Pokémon: Newborn Ash Ketchum – Starting from Hoenn region

Chapter 2: Chapter 2: The Viridian Forest Quest & The Return of Pidgeot

The Viridian Forest is vast. Even when my past self traveled through Kanto, I never ventured deep into its core.

It was here that I caught my first two Pokémon—Caterpie and Pidgeotto.

Caterpie eventually evolved into Butterfree and left me to be with its true love, a pink Butterfree. Meanwhile, Pidgeotto evolved into Pidgeot and stayed behind in Viridian Forest to protect the other bird Pokémon, promising to return one day. Now, it's time to fulfill that promise and bring Pidgeot back!

The forest was thick with towering trees, their dense leaves casting dark shadows over the ground. This was a paradise for Bug- and Flying-type Pokémon.

I took a deep breath, enjoying the sight of the lush forest. "Alright, Pikachu! Let's do this together!"

"Pika~!" Pikachu patted its chest, ready for action.

As we traveled through the forest, we encountered and battled many Pokémon, earning experience and points. I used some of those points to exchange for energy cubes, which I shared with the Pokémon we defeated before continuing our journey.

Suddenly, Pikachu tapped my shoulder and pointed to the side. "Pika pika~!"

I turned in the direction Pikachu indicated and saw a brown fox-like Pokémon watching us.

"That's... an Eevee?! Amazing!" I exclaimed. It's rare to find an Eevee in the wild, considering it has eight different possible evolutions!

[Eevee]

Type: Normal

Gender: Male

Ability: Adaptability (Boosts the power of same-type moves)

Strength: Mid-level (Normal)

Moves: Quick Attack, Sand Attack, Swift, Shadow Ball, Dig, Double Kick

I was thrilled. An Eevee that knew Shadow Ball and Double Kick? This one had incredible potential!

Eevee lifted its head proudly, its stance confident and unyielding. It took a few cautious steps forward, sizing us up.

"Alright, Pikachu! Let's catch it!"

"Pika~!" Pikachu's red cheeks sparked with electricity, eager for battle.

Sensing Pikachu's power, Eevee quickly used Dig and disappeared underground.

"Not good! Pikachu, use Thunderbolt—now!"

"Pika... CHUUU!" Pikachu unleashed a powerful jolt of electricity, but it was just a second too late.

I kept my eyes on the ground, searching for movement.

"There! Pikachu, use Quick Attack and follow up with a Thunderbolt!"

"Pika pika~!"

Boom! The impact was direct! Pikachu knocked Eevee down, leaving it weakened.

"Now! Poké Ball, go!"

I flipped my cap backward and threw the Poké Ball at Eevee. A red light flashed as the Poké Ball absorbed it, shaking once... twice... three times—then clicked shut.

"Yes! I caught Eevee!" I cheered.

"Pikapi~!" Pikachu ran over, picked up the Poké Ball, and handed it to me.

"Thanks, buddy!" I smiled, patting Pikachu on the head.

I released Eevee from its Poké Ball and fed it an energy cube to help it recover.

Eevee sniffed the cube cautiously before happily munching on it. Once finished, it jumped into my arms, rubbing its head against me affectionately.

"Alright, Eevee, welcome to the team!"

With a new teammate by our side, Pikachu and I continued toward our real goal—the Pidgeot Clan's territory.

One Hour Later...

The deeper we went, the more the forest began to change. The thick canopy thinned, allowing more sunlight to pour through.

There were fewer Bug-types here, and in their place, flocks of Pidgey and Pidgeotto soared overhead. This was definitely Pidgeot's domain.

I knew if we went any further, we'd be seen as intruders. So I took a deep breath and shouted:

"Pidgeot! I've come to take you home!"

"Pikapi~!" Pikachu echoed.

For a moment, there was silence. Then, I heard the sound of powerful wings slicing through the air.

I looked up.

Two large eagles were descending from the sky, their forms backlit by the sun. The one in front...

Pidgeot.

It had the aura of a true ruler.

"Pidgeot! It's me! I'm sorry I took so long!"

"Pikapi~!" Pikachu added.

Pidgeot let out a mighty cry before swooping down and wrapping me and Pikachu in its wings.

[Pidgeot]

Type: Normal/Flying

Ability: Keen Eye (Prevents accuracy loss and ignores the target's evasive boosts)

Strength: Gym Leader Level

Moves: Hurricane, Brave Bird, Roost, Steel Wing, Hyper Beam

I smiled. "Pidgeot, are you ready to travel with me again?"

Pidgeot didn't answer with words—it answered with a battle stance.

I understood immediately.

"Pikachu, let's do this!"

"Pika!" Pikachu's eyes sparkled with determination.

Pidgeot flapped its wings, sending blades of air toward Pikachu—Air Slash!

"Dodge and use Thunderbolt!"

"Pika...CHUUU!" Pikachu's electricity shot forward, but Pidgeot was too fast, evading with ease before countering with Brave Bird!

"Thunderbolt again!"

Another explosion filled the battlefield with smoke.

But then, Pidgeot emerged—still soaring, still strong!

I grinned. This was the strength of my old friend!

"Pikachu, use Volt Tackle!"

Pikachu's body surged with golden electricity as it dashed forward, colliding with Pidgeot's Brave Bird attack.

BOOM!

The impact sent shockwaves through the air. When the dust settled, Pikachu was riding on Pidgeot's back, waving at me.

"Pikapi~!"

Pidgeot landed in front of me, rubbing its head against my chest.

I pulled out its Poké Ball. "Welcome back, Pidgeot."

With a final nod, Pidgeot tapped its beak against the Poké Ball, returning to my team.

The other Pidgey and Pidgeotto chirped their farewells. I left behind some energy cubes for another Pidgeot to take over as their new protector.

With that, I turned to Pikachu. "Mission accomplished. Let's go."

"Pikapi~!"

As we walked away, the setting sun cast our long shadows over the forest.

Back at Professor Oak's Lab...

That night, my mom, Professor Oak, and Tracey held a farewell party for me. My Pokémon celebrated together, filling the lab's backyard with energy and excitement.

Tomorrow, a new adventure begins.

To be continued...
