Chapter 2: Chapter 2 - Taking care of a Pokémon

Third person POV

Not long after, while Rico's mother, Rosario, was cooking dinner, Rico immediately lay Riolu down on the beige sofa and quickly got a textbook about healing Pokémon, before flipping its pages. And after some digging and searching, he found out that Riolu got injured and drained of energy, and it needed a Revive to do the healing. So, with this in mind, while Rosario is about to greet him welcome back, Rico quickly grabs his shoulder bag and leaves the house, and into the streets towards the nearest Poké mart, which is only a few blocks away from his home.

Later at the Poké mart, Rico entered the building and finally catch his breath. Upon seeing him, the cashier casually greeted, "Welcome to the Poké mart. How can we help you?"

Looking at the cashier with sheer exhaustion from running, Rico made a request, "Hello, do you have any Revives left?"

"Oh, Revives?" replied the cashier back. "Sorry, our last stock of Revives and Revival Herbs are sold out 5 hours ago."

This shocks Rico a lot.

"What? Are there any shipments tomorrow?"

"Well, unfortunately," the cashier gave him bad news, "a storm struck Unova a few hours ago, and all shipments had been canceled. They had been postponed until Friday." It was Tuesday when Rico rescued Riolu.

This calms Rico, and Rico starts to process that information. After a few seconds, Rico said to the cashier, "Oh, I get it now. There is a storm in a place called Unova, and all shipments are canceled, right?"

The cashier then nodded. "Yes, I'm sorry." She then bowed her head for a few seconds.

"Oh, I understand you," Rico replied back normally. "Well, um, how about this? I needed around six Potions, three Paralysis Heals, five Antidotes, and three Burn Heals, please."

"Okay, kid," the cashier accepted his request. She then went to get Rico's order, gave it to Rico, calculated the total cost, and told him, "That will be 5,000 Poké Dollars, kid."

"Okay then," Rico positively responded back as he got his sky blue and light yellow wallet. He then unzipped it and got some banknotes, without any change, before closing the wallet and giving the money to the cashier. After receiving the money from Rico, the cashier stored it in the cash register, before packing Rico's order into a brown paper bag, stapled it, and gave it to Rico saying, "Thank you for coming here."

Receiving the said paper bag, Rico gratefully and politely responded back, "Thank you so much." He then put his wallet back into his shoulder bag, and left the store. But as he walked out of the Poké Mart, he was a bit disappointed that no Revives or Revival Herbs is being sold out at that Poké Mart.

Later upon returning home, Rico greeted his parents, only to see his father, Lucas Cruz, examining Riolu's current state.

"Oh, hey, dad," he greeted Lucas as well. "What are you doing?"

"I'm just examining this Riolu," answered Lucas back. "Did you caught it?"

"No, I only found it injured," Rico responded back as he sat down on the sofa. He then started stroking Riolu's skin softly, and continued, "Well, the nearest Poké mart ran out of Revives and Revival Herbs. According to the cashier, the shipments will be postponed until Friday."

Rosario then came to the living room, only to see a Riolu lying down on the sofa. She then gasped. "What happened to this Pokémon?"

"It got injured by Pokémon thieves," Rico told her seriously. "And it needed a Revive to do the job."

"Oh, I see then," replied Rosario as she calmed down. "Well, I'll give it a blanket and-"

"I'll take it upstairs," Rico seriously interrupted her, "and I'll take good care of it."

"Are you sure about that, Rico?" Lucas asked Rico with doubt. "I mean, it's a big responsibility to take care of a Pokémon."

"I wanted to be like Ash," Rico responded back to his father, "and I'll take full responsibility for this."

Thinking about his son's future and happiness, Lucas eventually agreed to his son's terms, letting him take care of Riolu.

This excites Rico, and Rico says to him, "I'll take good care of Riolu."

Smiling at his son's happiness, Lucas added a suggestion, "Also, there are lots of Revival Herbs at the Soratas Meadows. You can go there and get some of it for your Riolu tomorrow."

"Are you sure about that, dad?" Rico replied back with doubt.

"Don't worry," replied Lucas with assurance, "I'll inform your school that you will be absent tomorrow. After all, taking care of your Pokémon is more important than your education."

This brightens Rico, and he quickly and gratefully thanked his father for the suggestion.

Later, at 8:07 p.m., after dinner and brushing his teeth, in his bedroom, Rico wrapped up Riolu's bruises with bandages, before laying them on a mattress. After that, he picked up a book about Pokémon moves from his bookshelf and started searching for easier Pokémon moves that he could memorize. He then started to memorize those Pokémon moves, and even formed his own battle style. And as Riolu lay asleep peacefully on the comfy mattress, Rico continued to self-study until 9 o'clock in the evening. By then, he turned off the lights and went to bed for the night. Another milestone has been set for him.
