it so you'd have everything you need for your journey."
Ash's eyes widened. Spatial backpacks were a recent invention and incredibly expensive. They used advanced technology to store items in a compact space, making them perfect for Trainers.
"But, Mom, this must have cost a fortune…" Ash said, his voice trailing off. He knew how hard his mother worked and couldn't imagine how long it had taken her to save up for such a gift.
Delia waved off his concern. "Don't worry about that, Ash. I want you to focus on your journey. This is my way of supporting you."
Ash felt a lump in his throat. He looked at the backpack, then at his mother. "Thank you, Mom. I'll make you proud. I promise."
Delia hugged him tightly, holding back her own emotions. "Just remember to take care of yourself, Ash. Be cautious, make friends, and don't take unnecessary risks. If you ever feel overwhelmed, it's okay to take a step back."
Ash nodded, listening intently to her words. He could feel the weight of her love and worry in every piece of advice she gave.

A New Beginning
As Delia prepared to leave, Ash remembered something important. "Oh, Mom, the Professor told me that new Trainers receive a monthly subsidy from the Pokémon League. That should help with expenses."
Delia's face lit up with relief. "That's wonderful news! It'll make things a little easier."
Ash smiled. He knew how much his mother had sacrificed for him, and he was determined to make her proud.
"Take care, Ash," Delia said, giving him one final hug. "And don't forget to call home once in a while."
"I will," Ash promised. "Bye, Mom. Thank you for everything."
As Delia walked away, Ash stood there for a moment, watching her go. Pikachu tugged gently on his sleeve, as if to say, "Let's get going."
"You're right, Pikachu," Ash said, adjusting the backpack on his shoulders. "Our journey starts now."
With the sun setting on Pallet Town, Ash and Pikachu took their first steps toward the horizon, ready to face whatever challenges awaited them.
Unbeknownst to them, this was only the beginning of an adventure that would test their bond, their strength, and their determination to achieve greatness.
Ash looked down at Pikachu and grinned. "Let's show the world what we're made of, buddy."
"Pika pika!" Pikachu responded, its eyes shining with excitement.
Together, they disappeared down the road, leaving behind the familiar comforts of home for the thrilling unknown.
