Chapter 27: Chapter 27 - Evacuation!
The next morning, it's getting worse. The storm had managed to make its landfall in Kawayan City. The rain and winds are insane, making walking outside nearly impossible. And then, the thunder rolls awakened Rico, Ben, and their Pokémon, who then suddenly woken up from their sleep.
"What was that?" Ben asked Rico while being frightened.
"It's alright," answered Rico positively and calmly. "It's just a thunder."
"How come you're so calm after being scared?"
"Me and my parents are used to this. It's natural to hear thunder."
"Oh, okay then."
After that, all of them went downstairs to eat breakfast. At the first floor of the house, Rosario was cooking breakfast while Lucas was watching a video in his smartphone. The TV was on, showing the latest news. Arriving at the dining room, Rico and Ben greeted, "Good morning."
Upon noticing them, Lucas responded back, "Good morning, kids."
"Good morning," Rosario added as well while cooking. "Breakfast is almost done."
With that, Rico and Ben sat down and waited for their breakfast to be done. And then, they looked at the TV.
The winds are blowing away debris and parts of roofing materials. The temperature inside of homes are cold enough that air-conditioning was rare. Rains are intense.
And then, the news reporter said, "Everyone, evacuate to the nearest-" The news reporter's sentence was cut off when the power was out across the city regardless of location or class.
"Oh no!" Ben responded to this. "The power was out!"
"Don't worry." Lucas calmed him down with a smile. "We got this." He then get an emergency, solar-powered light from the kitchen cabinet and turned it on. Rosario then turned off the stove and opened one of the drawers, getting a candle and a match box. She then placed the candle in an old cup and light up a match, lighting the candle.
Amazed by this, Ben commented, "Wow, you guys are used to this, right?"
"Yeah," Rico responded back with a smile.
Shortly thereafter, they all eat breakfast. The meal was rice porridge with chocolate and condensed milk drizzling. Ben seemed to be confused by its brown appearance, asking, "What is this?"
"Oh, this is rice porridge with choclolate and codn condensed milk drizzling," Rico explained explained in response. He then ate a spoonful of it, tasting its bitter-sweet flavor.
"So you guys ate chocolate with rice?"
"Yes, dear," Rosario positively a
responded back.
"I see. I'll try."
He then carefully took one spoonful of the hot meal and put it into his mouth, tasting its flavor and feeling its texture. He then felt that it was tasty to him and said to the Cruz family, "Woah, this is so tasty!"
"We're glad you liked it," Lucas replied to him.
After breakfast, Rosario was washing the dishes while Lucas was upstairs getting their important documents and stored them in a waterproof bag, for safekeeping. Rico, Ben, and their team are at Rico's bedroom packing up their bags so they would go to the evacuation center, which was a couple of blocks away.
"So you guys are used to move to a safer area?" Ben asked a question while packing up.
"Yes, every time there is a storm coming," replied Rico back.
"I see."
By 8 in the morning, all of them are done packing up to go to the evacuation center. The clothes are stored in the roller bags while essential items like canned food and Pokémon food are stored in small plastic boxes. Their important documents are stored in a waterproof bag. They are now ready to go to the evacuation center. They come out of the house, and Lucas locked the door immediately. After that, they exited via the front gate and Lucas once again locked it. They then all walked down the street towards the nearest evacuation center carefully but a bit fast as the strong winds are attempting to push them.
Later, at an intersection in the city, they meeting up with Kolen, his family, and their Pokémon, who were also heading to the nearest evacuation center.
"Kolen!" Rico calling time.
"Rico!" Kolen responded back. "Are you going to the evacuation center too?"
"Yes!" Rosario answered back.
They then all resumed their trek to the evacuation center, which was located far away up on a hill at the north side of the city.
Later at the evacuation center, they were assistance by the city officials and gave them a spot in the huge building, which was packed with residents and their belongings and Pokémon. Rico and his group then went to the spot the city official directed and rested up, giving out a deep sigh from walking too long and far.
The evacuation center was one of the three huge buildings built by the government to be used for emergency. The evacuation had pillars and walls made of concrete and the flooring was tiled. It has several emergency lighting to be used at night.
Later, as the storm was raging on, Rico was drinking mineral water when a guy with his Pokémon and a sword in his back was next to him. Upon noticing the sword, Rico asked himself in his mind, "Who's that guy? Is he a Pokémon Trainer too?"
And then, he suddenly remembered the Starlys who are still stuck at that shed at a beach village that is actually vulnerable to floods. He then stood up and responded, "Oh, no! I forgot! The Starlys are stuck at that shed. I must rescue them!" This caught the attention of everyone around him, and Rico immediately went up to a birdkeeper and asked him if he can let him burrow one of his empty birdcages.
"Okay?" the birdkeeper responded back as he lends one of his empty birdcages. "Why?"
"I have to save those Starlys!" Rico responded back seriously. He then grabbed the said birdcage and ran outside into the storm, prompting Ben and the guy with a sword, named Jacob, to stand up and chase after him while saying, "Hey! You can't just go into the storm alone!" But, the question is: Will Rico rescue those Starlys before it's too late?
