Chapter 11: Chapter 11 - Battle with a Classmate
Later at Kawayan City's Pokémon Academy, at the fields in front of the main school building, during recess, Rico showed his Riolu to another of his friends, named Adrian, who owns a Bulbasaur. Adrian was shocked to see a rare Fighting-type, commenting, "You got a Riolu? But, how?"
"Well, I got it from Pokémon thieves who wanted to catch it," explained Rico back in a bit of positivity.
This revelation also shocks Juan as well.
"What? You never told me that!"
"Sorry, Juan," Rico responded back with an apology.
After that, Adrian asked Rico, "So, you got a Pokédex and a Trainer's License, right?"
Showing his Pokédex and Trainer's License, Rico answered back, "Yeah, I do."
"That's amazing! You're now officially a Pokémon Trainer."
"Thanks."
This follows with a short silence.
"So, since you are now a Pokémon Trainer," Adrian said while thinking breaking the silence, "let's have a Pokémon battle!"
"Sure, why not!" responded Rico back with cool seriousness. Then to Riolu, "What do you say, Riolu?"
In response to that, Riolu responded back with serious coolness.
"I'll be the referee!" Juan responded to this while raising his hand.
Later at the fields adjacent to the playground, both Rico and Adrian had a Pokémon battle; their Pokémon are Riolu and Bulbasaur.
Then, Adrian said to Rico, "I'm going win against you, Rico." His Bulbasaur then responded with cool seriousness.
"I know," Rico responded back in positive coolness. He then pulled out his Pokédex and pointed towards Bulbasaur; his Pokédex then responded, "Bulbasaur, the Seed Pokémon. A Grass and Poison-type. A strange seed was planted on its back at birth. The plant sprouts and grows with this Pokémon."
"Wow, scary because it's a Poison-type, but cool at the same time," Rico commented to this. He then put his Pokédex back in his shoulder bag and faced Adrian and his Bulbasaur. But then, a figure with an Absol, a rare Dark-type Pokémon, was standing next to a steel pillar, watching them having a Pokémon battle. That figure is Shion, Rico's academic rival and a fellow Pokémon Trainer. She felt in envy that Rico got a rare Fighting-type Pokémon. But the question is: how envy she will be?
Back at the field, the battle had begun.
"Bulbasaur, use Tackle!" Adrian commanded Bulbasaur seriously. Bulbasaur then used Tackle, charging at Riolu with a full-body tackle.
"Quickly, Riolu, use Focus Blast!" Rico quickly commanded Riolu. Riolu then used Focus Blast, heightening its mental focus and unleashes its power, striking Bulbasaur with minimum damage.
Bulbasaur got blasted back to its original position and it almost collapsed to the ground.
"Bulbasaur, are you okay?" Adrian asked it in response. Bulbasaur then responded with mild pain from the Focus Blast.
"Woah, just a day of training," Rico commented on Riolu's attack, "and you're that strong."
Riolu then responded back with a positive happiness.
"Wow, your Riolu was that strong already," Adrian commented to Rico.
"Well, not that strong," Rico replied back with cool positivity. "I'm still learning though."
"I see then," responded Adrian back. Then to Bulbasaur in seriousness, "Alright, Bulbasaur, use Vine Whip!" Bulbs then used Vine Whip, striking Riolu with slender, whiplike vines. This inflicts maximum towards Riolu, and Riolu almost collapsed to the ground.
"Riolu! Are you okay?" Rico asked Riolu in response to that.
Riolu then get up immediately, and responded back with seriousness.
Surprised by Riolu's willingness not to give up, Rico asked it, "You're still up?"
Looking at its Trainer, Riolu responded back with seriousness. It then turned back towards the battle.
Understanding and analyzing Riolu's response for a couple of seconds, Rico replied to it, "You're right...." Then seriously to it, "Alright, use Focus Blast, again!" Riolu then used Focus Blast again, heightening its mental focus and unleashes its power.
But Adrian immediately commanded Bulbasaur to dodge the attack, and Bulbasaur then dodged Riolu's attack quickly with alert.
"Then use Bullet Seed!" Adrian commanded Bulbasaur again. Bulbasaur then used Bullet Seed, forcefully shooting seeds at Riolu.
"Quickly, dodge it!" Rico immediately and seriously commanded Riolu.
Riolu then dodged Bulbasaur's attack, and Rico commanded it, "Then use Quick Attack!" Riolu then used Quick Attack, charging at Bulbasaur in a fast pace, striking Bulbasaur directly. Bulbasaur got defeated by it and finally collapsed to the ground in fainting.
"Bulbasaur is unable to battle," Juan announced the battle's results. "Riolu wins, and the winner is Rico of Kawayan City."
This causes Rico to rejoice in mild victory, and Riolu jumped to him and gave him a hug.
Calling his defeated Bulbasaur back, Adrian said to it, "You did great, Bulbasaur, you deserved some rest." He then put the Poké Ball on his Poké belt and said to Rico in cool seriousness, "I can't believed you're already strong even though you became a Pokémon Trainer yesterday."
Putting Riolu down gently, Rico responded back positively, "Well, me and Riolu trained up this morning, and I didn't know that Riolu was that strong."
"Yeah, I can't believe that Rico got a rare Fighting-type Pokémon," Juan responded to their after-battle conversation.
"Thanks, Juan," Rico happily replied back. Riolu then responded with cool positivity.
But, this scene makes Shion even more envious of Rico's first Pokémon, clenching her fists in envy.
