Chris defeated Gengar (Lv. 64), and Tyranitar gained 7,335 experience points.

After defeating Morty, the Gym Leader of the Ecruteak Gym, Chris received 40,000 Pokédollars as a prize.

Morty: "It seems my mastery of Clairvoyant Eyes isn't complete yet. Perhaps you are the trainer who can restore the essence of legends..."

Morty: "This is proof of your victory at the Ecruteak Gym—the Fog Badge. With it, your Surf, will grow stronger."

Morty: "Here is my research on the Shadow Ball move and my experiences in breeding Ghost-type Pokémon. Additionally, this booklet contains the secrets of cultivating Clairvoyant Eyes. I hope it is of help to you."

Morty: "I haven't shown my full strength yet. The power of Clairvoyant Eyes hasn't reached its peak. Just wait—at the Pokémon tournament, I will surely bring forth a Legendary Pokémon and claim victory!"

Chris observed Morty's dramatic declarations with mild amusement.

In the Pokémon world, dramatic flair was the norm.

Chris's attention turned to three specific items: the Fog Badge, Morty's notes, and the prospect of future battles.

He inspected the Fog Badge closely:

Fog Badge: Increases the power of Ghost-type moves for all Pokémon on the team by 10%. Also enhances the effects of the Move, Surf.

The badge's power increase was significant, as the Hoenn region lacked a dedicated Ghost-type Gym. This was Chris's first opportunity to strengthen Ghost-type moves. However, what intrigued him most was the enhancement to Surf.

Chris opened his Pokémon menu to check Greninja's current Surf move details:

Secret Move: Surf

Power: 130

Effect: Traps the target in a Whirlpool. (Additional effects require the Pokémon to know Whirlpool.)

"Only a 10-point power increase…" Chris muttered, comparing the new stats to the previous ones.

While modest, the enhancement was promising. Chris had theorized that badges from regions outside the origin region could potentially augment ordinary moves into Secret moves. The confirmation made him wonder: Could other regional badges also enhance Secret moves?

Even a small boost could stack with badges from multiple regions. If Surf's power reached 150 or even 160, it could surpass high-powered moves like Hyper Beam, Solar Beam, or even Dragon Ascent.

The realization sent Chris into a spiral of anticipation. A strengthened Surf might surpass any conventional move. In-game strategies could shift drastically as the competitive scene leaned toward "overpowered" builds.

Morty's additional gift—a skill CD for Shadow Ball and his Ghost Breeder experiences—came with a personal touch: a guide to mastering Clairvoyant Eyes.

"Clairvoyant Eyes!" Chris's excitement surged.

Morty's Clairvoyant Eyes had been formidable during battle, allowing him to see through evasive tactics like Snow Cloak and Double Team with ease. These eyes appeared to pierce illusions.

Chris eagerly saved his progress in the game, ensuring Morty's notes and the guide were preserved.

His attention first turned to the guide on Clairvoyant Eyes, leaving Ghost Breeder notes for later.

Clairvoyant Eyes: My Family's Secret Skill...

The insights promised an edge in future battles.

Chris settled in, ready to delve into the mysteries of Psychic mastery.

It took Chris more than half an hour to go through Morty's guide on Clairvoyant Eyes. Of that time, twenty-five minutes were spent on the backstory and origins of Clairvoyant Eyes, leaving only a small, practical section that was genuinely useful—a single recipe.

The instructions were simple:

The practitioner must boil the ingredients to prepare a liquid, soak a towel in it, and apply the towel to their eyes every morning and evening. This routine promises gradual vision enhancement.

With consistent practice, this cultivation could lead to remarkably strong eyesight, a phenomenon referred to as "super vision." A more dramatic translation of the term was "Clairvoyant."

Mega Vision would supposedly push human eyesight to an extraordinary level, rivaling or even surpassing creatures like falcons. With it, one could discern the intricate details of green leaves on a tree from kilometers away. The term "Clairvoyant Eyes" was more of an exaggeration than a literal description.

Morty's ability to counter Snow Cloak and Double Team was explained by the mechanics of Mega Vision. Snow Cloak merely relied on flying snow to obscure the body; however, this wasn't true invisibility. Under the scrutiny of Mega Vision, the snow's camouflage effect became ineffective, allowing it to be easily detected.

Similarly, Double Team created illusory shadows using light effects generated by high-speed movement. Mega Vision could expose these illusions, rendering the technique ineffective as long as the user got close enough to study it carefully. The one exception was Substitute, which involved a physical entity capable of causing damage. Mega Vision couldn't distinguish it from the original.

However, Morty's claim to "see things that others can't" seemed to stem more from his innate psychic abilities than from the effects of Mega Vision. In the Pokémon world, psychics were not uncommon. They often trained Psychic- or Ghost-type Pokémon, and Chris had occasionally encountered them during his travels. These battles usually ended with Chris leaving them thoroughly defeated.

"Even if I can't achieve Mega Vision in the short term," Chris mused, "just improving my eyesight would be worthwhile."

He reflected on the challenge of starting this training at his age. Clairvoyant Eyes required cultivation from a young age, typically from around ten to eighteen years old. Beginning at eighteen made it significantly harder to reach the full potential of Mega Vision, with most people struggling to achieve it even by the age of thirty.

Still, for Chris, whose screen-focused lifestyle was already taking a toll on his vision, even modest improvements would be a blessing.

Chris picked up the recipe to examine it closely:

Coba Berry Pelipper's spray of water Farfetch'd's green onions

Most of the materials were relatively common in the Pokémon world. The main challenge lay in acquiring Farfetch'd's green onions. Although Coba Berries were rare, they were not prohibitively expensive and could last for a week when used sparingly.

"Well," Chris muttered, "time to start gathering ingredients."
