Chapter 1: Pokemon : I Choose You
In a vast, void-like chaotic space, a man wearing black-framed glasses held a notebook and a pen in his hands. While writing something with his pen, he muttered to himself:
Pocket Monster, commonly known as Pokémon. These incredible creatures inhabit this planet. They can be found in forests, the sky, the ocean—everywhere in the world. Over time, humans and Pokémon have formed various bonds, coexisting and thriving together in this world.
As he muttered, the pitch-black space around him gradually filled with color, revealing a variety of strange and fascinating creatures—these were the "Pokémon" he spoke of. Alongside them appeared various human-like figures, resembling young boys.
"And the protagonist of this story is this still-sleeping boy, Ash."
As the bespectacled man's narration continued, the surrounding scene rapidly shifted, transforming into a young boy's bedroom.
Lying asleep on the bed was the boy referred to as "Ash" by the man in glasses.
"Today is the first day of his journey as a Pokémon Trainer, but due to his excitement the night before, he overslept. Hmm, a classic development."
The man in glasses continued writing as he spoke.
At that moment, the boy on the bed suddenly sat up and shouted, "Whoa! Mom, why didn't you wake me up?"
Panicked, he scrambled off the bed in a hurry, completely unaware of the man in glasses standing beside it.
Watching Ash, still in his pajamas, rush out of the room, the man in glasses paused for a moment in thought before continuing to write:
"Next, he will go to receive his first Pokémon. With that, he will officially become a Pokémon Trainer and embark on his own journey. I wonder—what kind of extraordinary adventure awaits someone as reckless as him?"
"You were the one who said that, now that you're ten, you'd wake up on your own."
Ash's mother, busy with housework, looked up and noticed that he had only taken a bite of a slice of bread before rushing out.
She couldn't help but call out, "Hey, Ash, you can't just have bread for breakfast... Ah, he's already gone."
Ash dashed out of the house, the bread in his mouth completely forgotten as he sprinted toward Professor Oak's lab.
As he rushed past the man in glasses, the man calmly closed his notebook.
"Alright, this is how the story begins. The tale of the young boy, Ash, starts here.
What? You're asking who I am?"
"My name is Aqua, an unknown little writer. Don't worry, we'll meet again later.
For now, just focus on this little rascal, Ash!"
With those words, the man vanished from sight.
In this world, there are countless professions, but the most admired one is undoubtedly that of a Pokémon Trainer.
Through journeys and adventures, they continue to grow, striving to become the strongest Pokémon Master—a dream shared by almost every child under the age of ten.
Ash was no exception.
However, not every child has the means or talent to pursue this path.
Becoming a Pokémon Trainer requires a significant amount of money and time. For ordinary citizens, the chances of becoming a trainer who can sustain themselves are extremely rare.
Ash's family was not wealthy, but in Pallet Town, there was a renowned Pokémon researcher—Professor Oak.
Every year, he selected a few local children to become research assistants at his lab. In return, he provided them with travel funds and their first Pokémon.
Today was Ash's first day of adulthood—the legal age to become a Pokémon Trainer.
In a way, this also meant he had officially come of age.
As Ash sprinted forward, he accidentally collided with someone at the corner.
"Ah, that hurts!" he yelped, loosening his grip as his bread flew out of his mouth.
Looking up, he saw that the person he had bumped into was a girl. She wore a pure white sun hat, a snug blue T-shirt, and a red mini skirt. Her long, glossy black hair made Ash instantly recognize her.
"Blue! Ah—my bread!"
His bread was now in Blue's mouth.
"Mm... What is this?"
Blue was just about to throw the bread away when Ash quickly grabbed her hand and shouted, "No, no, no! That's my breakfast!"
"Ash?"
Only then did Blue realize that the person who had bumped into her was her childhood friend, Ash.
"Wait... That means you already bit this—"
The thought made Blue's face turn bright red. In embarrassment, she immediately threw the bread straight at Ash's face.
"T-T-This... Isn't this basically an indirect—"
Blue stood up, her face completely flushed.
Ash, however, didn't seem to care. He simply stuffed the bread into his mouth in one bite and let out a burp.
"Burp—Alright! Time to keep going. Blue, hurry up, or we'll be late!"
Only then did Blue remember that she was also running late. Panicking, she quickly chased after Ash.
"Ash, wait for me!"
The two of them sprinted through the streets of Pallet Town.
The scene shifted to Professor Oak's laboratory, where a kind-looking elderly man with white hair anxiously watched the entrance.
Muttering to himself, he grumbled, "Those two... How could they be late at a time like this? They really don't take me, Professor Oak, seriously at all."
"That's just the kind of people they are, Grandpa," the boy beside him said disdainfully.
This handsome young man with spiky brown hair was named Gary, Ash's childhood rival. However, his exceptional talent had made him quite arrogant.
"Hmph, whatever. Forget about those two," Professor Oak said angrily, sounding like a child who had been stood up.
"Gary, you go ahead and pick your Pokémon first."
"Alright. Honestly, it doesn't matter which one I choose. No matter what kind of Pokémon it is, I can bring out its full potential."
Saying this, Gary walked up to the three red-and-white Poké Balls and picked one up.
"Grandpa, this is the one."
"Since you've made your choice, take good care of it. Also, here's your Pokédex—"
Before Professor Oak could finish, Ash and Blue burst through the door.
"Professor Oak, we're here!"
"You're too late!"
Professor Oak clenched his fist and knocked both of them on the head.
"Ouch!"
"Hmph! That's the punishment for being late," Professor Oak huffed angrily.
Ash glanced over and noticed that Gary had already taken a Poké Ball.
"Hey! Gary, you already got your Pokémon?"
"Hmph! Unlike a certain idiot, I wouldn't be late on such an important day," Gary scoffed, casually tossing his Poké Ball in his hand.
"Who are you calling an idiot? I just overslept because I was too excited last night!" Ash retorted angrily.
Gary smirked and said mockingly, "No way, no way... Don't tell me you're actually like an elementary school kid before a field trip, too excited to sleep? What a loser."
Ash was annoyed by Gary's sharp tongue, but having grown up together, he was almost used to it by now. He quickly calmed himself and asked, "By the way, Gary, which Pokémon did you pick?"
"That's classified," Green replied smugly.
"Hah! You're just afraid I'll pick one that counters yours, aren't you?" Ash teased, playfully patting Gary on the shoulder. "Don't worry, I'm not that sneaky!"
Actually, Gary had planned to do just that, but since Ash was late, he had picked first.
At that moment, Blue walked over, casually tossing a Poké Ball in her hand.
"Countering or not, it doesn't matter," she said. "There's only one Pokémon left for you to choose from."
"Huh?! When did Blue already pick one?" Ash was still struggling with his decision, but now it didn't matter—there was nothing left to choose from.
With no other option, he picked up the last remaining Poké Ball.
"Let's see... My very first Pokémon! Come out!"
With a flash of light, a cute little Charmander appeared.
"Wow! A Charmander! It's so adorable!" Blue exclaimed excitedly. She reached out and gently stroked its smooth head.
Seeing his very first Pokémon, Ash was overwhelmed with excitement and hugged Charmander tightly.
"Charmander, I'm Ash! Let's do our best together!"
However, due to Ash's overly enthusiastic embrace, Charmander instinctively let out a small burst of flames—right onto the back of Ash's head.
"AAAHHH!" Ash screamed in pain, waving his hands frantically.
"Squirtle, use Bubble!"
At some point, Gary had already summoned his Pokémon. Squirtle jumped forward and released a stream of bubbles, extinguishing the flames on Ash's head.
"To be able to command a Pokémon so well right after receiving it… It seems Gary truly has the talent of a trainer," Professor Oak mused, stroking his chin.
As for Ash…
"This Charmander should be the most gentle one… But for some reason, I suddenly have a feeling that you won't last long on the path of a trainer," Professor Oak muttered absentmindedly.
"Come on, Professor Oak! I just started! Don't lose hope in me so soon!" Ash said awkwardly, sweating nervously.
"Alright, now that all three of you have received your Poké Balls, I'll give you these as well."
As he spoke, Professor Oak took out three red devices and handed them to the trio.
With a smile, he said, "That's right, these are Pokédexes. They can automatically record and store data on the Pokémon you capture. Ash, Gary, and Blue, I'm giving each of you one. Your task is to document every Pokémon in this world and create the most complete Pokédex. This is my dream."
"Why don't you complete the Pokédex yourself, Professor?" Ash asked curiously.
It must be because Professor Oak is too old and not physically fit anymore, Ash thought to himself.
Standing beside him, Blue smacked the back of his head and sighed, "Don't just blurt out the truth like that! Do you have no emotional intelligence?"
"Pfft—" Gary stifled a laugh.
Hearing this, Professor Oak looked even more wounded.
"No, Blue, saying it that way doesn't make you sound emotionally intelligent either," Ash retorted.
"Enough!" Professor Oak interrupted. "The situation is what it is. Your main task is to collect as much data for the Pokédex as possible. Do you all understand?"
"Understood!"
"Sorry, Professor Oak."
"Got it, Grandpa."
With their Poké Balls in hand, the three left Professor Oak's lab, ready to begin their journey.
Ash hurried back home—he couldn't possibly start his journey in his pajamas.
"Come out, Charmander!" He released his Pokémon, letting it perch on his head as he dashed toward his house.
Charmander let out a small cry, already sensing that life with this trainer was going to be anything but peaceful.
"From now on, let's do our best together, Charmander!" Ash grinned.
