Chapter 1: Pokémon Reset
The rain fell in steady sheets over Pallet Town, the cold droplets rolling down Ash Ketchum's face as he walked through the quiet streets. He barely noticed. His mind was elsewhere.
Pikachu, perched on his shoulder, gave a small shake, scattering tiny droplets. Ash smiled faintly and reached up, running a hand over his partner's fur.
"I was ten when I started in Kanto," he murmured to himself. "Eleven in Johto, twelve in Hoenn… all the way to eighteen. And now… I'm the World Champion."
The words felt strange. Heavy.
He had spent years chasing this dream, pushing himself and his Pokémon to their limits. And now that he was here, standing at the very top, something didn't feel right.
Had he done enough? Had he really helped his Pokémon reach their full potential?
Pikachu had always been by his side, unwavering in loyalty, but Ash couldn't shake the thought that maybe—just maybe—he had held some of his Pokémon back. Pokémon who had never evolved, Pokémon he had left behind, Pokémon that had so much more to give… if only he had done things differently.
He sighed, shaking his head. No use dwelling on it now.
"Better get home. The others are probably waiting for me."
As he picked up his pace, the rain intensified, the air growing thick with moisture. A strange wave of fatigue crept over him, slowing his steps. His vision blurred. His limbs felt heavy. A warm, almost comforting sensation wrapped around him.
Pikachu's worried voice barely reached him.
"Pika?"
His knees buckled. The world spun. And then—darkness.
The last thing he saw was a flicker of golden light before everything faded away.
A gentle breeze stirred Ash awake. The scent of grass filled his nostrils. The warmth of the sun brushed against his skin.
Slowly, he opened his eyes.
Bright blue sky. A vast, open field.
Where…?
Ash groaned, pushing himself upright. Something felt off.
Pikachu was gone.
His stomach twisted. He scrambled to his feet, frantically scanning his surroundings. This place—it was familiar. Too familiar. He turned toward the town ahead and spotted a sign.
Welcome to Pallet Town.
His breath caught. The houses looked newer, the roads smoother, untouched by time. And then, he caught sight of his reflection in a puddle.
A child stared back at him. Wide brown eyes. Messy black hair sticking out from under a too-big hat.
No.
No, no, no.
His hands trembled as he touched his face, his heart pounding against his ribs.
He was ten years old again.
"What… what's going on?" he whispered.
And then, a voice—not his own, deep and resonant—echoed in his mind.
Your journey begins anew, Ash Ketchum.
Ash looked around, his breaths coming in short gasps. "No… this can't be real." His hands clenched into fists as he turned in all directions. "Where am I?! Who sent me here?!"
A low, echoing laugh filled the air. It wasn't coming from around him—it was inside his head.
His eyes darted around, searching for the source. "Who are you?!"
Before he could react, his vision blurred. The world around him twisted, and suddenly, he was standing in an empty void. The sensation was eerily familiar, but something about it felt wrong.
And then, he saw him.
A figure emerged from the shadows—tall, with long silver hair streaked with black lines. His piercing emerald-green eyes seemed to glow in the darkness. His outfit was strange yet familiar, flowing like a robe, its patterns reminiscent of a Pokémon Ash knew all too well.
Ash instinctively stepped back, his aura flaring up. His gut told him to be on guard.
"Who are you?" he demanded.
The man smirked. "If I knew it was this easy to get inside your mind, I would've done it a long time ago." His tone was amused, almost mocking.
Ash's fists tightened. "I said, who are you?"
The man's smirk widened as he let out a chuckle. "Wow… you really don't recognize me, kid? You saved my home dimension in Sinnoh. I helped you and the others hold back Arceus when you went back in time. Ring a bell?"
Ash's eyes widened. His gaze darted over the man's outfit again, taking in the colors, the patterns… and suddenly, it clicked.
His voice came out as a whisper. "Giratina…?"
Floating midair, the figure crossed his legs and casually flipped a small, glowing cube in his hand. "Yup. That's me." His smirk turned sharp. "Satan, as some humans call me. Never liked that title, honestly. The so-called Church of Arceus really knows how to hold a grudge."
Ash narrowed his eyes, his thoughts racing. He might not have been the smartest guy in the world, but even he could put the pieces together. "You sent me back in time, didn't you?"
Giratina's glowing emerald eyes locked onto his. "Two reasons," he said simply. "One—I owed you a favor for saving my world." He grinned, tilting his head. "And two—because I thought it would be fun."
Ash's jaw clenched. "Fun? You think messing with my life is some kind of game?"
Giratina laughed, his voice echoing in the void. "Oh, come on, Ash. Don't act like you aren't curious." He flipped the glowing cube in his hand again. "Haven't you ever wondered what would happen if you did things differently? If you trained harder? If you didn't hold back your Pokémon?"
Ash stayed silent, his mind reeling. He had been thinking about that—just before everything went dark. But still…
"You had no right," Ash said, his voice low.
Giratina's smirk didn't fade. "And yet, here you are." He leaned forward, floating closer. "Face it, kid. You were lost. You reached the top, and suddenly, you didn't know what to do next. You wanted a second chance, even if you didn't say it out loud." His emerald eyes gleamed. "I just answered that wish."
Ash exhaled sharply. He hated to admit it, but Giratina wasn't wrong. He had doubts. He had regrets. But that didn't mean he wanted this… did he?
"…What's the catch?" he asked warily.
Giratina chuckled. "Smart question." He tossed the cube up, catching it effortlessly. "No catch. No strings. You get to redo your journey, start from zero—but with everything you already know." His grin widened. "And before you ask, no, you're not trapped in a dream, and no, I didn't erase the original timeline. Your other self is still out there, living his life as Champion."
Ash's eyes widened. "Wait… so I'm in a different timeline?"
Giratina winked. "Bingo. A fresh start. A clean slate. A world where you can do things your way." He leaned back, stretching as if this was all casual fun for him. "So, Ash Ketchum… what will you do?"
Ash's breath was steady now. He looked down at his hands—small, like they were back when he first started. This was real.
A second chance.
He took a deep breath, then looked Giratina dead in the eye.
"…I guess I better make the most of it."
Giratina's grin widened at Ash's resolve, and he chuckled softly. "Good choice, kid. I knew you'd say that."
Ash's heart raced, but his mind was focused. A second chance—a new beginning. His journey had already been long, but now, it was about to take a completely different turn. His eyes flicked over to the glowing cube still resting in Giratina's hand.
"Will I be alone this time?" Ash asked, glancing back at his reflection in the void, trying to steady his racing thoughts.
"Alone?" Giratina's chuckle echoed through the space, his voice dripping with amusement. "Hardly. You'll have your Pokémon, of course. Though you might want to pick a new starter this time. Get your hands dirty with some new challenges. Oh, and don't worry—Pikachu's not gone. He'll be with you when the time's right."
Ash frowned, still processing the gravity of the situation. "A new starter... but I already know what I'm capable of." His eyes flickered with a hint of both excitement and hesitation. "Will things be easier this time?"
"Ah," Giratina mused, floating effortlessly around Ash. "Easier? No. You'll still face trials, and you'll still have to learn. But this time, you won't be relying on the same old strategies. You'll have a chance to make different choices. To grow. To truly become the best, not just for the title, but for yourself and your Pokémon."
There was a long pause, as Ash's thoughts collided with the weight of his past. He thought of all the Pokémon he'd left behind, the ones he hadn't evolved, the ones he hadn't given enough attention. He thought of the bonds he had formed but never fully explored. This… this was his chance to fix that. To truly understand his Pokémon, to become a trainer not just through battle, but through real growth.
He nodded slowly, determined. "Alright. If this is really my chance to make things right… I won't waste it."
A flicker of golden light surrounded him, and suddenly, the void began to fade away, replaced by the familiar sights of Pallet Town.
As the world around him began to solidify, Giratina's voice echoed one last time, more serious than before.
"Remember, Ash… this is not just about winning. It's about understanding. Embrace it, and your journey will be more than just a race to the top. It will be your story to tell."
And with that, Ash Ketchum—ten years old again—found himself standing in the middle of Pallet Town, staring up at the bright sky. The sign welcoming him to the town was exactly the same as before, yet everything felt just a bit different. There was no mistaking the feeling that this time, the journey was about something more than just becoming the Pokémon Champion.
Pikachu's familiar cry broke the silence, and Ash turned to find his partner bounding toward him, his little feet kicking up droplets of water. Pikachu was back—his small, fluffy tail flicking happily.
"Ash! Pika-pi!" Pikachu cried, leaping onto Ash's shoulder. The electric mouse Pokémon gave his partner a loving nuzzle, happy to be reunited.
Ash laughed, lifting his hand to scratch Pikachu's ears. "I don't know how I ended up here, Pikachu, but this time… I'm not making the same mistakes."
Pikachu tilted his head in curiosity, but Ash's determination was clear. He wasn't just here to re-live his old journey. This time, he was going to shape the world—and his own future—differently.
With his resolve firm, Ash turned toward the road leading out of Pallet Town, the sun shining down brightly as if to mark the beginning of a new adventure.
"This is where it all begins, Pikachu," Ash said, his voice filled with new-found confidence. "Let's make it count."
And as the two of them walked into the unknown, Ash knew one thing for sure—his journey had just begun, and this time, he wasn't going to do it alone. Every step he took would be a step toward the future he truly desired.
Giratina then spoke in his mind. "Hey Pikachu is the only of your Pokèmon I allowed too keep his memory of you, of the Reset, anyway I have task for you".
Ash was back the void as time stopped. "Ok what task, this better not be your taking over the world".
Giratina smirked as he spoke chuckling. "Nope, I rather guard my world then define Arceus, so here go".
Ash's eyes narrowed as the familiar feeling of the void surrounded him once again. The sight of the world fading away, replaced by an endless expanse of nothingness, was something he never quite grew accustomed to. And hearing Giratina's voice in his mind was only adding to the strangeness of it all.
"You're not exactly making things easy, are you?" Ash muttered, crossing his arms as he looked around, expecting something more grandiose.
Giratina's chuckle echoed in the void, rich with amusement. "Oh, Ash Ketchum, I'm just giving you a chance to truly grow, to experience things you never did the first time around. Besides," he continued, his tone turning a bit more serious, "this isn't about getting everything handed to you. You've got to work for it."
Ash sighed. "Alright, let's hear the task."
Giratina's voice lowered, becoming more measured. "Here's what I'm going to lay out for you, Ash. A few things I want you to do while you're in this new timeline, and remember—it's your journey to shape."
Task 1: "Catch new Pokémon, the ones you want but never got a chance to. Not just any Pokémon, but the ones that truly resonate with you. You've always had a way with Pokémon, but I know there were others out there, ones that might have been perfect for you—if you had the chance. So go on and find them."
Ash blinked, the implications of this task striking him. He had always caught what was given to him, but there were a few Pokémon he'd always dreamed of having by his side. Maybe now he could finally have that perfect team.
Task 2: "Evolve every starter Pokémon you catch. Whether it's a Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, or one of your new ones, you'll need to evolve them all the way. It's not just about winning badges or battles—it's about growing them into the best they can be. If you really want to become the best, you'll need all your Pokémon to be at their fullest potential."
Ash nodded. He understood. His connection with his Pokémon had always been key, but evolution? That was something he had often overlooked. It was time to change that. Every Pokémon, even the ones he caught in this reset, would have a purpose.
Task 3: "Master your Aura." Giratina's voice softened, taking on a more contemplative tone. "You've always had a connection to Aura, but you've never fully unlocked its potential. It's a power within you, something deeper than just your Pokémon skills. Master it, and you'll understand yourself—and your Pokémon—on a whole new level."
Ash felt a spark of excitement. Aura had always fascinated him, especially after meeting Lucario and understanding a bit of its power. To truly master it… That would be something.
Task 4: "Go on a date with Serena when you visit Kalos." Giratina's smirk was evident even through his words. "You've got a bond there, Ash. Don't let it slip by like last time. There's more to your journey than just Pokémon battles. You deserve a personal life, and it's about time you made that happen."
Ash's face flushed with surprise, and his heart skipped a beat. Serena… a date? He had always admired her, and their journey together had meant a lot, but he'd never quite explored the possibility of something more. Now, it seemed like Giratina was giving him a nudge he needed.
Task 5: "Win all your badges properly." Giratina's voice hardened slightly, a note of seriousness creeping in. "No more shortcuts. No more rushing through just to be the Champion. Take your time, earn each badge as if your life depended on it. Prove you've earned them—not just for the title, but for the Pokémon and people you'll meet along the way."
Ash's brow furrowed. Giratina was right. It was never just about the badges. It was about the journey, the growth, and the lessons along the way. He'd learned that the first time around, but now he had the chance to prove it—again.
"And one more thing," Giratina added, his voice turning cryptic. "Butterfly effects can happen. Your actions will change things, even in ways you don't understand yet. So be careful. What you do here will have consequences."
Ash stood silent for a moment, taking in everything Giratina had said. He could feel the weight of the tasks ahead of him, each one a challenge to both his skills and his heart. But it was exactly what he needed.
He turned toward the direction of Pallet Town, Pikachu hopping back onto his shoulder as if waiting for his next command.
"You've got it, Giratina. I'll do it. No regrets."
The void began to fade, and the warmth of the real world surrounded him once again. The air smelled fresh, and the grass beneath his feet was soft. It was the beginning of a new journey. One filled with challenges, new Pokémon, and perhaps, new relationships.
As Ash walked toward the Pokémon Center, a renewed sense of purpose filled him. His tasks weren't just about becoming stronger—they were about becoming the best version of himself. And with Pikachu by his side, he knew he could face anything.
"This time," Ash murmured to himself, a grin spreading across his face, "I'll make it count."
