Continuing the following plot, Leon and Claire come to the end of Raccoon City through the highway with zombies everywhere on the street. Finally, the zombies attacked, and the man who ate a burger drove a big truck.
The car driven by Leon crashed, burst into flames, and became a barrier that separated Claire from Leon. At the end of the cutscene, a mission prompt appeared: Find a way to the police station.
"Well, hot damn." After the plot ended, Louis was able to control Leon's actions. He watched the zombies roar and scramble at him who only had a pistol in hand that didn't even have a bullet.
Louis felt a slight chill run down his spine. Is this horror?
Louis didn't feel particularly terrified, but from a visual standpoint, these zombies' appearances were pretty unsettling. Compared to the psychological horror of other styles, this style of horror that emphasizes gore felt a bit less terrifying to him.
But while he wasn't outright scared, he was tense. Facing the roaring zombies surrounding him and holding a pistol without bullets left Louis on edge.
"Where on earth am I supposed to go?" Looking at the fire around the car and the raindrops falling, the standard horror movie atmosphere, the sound of zombies roaring through the headphones, and the tense BGM melody, Louis was slowly immersed in the game.
He carefully walked around the group of zombies but got surrounded by two halfway, taking a heavy bite.
Seeing the close-up of the zombie's face with its blood and pupil-less gray eyes after he fell, Louis couldn't help but shudder in front of the computer. This is a bit much.
But when playing, Louis felt a completely different experience from "Outlast", it wasn't just a pure horror game. When he played "Outlast," he was engulfed in terror from the moment he stepped into the Mount Massive Asylum, unable to think of anything but surviving the horror.
But after playing "Resident Evil" for over ten minutes, Louis felt differently. The visceral horror of bloodthirsty zombies was more bearable. Additionally, the plot displayed through the immersive visuals made him a bit curious. For instance, how did these zombies appear? Were there others still alive in Raccoon City? This curiosity kept Louis engaged.
The plot doesn't need to be incredible, but it builds a layer of fear effectively for the player. It makes the player feel scared, but not overwhelmed, allowing them to enjoy the story while staying on edge, but also not so scared they ignore the plot entirely.
"Damn capitalism, this is a police station!? It looks like a museum. I would believe it if someone told me so!" Louis finally found the way to the police station, locking the big iron door behind him, and, stepping into the grand hall, he was taken aback.
It's hard not to be, the police station was lavish, resembling a European-style building from the previous century, with a statue holding a flag in front.
After taking it all in, Louis searched around and found some bullets on the desk at the front desk and a typewriter that could save his progress.
With the bullets reloaded and the magazine showing six rounds, Louis felt a bit more at ease. At least now he had a chance to fight back against the zombies, rather than only running.
After loading the bullets and saving the game with the typewriter, Louis investigated and interacted with the computer on the table, triggering a plot scene.
[ Tapping a few times, surveillance footage from around the police station appeared on screen, and Leon's face became serious: "Why is there no one around?"
The BGM became eerie. Suddenly, on one of the screens, a police officer was being chased by a zombie.
On the monitor, the officer called out, "Marvin-! Are you there? I found a way out!"
The officer looked straight at the camera, holding up a notebook: "Request support, east corridor-!"
He was chased off-camera by the zombies. Leon tapped the computer a few more times, and a police station map appeared.
"I have to find him!" ]
Along with Leon's self-talk, Louis realized he could move again, with shortcut keys for the map showing on the screen.
Following the map's instructions, Louis directed Leon toward the guardhouse through a half-open rolling door. The walls and floors were stained with dried blood, and the corridor was dark. With only a flashlight, he could barely make out the path ahead.
"This is much better than 'Outlast', no battery limit on the flashlight," He muttered. Unlike "Outlast," where the flashlight's battery life was a constant worry, Louis grinned at the relief.
If he hadn't played "Outlast" first, the creepy music and dark surroundings might've shaken him. Even though he was still a little tense, it was manageable, after all, he had managed to shut his eyes through "Outlast."
He cautiously advanced, the floorboards creaking, bloodstains scattered, a toilet overflowing in the women's restroom, and a guard's corpse at the security room entrance.
The game's horror atmosphere was spot-on. Although it hadn't hit any high points yet, the environmental setup was leagues above that in "Outlast." Because of the larger production budget, enhanced physical effects, and high-quality graphics engine, "Resident Evil" felt much more realistic than "Outlast."
Controlling Leon's cautious footsteps, Louis felt a slight shiver of dread, worried that something might suddenly leap out and scare him.
[ Reaching the marked location, he heard a banging sound in his headset and a shout for help: "Open the door, open the door, open the damned door!" ]
Running to the roller door, he triggered a cutscene.
[ Leon yelled and lifted the rolling door: "I'll save you!"
As the officer crawled halfway out, there was a scream and roar from the other side, as blood burst under the roller door. As the officer struggled, Leon dragged him out, but only half of him made it. ]
"F*ck, I saved only half?" Louis couldn't help but swear at the sight, it was intense.
Even Louis could make out the intestines spilling out of the officer's body, and the thought of what might come next immediately made him want a censor. If this streamed, he'd risk warnings or penalties.
Meanwhile, viewers in the live chat gasped at the scene two minutes later. Even with the censor on, who wouldn't imagine the rest? It's just like watching a horror movie, when there's a censor, don't we all fill in the blanks?
