Chapter 154: Isaac Newton!
Tyranitar's claws gleamed as it unleashed a devastating Dragon Claw attack, followed by a ferocious strike from its fangs. The battlefield trembled as Venusaur's massive form was hurled into the wall with a resounding crash, leaving cracks spiderwebbing across the surface. Venusaur didn't move—the impact had completely immobilized it.
"Petal Blizzard, now!" Charles commanded, desperation etched on his face. But the opportunity was lost.
John smirked. He'd used the smoke and chaos from Hyper Beam and the fiery eruption of Solar Beam to conceal Tyranitar's approach. The battlefield's tremors betrayed the towering creature's rapid advance. Isaac's strategy had backfired spectacularly; where he faltered, John had seized victory.
The referee, momentarily stunned by the scene, regained his composure and raised his flag. "Venusaur is unable to battle! Tyranitar wins! The challenger, John, is victorious!"
The crowd erupted into cheers, but Charles's face turned crimson. His frustration boiled over. "This was supposed to be a simple test, not a battle against some overpowered monstrosity!" he muttered under his breath. "Alfred lied to me about the difficulty…"
Unable to accept his loss, Charles turned to the referee. "I demand a blood test on that Tyranitar! It's clearly been enhanced with banned substances."
The accusation hung in the air, drawing gasps from the onlookers. John froze for a moment, his disbelief giving way to a sardonic laugh. "Seriously? You're accusing me of cheating because you lost?"
The referee hesitated. It was true Tyranitar's power was extraordinary, but it was also a colossal Pokemon, known for its immense strength.
Before the referee could respond, a commanding voice cut through the tension. "That won't be necessary."
All eyes turned to the entrance of the arena, where a tall, broad-shouldered man stood, his presence radiating authority. Beside him was a young woman, her posture exuding confidence.
"Master Isaac!" Charles stammered, his confidence crumbling. The man's sharp gaze swept over him before settling on John.
Isaac Newton, the renowned leader of the Chiba Gym, spoke with icy precision. "Losing is one thing. Accusing others to cover your own inadequacies is another. Referee, record John's result: full marks."
"Yes, Gym Leader Isaac!" the referee said, quickly marking the score sheet.
John inclined his head respectfully as Isaac approached. The gym leader's scrutiny was intense, but not unkind. "Charles, tell me, why did you use your ace Pokemon in the first round? Were you trying to humiliate your opponent?"
Charles's face paled. "I… I was instructed to," he muttered. "Senior Trainer Alfred told me to ensure he learned a lesson."
John chuckled darkly. "Did you think I needed you to take it easy on me?"
Isaac's expression hardened. "Charles, you've disgraced yourself. You're barred from participating in gym events for the next three years. Reflect on your actions."
Charles opened his mouth to protest but faltered under Isaac's piercing gaze. "Yes, Master," he mumbled before slinking out of the arena.
With Charles gone, Isaac turned to John, his demeanor shifting to one of interest. "Impressive battle. But tell me, do you think you fought seriously?"
John hesitated. "I… I did my best," he replied cautiously.
Isaac's lips curled into a faint smile. "Let's find out, shall we? One-on-one. You and me. No strings attached. If you win, I'll have a surprise for you."
John's heart raced. A chance to battle the renown Isaac? He couldn't resist. "I accept."
Isaac nodded to the referee, who seemed almost giddy with excitement. "Prepare for a one-on-one battle! Trainer John Pokemon versus Gym Leader Isaac Newton! The match ends when one Pokemon is unable to battle."
Both trainers reached for their Pokeballs, locking eyes as they threw them into the air. In twin flashes of light, their Pokemon materialized on the field.
Isaac's Abomasnow towered over the field, its snow-white fur and icy blue limbs making it look like a frost-covered colossus.
John's Garchomp, sleek and menacing, stood ready. Its blade-like fins gleamed under the stadium lights.
Isaac raised an eyebrow. "A bold choice, considering your Garchomp's glaring weakness to Ice."
John's jaw tightened. "Garchomp has its own advantages. Let's see if Abomasnow can handle them."
The referee raised his flag. "Begin!"
