NOVEL NEXT Chapter 6: Let’s Go Char!
The once Navy blue color of the lab is now black as the sky blue lining now lights the halls "Guess I'll sleep in the park." She fixes her new black and red jacket and begins to leave.
"Uhm, we have room in the library. No one should be in there until late morning, so…" The short haired blonde Ava bumped into earlier makes her presence known while wearing a Togekiss one piece. She hands Ava a key card "Just don't bring "this" up in the future." The blonde motions to her one piece as she looks down with embarrassment
Ava turns around and makes her way to the door "Cool, see ya…" she stops. "Where is it?"
The blonde lets out a pft "Follow me." leading her up a set of stairs and to two doors. "First door to your right."
"Thanks. Goodnight uhm..hmm, we haven't done the name thing." She looks down and hums louder. "I'm Ava!" Ava lean towards the blonde with an extended hand
She snickers, "I'm Melia." She shakes Ava's hand and turns to leave "Goodnight!"
She's nice, a mix of childish and mature. I feel like there's a comparison to be made there, don't know to what. Ava tapes the card against a scanner before taking to a corner and balling up for the night.
"..hy…hey…Wake up!" A young male's voice pierces through Ava's unconscious mind
She purrs "give me..hrm.. Two minutes"
"Give her a break Ren, She had nowhere to sleep." Melia adds as Ava sits up behind the black haired boy
"Melia, you can't invite strangers to sleep in your house just because they say they have nowhere to stay." Ren's voice was rather whimsical
"My door has two locks." Melia adds with slight annoyance
Ava walks right up to Malia "Thanks for the key card." She hands it over. "If you think I'm a bad person -" Tosses her Pokéball out "-then check it for yourself." This is, trainer law.
Ren smirks with his grey eyes gleaming; and throws out his Pokéball "Alright! Froakie!"
Froakie looks at Char, both determined to win. "Beginners' luck runs out quick!" The two say to each other. "Char! scratch 'em!"
The little Eevee B-lines for his opponent and scratches them as they attempt to dodge. "Froakie! Pound now!" The Froakie clasps its glowing hands together and pounds Char's back.
"Double down, Char!" Char cries, jumping onto a bookcase closing the distance between them and the Froakie. Char vaults off the case and slashes at Froakie.
"Froakie dodge and growl!" The Froakie stares Char in the eyes and at the last moment; leaps back and growls.
"Tackle!" Ava blurts out quickly yet quietly.
"Dodg-!" Ren's words are cut short as he sees Char already landing their tackle, the force seemingly enough to end the match. The Froakie lies motionless on the floor, unconscious.
"Yes!" Ava's arms shoot up with a bit of force, but her giddy face reliefs any notion of it.
"You won? Well that is the first time I ever used my own Pokémon, maybe I should start training them." Ren says disappointedly; scratching his neck.
"Back peddling already?" 1Ava mumbles looking at Melia. "You got any errands to do today?"
Melia turns around; her bright gray eyes exude innocence, "No but I was planning to go to Golden Wood Forest after checking on something."
"Mind if I tag along? I don't really have any money so beating some trainers might help." Ava points her thumb over her own shoulder
"Oh sure, you should probably grab your trainer card from my dad though. Amanda asked me to get it while you were asleep." Melia says looking at Ren giving Ava 87 Pokédollars.
"I'd ask to come with but I'm still tired from collecting data on the cave yesterday." Ren says with his arms hanging.
Ren starts to leave with Melia following right behind. "Ask my dad for a spare umbrella as well, it rains spontaneously sometimes."
"Yeah sure!" Ava shouts behind them before putting on her black and red jacket.
Ava opens the door leading to Prof.Jenner's lab to see him eating a cereal mix of marshmallow and raisin corn flakes. "Omf huy.. Ava?" he questions with a stuffed mouth.
"Yeah, I just need my card." The young girl reaches for her card apprehensively. He's evil! No sane person mixes Chewy with fuckin CRUNCH?!
"Isn't that Amanda's jacket?" Professor Jenner looks in his desk. Ava looks at him for a second before looking around the lab. "I put it in one of these drawers." he mumbles
'I hope Amanda doesn't ask for her jacket back, this shit is compy.' The Professor gets up from his desk looking shocked at the card. "Yeah, she said I could keep it for last night; ya know, nowhere to sleep."
"A female Pokébreeder?" He hands Ava her card, who of which wears a warry smile as they take it.
I'm marked as female because intersex people aren't a thing apparently. Her eyes go wide as she looks off to the side "Yeeaaaah! totally. I don't need anything to take the public transport right?"
"Apart from money? No.." Jenner visibly contemplates something as the words leave his mouth. "Could you look after my daughter while she's out today? She's good with people but I'm scared some unusual Pokémon might attack her after reviewing the latest cave analytics."
"to grow up and enjoy the world"… I guess that goes double for fathers. I was already going with her anyway. Ava sighs "Sure."
Jenner gives her some PokeDollars "Thank you, this should cover your transport."
Ava steps through the door on her way out. 'There's no way a train ride is THIS expensive. Now my guts stirrin'. I should swing by the park, get a grass type so I can counter water types in the future. I actually thought of a good idea. Is this what happens when you lose your V card? Shit's cracked!
Ava turns the corner coming from "The Berry Emporium". "Wait WAIT! THE BEST PART OF THE SONG IS ABOUT TO COME ON!" A young female shouts from inside a purple house
"Veronica?! How many times do I have to tell you to not blast music like this?!" An older voice shouts back in fairly calm manner
"Ugh…. Mom?! Can't you wait three seconds? The beat is about to drop!" Veronica tells her mom in a rather angsty tone.
"NO.-"
"Rip Veronica." Ava put her head down
"-I've had it. Your incessant annoyance is too much for me! The neighbors have been complaining, and the police have warned us twice TODAY!"
"WHO CARES? EAT THE POLICE!"
"Err?"
"I SAID ENOUGH!"
"Wait! WAIT! STOP! W-why are you looking at me like that? Cool it!" Veronica's frantic voice booms to the street
"Veronica, I said I've had ENOUGH!" Veronica's mother throw's something
"Nooo!" Veronica shortly follows. Ava goes to the coughing purple haired devil " *cough* It looks like that wretched wench defiled things *cough* once again. cough cough She's gone too far this time.. I have been downed, fatally. This is. The end for cough me. I need you to.. do me a… favor. The Berry Emporium has Pecha Berries that are so… sweet. *cough wheeeeze cough* Please let me have one. Last. bite! *cough!*"
"S-sure!" Ava says with a pure smile
'Well that's a bold faced lie' Ava remembers what the cashier told her
The cashier laughs "Ah! Venam? Got you too huh, so the wasabi wasn't enough huh? That little shit's getting her due with this one." The cashier leaves for a second before bringing out what's definitely NOT a Pecha Berry. "Listen if you do dealings with her in the future note that she will take advantage of good naturedness." They hand the Berry over to Ava who accepts it with question. "It's on the house."
Ava stands in front of Veronica's house with the berry in hand. "I-I have your berry." She says as if she was holding tears
"Th-that.. Must be A fresh Pecha Berry from the Berry Emporium! So delectable, so tasty… So exquisite. The taste.. is unimaginably Delicious.." Ava rests Veronica's head on her lap, then looks down at her with sorrow.
Damn at least keep up your acting. Ava feeds the berry with her wet hands and as Veronica takes the last bite she covers her mouth. 'The dearest shopkeeper went through so much work for the SPECIAL Berry. "It'd be a shame for you to spit it out."
Veronica squirms as her tongue rapidly breathes into The woman's hand, almost warming it "MMM!!"
"Yes! Suffer!" Ava says jokingly. Once the victim of joint effort stops convulsing Ava removes her hand. "You good Slime?" Ava looks at the dazed victim.
"......" Venam starts laughing. "I can't believe I fell for that! You and the shopkeeper worked together-!" She laughs mid sentence "Y'all got me good! Maybe I should have learned from the wasabi one!" Venam chuckles as she gets up, with weakened legs. "Man I'm fuckin idiot! This one just tastes like shit!" She pats Ava's back roughly "Anyway, you probably heard my mom call me Veronica back there, but I would politely ask you to call me Venam." She tosses her hand up "Veronica's such a prissy name. I hate it. I don't wanna be called it. Venam is tough, and also scary."
"You're a poison type trainer aren't you?" Ava interrupts with a deadpan expression
"Hey! I'm not Any trainer, I'm the Gym Leader of East Gearen City. What about you? What's your name?"
"Ava. The wandering Trainer." I was going to say homeless but I can rough it out in the library, but when they start asking for rent…
"Ava huh? I like it. Hey, you should come meet my friends. They're cool peeps. We're going to meet at the abandoned sewers." She points towards an empty street. "You better show up or I'll have you buy me more food and I assure you that your wallet is going to be very pissed at you." she departs with this threat
"I Wouldn't mind taking you out!" Ava shouts to her leaving back. Guess I could look for Pokémon later. Ava walks towards the street seeing Ren turn the corner ahead; once she catches up to him she finds Venam laying face first on the tiled sidewalk.
"Venam, we've been friends for how long? This doesn't work on me, I'm stronger now… but here." Ren gives her A berry, it's not known what berry however.
"Yes! I feel my wound healing!"
"I can't keep endorsing this. Veronica." Ren's face was as sly as a fox
"DON'T CALL ME VERONICA." Venam detest with a pointed figure. "You don't know how to treat a girl."
"You're a girl? I honestly thought you were just a feral Primeape with no direction." The boy subtly nods his head.
Venam notices Ava; who's smiling away. "Oh nice going Ren. You've embarrassed me in front of my new friend! Ava, can you believe this guy?" Upon hearing Ava's name Ren turns around
"Oh! She's the one you were talking about?"
"Uh, yeah. They blasted me away with an awful tasting Berry. So of course we'd become friends! Anyway, it sounds like you two already met so I'm just gonna do my thing." She opens the sewers door "Presto. Now Let'sa Go!" she says with an accent
"She didn't learn from the wasabi?" Ren sighs. "You know what? Don't think about it. Melia's "thing" she had to take care of is down here, so it looks like you get to enjoy a bit more of the city today." Ren goes into the sewers with Ava right behind him.
"Why the sewers?" Ava covers her lower face with the hood of Amanda's Jacket. 'She might not take this back.'
"Well despite this being the ex-sewers, the city put the electricity plant down here. But after it mysteriously lost its power. Melia decided she wanted to fix it herself. Our dearest Professor is good with Machines,so he Probably taught her a good few things." Ren sighs, exasperated
"I feel you, but I guess we shouldn't keep them waiting."
"Despite its name the "Abandoned Sewers" is very active with new trainers, sometimes, even I need a lil help getting through here. Don't worry though, I'll carry us through .They'll be quivering in fear in no time!" His dim gray eye's beam confidence
Ava just looks at him then at a weirdly glowing Alolan Rattata… "GO POKEBALL!" She chucks the Pokeball 1,2…3… The ball chimes.
"That worked?" The two say in unison
"Let's go.." Ren requests. "By the way, I'm not that conceited."
"I know, same here." Ava says as the two make their way down a set of stairs
The two walk up to a door in an active discussion "I'm just saying You didn't have to knock out Noibat!" Ava's voice was agitated and her wide eyes showed it
"Noibats are weak, why did you want one?" Ren ask fairly annoyed himself
"Noibat evolves into Noivern. Both are dragon types!"
"Weak dragon types that you could easily replace? Especially since it won't evolve until you get pretty far into the league." Ren says more annoyed
"I see why you two took your sweet ass time! Fuckin love birds."
"Venam don't!" They say in unison
"Tch, whatever. This is where we're supposed to be. Come on!"
"We can argue and it won't change how fast we walk! Don't be so impatient!" Ava comments as Venam goes into the door.
As the two walk up to the door it shuts in their face, as if it was timed to do so. "Oh, you've gotta be kidding me." Slips out of Ren's agitated lips
"Talk about timing." Ava adds
"Look like they're locked in and us out" The boy sighs " The generator should be nearby, Let's just reset it ourselves." Ren leads Ava to the room; which was not too far away. "Melia told me how to do it once. 3+1+2 and then the power should reset, but I don't think you can direct the power into somewhere else..Hm?"
Ava darts her eye's around the room. "Got it." Ava goes to the labeled generators in the order of 3,1, then last of all 2. "As a math question, yes difficult to figure out, but you think of it in steps. Much easier."
"Arceus, it was so simple too."
"Pretty sure Venam would make the same mistake too."
"Let's go check on them." Ren says, this time following Ava to their destination.
As they come in Venam is face down on the floor again. "Please. The wretched old hag-!" Ava picks her off the floor with a disappointed look,
"This is the sewers, it's filthy. Stop." Ava stares into her eyes
Ren chuckles from the side "It's not like Melia would've fallen for that anyway."
"Uhm.. Y-yeah. YOU CAN PUT ME DOWN NOW!" Venam was flustered
"I'm trying to concentrate! Please keep it quiet!" Melia asks, not breaking contact on the task in front of her
"Alright, alright… I guess I'm done with the berry bit.. For now." The purple haired child slyly smirks. "But I'm sooo bored~. You said you'd be done with this Hourss agooo."
Melia holds in and *urk * sound "I know, I'm sorry. I just can't really find the issue with this thing." Her voice has a mixture of self doubt and a sprinkle of genuine regret. "But I am trying my best to get this done, promise!" Her tone switches to that of sunshine and rainbows despite the melancholy theme of the sewer; as she turns around and greets everyone with a pleading smile. "I didn't know everyone already got here. I was so engrossed in my work that I guess I zoned out my surroundings. Oh I wasn't expecting to see you here Ava."
"Did everyone meet Ava before me?" Venam looks at Ava
"I'm such a magnet." Ava holds her hand to her chest elegantly.
"Back on the generator issue.. What Exactly is the problem?" Ava shoots her head to Ren
"That's the issue, as of now it shows no faults." She points to the door which is closing and opening rapidly. "But as you can see, this thing is still going haywire. Though, it is quite old." Melia walks up to the generator. "Maybe this old fella's just falling over. you've served us well." She mumbles the last bit, placing her hand on it.
"Welp, we should check the result of our experiment!" Venam shoots the mood Melia was aiming for
"Uh, about that… When I got here the garbage we left here weren't here.So our experiment to see if garbage bags could actually turn into Garbodor failed."
'or someone with ocd took your garbage out into a trash can. The possibilities are endless.' Ava and Ren see something pop out the top of the generator.
"Something's coming out of the top of the generator!" Ren, Melia, and Ava say in unison. Ava and Ren then look at each other, almost swearing the other is doing it on purpose.
A Gabodor fully pops out the top of the old generator. "It's different colors." Melia states with mild shock and amazement. Two Trubish pop out from beside the generator.
Venam looks at them with misbelief. "There's three! M-Melia , There's three of them! I think… I think our experiment worked!"
"No way…." the other three says, before Garbodor jumps forward. Ava and Ren take out their pokeballs as Melia remarks "This thing doesn't look very f-friendly!"
"We got this! Ava states with pure confidence as she steps in front of Melia.
"A-Alright!"
"This pokémon's ruthless… Great!" Ava sends out char with a devious smile 'Char and my Rattata have leveled up a bit, Now let's see what you can do! Ava looks back to Melia and Venam "You two should get to the door! You're in the splash zone." I've wanted to say that for so long!
"Vee!" Char growls at his threatening enemy
"Char! scratch'em!"
Char zigs out of the way of the acid thrown its way and zags towards the Garbage Menace landing an effective scratch. Growlithe ,who was hit by the acid, howls as its battle cry.
"Growlithe use ember!"
The small Growlithe is to not be out done as it also lands another effective hit.
'A quick attack might do it.' "Char, don't let it see you coming!" The Eevee, much like earlier this morning, had already made contact with its target; even making it stumble and perhaps a bit dazed, but it quickly recovers as its body exudes a red mist for a short while
"Growlithe! Dodg-!" Before Ren could finish his sentence The Menace had already spit and hit acid on his Growlithe. "Why just Growlithe?" Ren mumbles
"Threats recognize threats." Ava replies. "Char shred'em!
"No, it knows to go for the weak!" Venam says from the sidelines.
Ren looks at Venam "Come on Froakie! Use Bubble!"
Char takes the acid head on landing another powerful blow and leaping off of their target to gain distance, Froakie stands in the back releasing a fast line of bubbles each pop with quite some force as they hit The Garbage Menace.
"Hit'em!" Ava blurts out again, The Eevee already hitting its target yet again.
"What level is Char?" Ren asks with genuine confusion.
"Lvl 18." Ava replies smugly.
"... Froakie use Bubble!" Ren says surprised. The Froakie shoots another line of bubbles, but one of the Trubish from the side intercepts. The trubbish attempts to steal from the Froakie, but ends up empty handed with the Froakie fainted, "Cacnea!" Ren releases his final pokémon.
"Char, just focus on cutting the big guy!" Char's nail -which has never stopped glowing- glows brighter. Big guy don't got much in the tank. "Just two more rounds!" Char charges their enemy, who spits another wad of acid at them, they jump over and cut them from head to toe causing them to back out of the fight. "Yes! Come on back Char!" Ava tosses Char's Pokeball out for him and sends out the rattata she caught earlier.
The Menace bumps into the generator trying to back away from the threat.."Got you!" Venam says catching a Trubbish. "It's just that easy." She remarks
"... Come back Cacnea." Ren says, partially surprised. "As for the other two… Please don't attack people like that. If you just want people's attention then you should be a little nicer." Ren says looking at the defeated combatants
The Garbodor (The Garbage Menace) makes a low pitiful sound and leaves. Melia walks back up to the generator then looks at Ava then directs her line of sight to look at both of them. "Thank you two for helping out. That Garbodor totally took me by surprise.."
"You two were awesome! That powerful combination was just so…SO… AMAZING " Melia, Ren, and Ava Chuckle
"Yeah, and even if you guys weren't strong enough, we always had this to rely on!" Melia brings out a gray, fairly dusty suitcase
Venam's violet eyes glimmer "Wow!" The glimmer quickly sees its way out ".. What is it?"
"It's a suitcase Venam, you've seen one of them before. My dad gave it to me before I left, I opened it earlier and it had potions and stuff like that. My dad did give me a secret code to enter if things really hit the fan. If things got too dangerous I would just enter that code. Ta-daa, safe from harm, at least I think we would be."
My gut's really stirrin now, but I do also feel horny. Damn it last night should've helped! Ava starts to make her way to the exit, but Melia sprints and gets to the door before her.
"..I think I'll head to Gearen Park and add some picture's for my album, see you guys later!" Melia sprints ahead of Ava and leaves first.
"Ava! I challenge you to visit my Gym!" Venam declares enthusiastically
"Look at you, Ava. Getting all the opportunities." Ren genuinely jokes.
"Yes! That strength you and Char showed against Garbodor really got me in the mood." Her pumped up voice makes it clear what type of mood it was. "Ever since Ren, there haven't been any good trainers, So don't waste my damn time! Alright!?" Venam and Ren leave Ava by her lonesome in the sewers.
