Chapter 7: Chapter 7 - Pokédex
Third person POV
After that, Lucas and Dawn, as well as Dawn's team ran to Rico and congratulated him for being Riolu's Trainer.
"Thanks, Dawn," Rico happily replied back, "thanks, dad."
And then, suddenly, someone was commenting on Rico's ability, "That's amazing, kid."
Rico, Dawn, and Lucas then turned around, only to see a man, dressed in a blue t-shirt, lab coat, and black pants with pockets, coming to the group.
"Huh? Excuse me?" Rico asked back upon noticing the man.
That man, a Pokémon professor named Campillo Nester, then responded to them as he applauded them, "That was the most outstanding Pokémon battle I saw in my life."
"Really? I only become Riolu's Trainer."
"Exactly, but not without a Pokédex."
"A Pokédex?"
"Follow me to my lab in Kawayan City." He then turned around and walked away.
Lucas then lifted up Rico's bike and loaded it into his car's backload, and Dawn agreed to come with them. Once Rico, Dawn, and her team hopped in the car, Lucas hopped in the driver's seat and started the engine. Once the group left, a boy with a Pichu holding a ukulele was hiding behind a wall of a house. Having seen the battle with the Pokémon Pinchers, that boy thought in his mind, "That kid was cool."
Later at Kawayan City's Pokémon lab, Campillo introduced himself to Rico, Dawn, and Lucas, "I'm Campillo Nester. I am a Pokémon Professor of this region."
"Nice to meet you," Rico responded back positively. "I'm Rico Cruz."
"I'm Dawn," Dawn introduced herself to Campillo, "I'm from the Sinnoh region."
"And I'm Lucas Cruz," Lucas introduced himself to Campillo as well, "I'm Rico's father."
This was followed by a short silence.
"I would like to say that your battle with those Pokémon thieves was an outstanding one," Campillo said to Rico breaking the silence.
"Really?" Rico responded back in surprise.
"Yes, and your Pokémon is a rare one."
"Yeah, I know that."
"And how did you command Riolu to do these moves?"
"I read a book about Pokémon moves, and I memorized a few of them."
"Ah, I see then. Well, the more your Pokémon grew in strength and power, the harder the new moves will be."
Puzzled by it, Rico replied back, "What do you mean by that?"
"What I mean is that Pokémon may have difficulties learning those moves."
Now getting what Campillo had said, Rico responded back, "Oh, I see then. Okay, professor, I'll start with the easy ones."
"Good, Cruz."
This follows with another short silence."
"So, professor, if you are a Pokémon Professor, do you love studying about Pokémon?" Rico asked breaking the silence.
"Oh, why, yes, I do," answered Campillo back positively as he readjusts his glasses. "I also keep in touch with other professors of other regions like Unova and Kanto."
"Oh, I see. Well, I even displayed my battle style."
"That's amazing, Cruz, that will be your starting point."
"Um, what do you mean by that?"
"Well, you just became a Pokémon Trainer, right?"
"Right."
"Then not yet officially without a Pokédex."
"A Pokédex?"
"I'll show it to you."
He then stood up and walked towards the table nearby, grabbed a Pokédex, and gave it to Rico.
"This is what we call a Pokédex, a Pokémon encyclopedia invented by a Pokémon professor named Samuel Oak of the Kanto region," Campillo explained to Rico about the Pokédex.
"Oh, I see then," Rico responded back as he understood what his professor just explained.
"And now, I'm giving it to you."
Accepting the offer, Rico gratefully and politely thanked him, "Thank you so much."
"You're welcome," Campillo responded back.
Being happy about this, Lucas said to Rico, "Well, this is great. Well, let's go home. Your mom is worried about you."
Looking at his father, Rico responded back, "Oh, she is? Okay, let's go home then." Then to Dawn, "Say, Dawn, do you want to come to our house this lunchtime?"
Thinking about this, Dawn answered back, "Sure, I would like to."
"Great! Let's go home then."
He, Dawn, and Lucas, as well as Dawn's team, then left the lab and into Lucas' car, before driving away as Campillo wavered them goodbye. Another important milestone had been set.
