Pokemon Battle System: I Reincarnated As A Charmander

Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Solar Power

After completing the potential assessment, Kalia left the research institute. Although she couldn't determine Charmander's highest potential aspect, at least she discovered Treecko's exceptional speed potential.

Based on their previous battles, it was evident that Charmander displayed remarkable talent in mastering moves quickly and rapidly improving proficiency.

Considering this, Kalia felt that Charmander's potential might not be weaker than Treecko's, possibly even stronger. A Pokemon capable of swiftly learning moves could save significant training time, instantly enhancing combat effectiveness once powerful moves were comprehended.

Upon returning to her hotel, it was nearly bedtime. However, Kalia didn't rush to sleep; instead, she began documenting her upcoming training plan.

Her first priority was preparing for the Extreme Speed Conference in two weeks, with the main goal being to evolve Treecko into Grovyle during this period.

Of course, evolving Charmander into Charmeleon was also crucial. Facing the Flying Type Gym, Treecko had a significant disadvantage, making Charmander the key player. Only after evolving into Charmeleon did she feel confident enough to challenge the gym.

Understanding type advantages is crucial for Trainers, especially when their Pokémon have not yet mastered many moves, making it vital to comprehend the relationships between different types.

However, in higher-level battles, it's not solely about type advantages; although still important, the variety of moves at each Pokémon's disposal adds numerous unpredictable elements to combat.

For instance, if a Fire-type Pokémon unexpectedly unleashes a powerful Fighting-type move against a Rock-type Pokémon, it could inflict significant damage, rendering the typical type advantage irrelevant.

As Kalia sat nearby, strategizing their next plan, Lian had already dozed off, eager to check today's battle ratings.

Late at night, within the System space:

Lian reviewed a series of combat data and noticed he remained at level 12 without any change, as there hadn't been much battling recently.

Today's combat rating was quite impressive, reaching a C+, earning him a total of 448 Combat Points, significantly more than usual.

He also observed Charmeleon's updated stats, which now reflected its evolution to level 16.

Charmeleon (Julian)

Attribute: Fire-type

Level: Lv.16

Ability: Solar Power

Moves: Growl, Scratch, Ember, Smokescreen, Dragon Breath

Ability Stats: Stamina 446, Attack 255, Defense 236, Special Attack 315, Special Defense 258, Speed 306

Combat Rating: C+

Level Difference Reward: +4

Racial Difference Reward: +9

Ability Stats Difference Penalty: -10

Output Difference Reward: +445

Output: Charmander (445), Charmeleon (0)

Total Combat Rewards: 448

Total Combat Value: 449

Despite being a level 16 Charmeleon, Lian noticed that the Ability Stats Difference Reward still deducted 10 points. This was likely due to his significant enhancement of ability values earlier, resulting in overall stats surpassing those of the Charmeleon.

What surprised Lian most was that this Charmeleon's Ability turned out to be the hidden trait Solar Power. No wonder it didn't enter Blaze Mode when its stamina was low.

Lian actually preferred the Solar Power trait over Blaze, although it has side effects and is harder to trigger.

Firstly, it requires clear sunny weather, meaning this ability can only be triggered outdoors during favorable conditions.

A Pokemon with Solar Power experiences a significant boost to its Special Attack Attribute under clear skies. However, the downside is a continuous loss of Stamina.

This trait aligns perfectly with Lian's strategy, as Blaze mode necessitates low health to activate, essentially forcing him to take damage first. With Solar Power, although there is a Stamina drain, the system likely won't count it as damage from the opponent, thus not affecting his combat rating.

Solar Power could arguably be the most compatible Ability with the system's rules. The only drawback is its reliance on sunny weather; without it, the Ability becomes ineffective.

Lian opened his Ability column, and he saw that while the Blaze Ability was active, the plus sign following it remained grayed out. Previously, when he had accumulated over two thousand Combat Points, he checked it but found the same situation.

It's evident that Abilities can be upgraded, and Lian even suspected that the plus sign might indicate adding another Ability altogether. After all, Blaze and Solar Power do not conflict and could potentially stack.

Naturally, having two Abilities seemed too good to be true. Lian doubted the system would allow it, as that would be incredibly overpowered.

From what he could tell, activating the plus sign likely required accumulating a substantial amount of Combat Points or meeting certain evolution conditions.

"Maybe I should try amassing over three thousand Combat Points at once?" Lian murmured to himself. Previously, he had consistently increased his Special Attack after reaching moderate thresholds, with the highest being around two thousand points.

He felt that by accumulating enough Combat Points, the plus sign following Blaze Mode might activate, potentially leading to some surprising changes.

Lian decided to proceed with this plan. As his strength grew, he now earned over three hundred Combat Points per battle, making it feasible to reach over three thousand within about ten days.

Although this would slow down the enhancement of his Special Attack, honestly, Lian's current level was already significantly higher than even Charmeleon's Special Attack Ability value.

With just over four hundred Combat Points currently displayed, Lian resisted the urge to use them immediately and exited the System space.

The next day, upon waking up, Lian noticed Treecko patiently waiting nearby. This time, Treecko didn't wake him, much to his satisfaction, indicating that it subconsciously feared him.

He swiftly jumped out of bed, while Kalia continued sleeping soundly. Looking outside, he saw dawn was approaching, which puzzled him as Kalia usually woke up earlier than this.

However, it worked out perfectly; he could now focus on battling with Treecko uninterrupted. The outcome seemed quite predictable; if he could defeat Charmeleon without taking any damage, handling a small Treecko would be effortless.

Indeed, when Treecko charged at him, Lian promptly unleashed an Ember attack.

Treecko hastily dodged, narrowly avoiding the Ember, then sprinted forward, preparing to use Quick Attack.

Unfortunately for Treecko, Lian's speed now matched its own. Even with Quick Attack, Lian could anticipate Treecko's movements and swiftly responded with another Ember.

This time, Treecko couldn't dodge; it may have been too careless, assuming its high speed during Quick Attack would avoid Ember.

The current Ember move was significantly stronger than their previous encounter. Although Treecko had also evolved since then, Lian's improvement surpassed its growth.

The flames engulfed Treecko, causing severe damage. Unluckily, it triggered the rare Burn status effect, weakening it as it collapsed onto the ground with a pained expression, appearing unable to continue battling.

Seeing Treecko instantly defeated by Ember left Lian speechless. It dawned on him just how wide the gap between them had become.

He quickly retrieved a Potion from his backpack and sprayed some on Treecko's wounds. However, due to the Burn status, the Potion could only provide temporary relief; they needed to visit the Pokemon Center for proper treatment.

Lian decided to gently wake Kalia, knowing that delaying medical attention for an injured Pokemon could worsen the condition.

Kalia, still groggy from late-night sleep, immediately sprang up upon realizing Treecko's injury. She hastily took the weakened Treecko to the Pokemon Center for treatment.
