Chapter 4: chapter 4
After the night they encountered Genta, our heroine and her Pokemon kept walking through the forest, in fact, they have been walking the whole day, however, the girl has spent the day walking barefoot, much to her ace's concern.
''Shouldn't you put on your shoes already?'' Cinderace asked.
''Nah, I'm fine, I already told you I prefer to go this way.'' She answered.
''Why do you even like going barefoot so much?''
''What? It's healthy, Pokemon do it all the time.''
''Yeah, but you're not a Pokemon, and who says is healthy?''
''There's a Gym Leader in Sinnoh, I think her name is Maylene, she always goes barefoot and she's perfectly fine.''
''Maylene? You mean that girl who almost died in a snow storm when she was going to visit her girlfriend barefoot and lightly dressed?''
''Uh, yeah...that one.''
''Love truly makes you stupid.'' Cinderace said referring to Maylene. ''Anyway, I'm just worried about you hurting yourself.''
''I'm paying attention, it's not like a Stunfisk is going to appear out of nowhere.''
''Yeah, I suppose you're right...WATCH OUT, A STUNFISK!''
''Where?!'' She raised a leg and jumped on the other falling down.
''HA! You fell for it, fool!'' Cinderace pointed as her whole team laughed.
''That's not funny.'' She said getting up annoyed.
''Maybe not, but that's why you should put your shoes on.''
''Will you keep saying that all day?''
''I told you I'm just worried, it's also getting also getting late, you know? Maybe we should stop and rest here.''
''Late?'' She looked up to sky noticing it was almost dusk. ''Weird, we should have made it to Turffield already.''
''Why are we going to Turffield anyway? Is there something there?''
''Nothing important, I just thought it would be a good stepping off point, once we get there we'll decide where to go next, it was also the closest town to Stow-on-Side.''
''I see.''
''Still, you're right, it's kinda late, let's set up the tent over here.''
Just like last night they set up the campfire and ate marshmallows, this time no hairband was stolen. The girl then retrieved her Pokemon except for Cinderace, they've been sleeping together since they were both young and both got used to it. However, when both got inside, Cinderace noticed her trainer was looking up at the nothingness.
''What are you thinking about?''
''I don't know, yesterday we had Genta and the thing with Rufflet, so I had the guard up, but today nothing happened, we just walked, more than that, it looks like we are lost.''
''Well, not every day is gonna be the same, But don't lose sight of tomorrow, who knows what could happen next?''
''You took that from a fortune cookie, didn't you?''
''Hmm, maybe.''
''Sure, Good night, Ginderace.''
''Hey, could you at least put on socks to sleep?''
''I said good night, Cinderace.'' She ignored the Pokemon.
'ARGH THIS GIRL!' The Pokemon thought for herself. ''Yeah...good night.''
Once she was sure her trainer was asleep, Cinderace silently got up and and started searching on the backpack for something ''I'll just give her a little lesson, come on, I'm pretty sure we have one.'' She finally found what she was looking for. ''Here it is! This backpack sure is convenient.''
Next day the girl woke up noticing her Pokemon was not on the tent. ''She's probably out there training, alright, time to rise and SHINE!'' The girl let a foot on the ground and screamed as she got burned, she then noticed her tent was surrounded by hot sand ''What the...?''
''Oh, you're awake!'' Exclaimed Cinderace innocently carrying her trainer's backpack along with the rest of her Pokemon that were sitting where the sand ended looking at her.
''Cinderace, what did you do?''
''What? Me? I didn't do anything.'' The rabbit looked to the side hiding a TR case behind her.
''Scorching Sands? Are you serious? Clean this up!''
''No, I don't think I will.''
''Guys, Could you help me out?'' The trainer asked to the rest of her Pokemon but they all shook their heads.
''No, they won't help you either, I already bribed them with berries, so...why don't you...PUT ON YOUR GOD DAMN SHOES?!''
''How long are you going to continue with that?''
''At least as long as I'm traveling with you.''
''Fine, just give me the backpack.''
''Right, here you go.'' Cinderace threw to the backpack but it felt in the middle of the sands where her trainer couldn't reach it.
''CINDERACE!''
''Fine, fine, Hitmontop, Rapid Spin.''
Hitmontop got on the spike of his head and started spinning to blow off the sand until the place was cleared, the girl then got out of her tent, pulled her shoes out of the backpack and finally put them on.
''There, you happy?'' She said annoyed.
''Yes, yes I am." The rabbit smiled victorious.
The girl angrily grunted as she started to pack the tent.
''Oh, come on, how many times do I have to repeat that I'm just worried about you?''
''You worry too much, I don't need you to babysit me! I'm the trainer! I can take care of myself!''
''I'm not babysitting you! If you are really gonna do this travel then you should listen to me, you can't do it all on your own. Eventually you'll have to rely on other people too.''
''...Let's just keep moving.'' She sighed
After a few more walking they finally made it to a town but it wasn't the place they were expecting.
''Hey, this isn't Turffield, this is Hulbury.'' She said looking at her surroundings and spotting a deck. ''We must have done a wrong turn somewhere.''
''Eh, they're not that different anyway.''
''Maybe not, but they're not exactly close either, although that explains why we were taking so long to get out of the forest.''
''Hey, why don't we go to the Gym and practice Dynamax, we haven't done it in a while.''
''I'm not sure, maybe we should keep a low profile, we're still runaways after all."
''Does that matter? We are already pretty far from Stow-on-Side and if Genta said the truth, which I'm pretty sure he did, they won't be searching for you over here.''
''You do have a point.''
''Who's worrying too much now?''
''Haha...'' She let out a sarcastic laugh. ''Fine, let's go to the stadium.''
''Excuse me.'' She talked to a League staff member who was guarding the place ''Is the Gym available to use right now?''
''Of course, the Gym Leader is on a trip so the stadium is free for anyone to use.''
''Thanks.'' She got in and noticed the place was empty. ''Seems like nobody's here today.''
''I'll go first!'' Cinderace ran to the battlefield.
"Sounds good.'' The girl got in her usual position. ''You ready?'' She put on her Dynamax band and turned it on.
''Sure, just let me warm up a little.'' Cinderace started shooting Pyro Balls to the other side of the field and jumped up a few times. ''Alright, Let's do it!''
''Fine then!'' She then retrieved Cinderace as the Poke Ball grew in size. ''Cinderace, Dynamax!''
Meanwhile not much far away was Ash, who has spent the night in the Pokemon Center and was about to leave to get back on track, at the door of the center he found Oleana who apparently didn't leave Hulbury either.
''Oh, Ash, you are still here, I though you have already left to Turffield.''
''Hello Miss Oleana, In the way I caught a new Pokemon and had to came back to the center to heal it.''
''I see, I also got some unexpected business and had to get back here, by the way have you seen the Gym already?''
''No, I don't think I have.''
''Well, you should go, you just have to take the north street and you'll be there, is that one big building.''
''Right, we'll go there before leaving, thanks Miss Oleana.''
Ash went through the north street and made it to that one big building, the size of the place surprised both Ash and Pikachu.
''This is the Gym? A whole stadium? I guess Rose wasn't being pretentious at all when he said the Galar league was on another level.'' Ash walked through the halls of the stadium and eventually made it to the stands, the place was as big as some League stadiums that he has been in. ''And this is supposed to be a normal Pokemon Gym here? ...If all Gyms are like this then I can't even imagine how the Stadium for the league would be.'' Ash then looked down noticing someone was on the battlefield. ''Hey, why is that girl holding a giant Poke Ball? WHAT IN THE-!''
Ash and pikachu stood speechless as a giant Pokemon came out of the ball, tall as the stadium itself.
''Pikachu...you're seeing that too, right?''
''Pika...'' the Pokemon nodded.
''L-Let's get down there.'' Surprise, curious and honestly a bit scared, Ash and Pikachu made their way to the battlefield.
''Kneel before me! HAHA! Don't you love this? I feel like a legendary!'' The giant rabbit said shadow boxing.
''Yeah, you look cool, but you still can't Gigantamax.''
''Don't worry about it, I'm sure we'll find out how to do it eventually.''
''I hope so, for now let's ju-'' She suddenly felt goosebumps as a finger touched her shoulder.
''Hmm, excuse m-'' Before Ash could end talking, the girl grabbed his wrist, Throwing him over her shoulder and then crashing him into the ground with Pikachu barely jumping in time to not be smacked down too. She then noticed what she did and instantly got down to see if the boy was injured.
''Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry! Are you okay?!''
''Yeah, I've been...thrown harder.'' Ash sat trying to endure the pain.
''I'm really sorry, it was just a reflex.''
''No, it's my fault I shouldn't have approached like that, I just wanted to ask what was that thing you did just now?''
''Well, that was...a shoulder throw.'' She said even more ashamed.
''No, I mean that thing when your Pokemon turned huge.''
''That? That was just Dynamax.''
''Dynamax?''
Cinderace then squatted down to take a closer at the boy.
''You're not from here, are you?'' She asked him.
''Nope, I'm from kanto.''
''Uh, well, let me see...'' She thought about what to say for second, Dynamax was one of the most important and basic things in Galar, it was like explaining what walking was. ''Dynamax...is something we do here in Galar, the Pokemon grows in size and its moves becomes way more powerful, it can only be used once per battle tho.'' She ended the explanation and Ash processed it for a moment.
''More powerful? You mean like Z Moves?''
''What are Z Moves?'' She asked.
''Well, it's when a Pokemon's move becomes way more powerful, but it can only be used once per battle.''
''...Sure...Uh, there's also Gigantamax when the Pokemon not only grows on size but his shape also changes to become more powerful, but only a few species can do it.''
''You mean like Megas?''
''...What...are Megas?''
''It's when a Pokemon change its shape to become more powerful...but only a few species can do it.''
''...''
''...''
''This conversation isn't going anywhere, is it?'' She sighed.
''Sorry, as I said I just arrived in Galar. I'm unfamiliar with this.''
''I just started my journey too, it looks like there's also a lot Cinderace and I need to learn.''
''Cinderace, uh?'' Ash pulled out his Rotom Phone who opened its Pokedex application ''Cinderace, the Striker Pokemon, the evolved form of Raboot and the final evolution of Scorbunny, It's skilled at both offense and defense, and it gets pumped up when cheered on. But if it starts showboating, it could put itself in a tough spot.'' The phone explained.
''HEY! WHO'S A SHOWBOATER?!'' The giant complained scaring Rotom making it fly back to Ash's pocket.
''By the way, isn't this kinda dangerous?'' Ash asked.
''Not at all, there's a barrier between the arena and the crowd, look at this...Cinderace, Max Flare!''
Cinderace got up and blew up a humongous flame that caused the sun to go brighter, the fire was directed to the stand, but it was stopped by something that looked like a psychic barrier.
''That was...incredible. C-Can you do it again?'' Ash and Pikachu watched at the attack with amazement.
''Uh, sure. Cinderace, another Max Flare.'' This time Cinderace created an even bigger flame due to the sun setted for the first one, This time amazing both trainers.
''It's been a while since the last time I did this...'' She said. ''I honestly forgot how impressive it can be.''
''What else can you do?''
''Let's do a Max Lightning!'' She was starting to get as excited as the boy.
Cinderace charged up electricity and expelled a giant thunderbolt once again getting blocked by the safety barrier, the attack created an electric terrain that surrounded the whole stadium. Cinderace then shrunk back to his normal size and stood along her trainer greeting Ash and Pikachu.
''Phew, and that's it, Dynamax only lasts for three attacks so you need to know how and when to use it.'' She looked at the boy who had his jaw dropped and stars in the eyes. ''Is everything alright?''
''T-That was...wow, and you say this is the normal thing here?''
''Yes, you see this band?'' She pointed at her right wrist. ''It's what you need to use Dynamax and you can buy it in any store. Pretty much everyone in Galar has one.''
''Eveyone? If all the Gym Leaders use one of those then we're gonna need one too.''
''You are going to take the Gym challenge?''
''Yes, that's why Pikachu and I came to Galar.''
''Well, you should know that Pikachu is one of the Pokemon that can Gigantamax, maybe you'd have better luck with that.''
''Better luck?''
''Cinderace should be able to Gigantamax too, but she just can't do it for some reason.''
''Is there any difference besides the shape change?''
''Any Pokemon can do Dynamax, but to Gigantamax the Pokemon needs to have a really strong bond with its trainer, Cinderace and I have been partners since she was a Scorbunny and I was pretty young, We've been together for so long, she should be able to do it...but she can't, it makes me feel like I'm somehow failing as a trainer.'' She saddened for a moment until Cinderace gave her a hug which she corresponded making her brighten again.
''You two look pretty close, if Gigantamax is as you say then I'm sure you'll be able to do it soon.'' Ash could see that she was a trainer that cares deeply for her Pokemon, just like he does.
''Thanks, I hope that too.''
''Well, I will let you train, Thanks for all the explaining.'' He said finally getting up with a bit of pain.
''Are you sure you are okay? I could take you to the pokemon center or something.''
''I'm fine, there's no need to worry.''
''if you say so.'' She still felt a bit guilty.
Ash was about to leave but then he remembered he didn't even got the girl's name so he turned back and talked to her again, this time from a safe distance to not be thrown again.
''By the way, my name is Ash. What's yours?''
''I'm...Bea.'' Cinderace then gave her trainer a weird look but decided to not say anything for the moment.
''Nice to meet you, Bea, see ya later!''
''Yeah...later.''
Ash then left the stadium and the girl and her Pokemon were alone again.
''Bea? Where did that come from?'' Cinderace asked.
''What? it's just a nickname.''
''Why didn't you tell him your full name?''
''I...I'm not sure if I can trust him.''
''What? You were the one who smacked him onto the ground, HE shouldn't trust YOU!'' Cinderace pointed her trainer accusing her.
''T-That was an accident.''
''Still tho, you were the one who said that wanted to make friends.''
''I know what I said...but I guess its easier said than done.''
''Really? Even though you looked so comfortable talking with him.''
''Comfortable?'' that was somewhat true, Bea felt like that wasn't the first time she talked with Ash, it was as if that boy irradiated some kind of positive energy that made her feel safe.
''Oooh, What's with that look?'' Cinderace commented with a mocking smile.
''What look?''
''No, it's nothing, Bea...You know what? I kinda like it, I'll call you that from now on. FROM NOW ON, FROM NOW OOOOOOON; AND WE WILL COME BA-'' Cinderace was about to sing but Bea covered her mouth.
''Please don't sing now.''
''So, Can I call you that?''
''Do what you want.''
