Chapter 166: Chapter 166: A Choice Between Two?
"No way!"
"Fred actually said something like that in an interview with a World Economic News reporter? Isn't he afraid of being taken down by Isred Saint?" Sengoku stared at today's newspaper in shock.
"No."
"Sengoku, in theory, they could actually do this. Don't forget about the defection of Rear Admiral Kasso and his men," Vice Admiral Tsuru said sharply.
"Wa-hahaha!"
"I told you, that kid Ryuen wasn't going to let you have your way. He's a slippery one.
Back when I recruited him into the Marines, it took me a lot of effort. If you think a few words are enough to make him obey, you're dreaming." Garp laughed, openly mocking Sengoku.
From the moment Sengoku brought up his plan, Garp had thought it was unrealistic.
He knew Ryuen and his crew wouldn't follow orders unless they were given something that truly interested them.
Just then, Brannew entered the room, saluted the three senior officers, and said, "Fleet Admiral Sengoku, we've received news from the World Government. Fred and several other high-ranking officials have gone missing in the Grand Line."
"What?"
"Gone missing? Are you saying this was the Dream Exploration Team's doing?" Sengoku was stunned.
"The World Government suspects them, but since yesterday, the Dream Exploration Team's ship hasn't left Long Ring Long Land.
So far, there's no evidence linking them to the incident.
There's also something strange—the last known location of Director Fred's official vessel still has boiling seawater." Brannew laid out all the information.
"The seawater is still boiling? If they can do something like that… could it really be them?" Vice Admiral Tsuru was shocked.
"Garp, what do you think?" Sengoku turned to him with a serious expression.
"From what I know, this was definitely Ryuen's doing. Fred threatened him, so there's no way he'd let Fred walk away," Garp said with certainty.
"Keeping the seawater boiling for so long… is his Devil Fruit ability really that strong? Did he awaken it?" Vice Admiral Tsuru found it hard to believe.
"Based on Kuzan's fight with him in Alabasta, his fruit shouldn't be awakened yet," Sengoku said, unsure of what to make of the situation.
*Buru-buru-buru~~~*
The Den Den Mushi rang, and everyone in the office turned to look.
Brannew quickly stepped forward, picked it up, and answered, "Moshi moshi, this is the Fleet Admiral's office."
"Understood."
"Fleet Admiral Sengoku, it's Captain Ryuen."
Hearing that, Sengoku's face instantly darkened.
What a perfect opportunity. Ryuen was strong enough too, yet he still refused to cooperate.
And now he was calling—was he just rubbing it in?
"This is Sengoku!" He took the receiver, doing his best to stay calm.
"Old man Sengoku, you're really something. Always trying to set me up. Well, I'm mad this time. You figure out how to fix this!"
Hearing that, Sengoku's face turned even darker.
He was the Fleet Admiral of the Marines!
Yet here he was, being scolded by a mere Captain.
But he quickly realized something—Ryuen and his unit weren't under Marine Headquarters' direct command.
They didn't need his permission for anything they did.
Taking a deep breath, Sengoku forced himself to let it go. For now.
"Ryuen, cut the nonsense and just say what you want to do!" Sengoku said impatiently, though there was a hint of indulgence in his tone.
"*Ahem...*"
"So, Fleet Admiral Sengoku, you should know that Doflamingo is involved in this matter too, right?" Ryuen asked after a couple of dry coughs.
"You're going after the Warlords again?"
Sengoku immediately understood Ryuen's intentions, and his voice grew louder.
"Of course. He openly sent people after me—if I don't respond, how am I supposed to keep my reputation?" Ryuen's voice turned cold.
"You can go after him, but I have one condition," Sengoku said in a serious tone.
At first, he had planned to reject Ryuen's idea. The Warlords were still a necessary force in maintaining balance across the seas.
Without them, the whole ocean would be thrown into chaos.
But then he remembered that his little "Millet Biscuit" had died at Doflamingo's hands. In that case, taking him out didn't seem like a bad idea.
As for Doflamingo's spot as a Warlord...
"Condition, my ass! Sengoku, old man, we haven't even met in person, but I can already tell what you're plotting just by thinking about it!"
"Let me tell you right now, Sengoku, that's not happening!" Ryuen said bluntly.
"*Puhahaha!*"
"That's killing me—wahahaha!"
The laugh coming from the Den Den Mushi echoed through the entire office, making it clear to everyone what was happening.
Garp, the only person who didn't care about Sengoku's authority, burst into laughter the moment he heard Ryuen's response.
The others in the office also struggled to hold back their laughter.
Meanwhile, Sengoku's face had turned as black as the bottom of a pot.
"Garp, shut up!" Sengoku tossed the Den Den Mushi aside, stood up, and started shouting straight into Garp's face.
"What's it got to do with me? I just thought of something funny—is that a crime?"
"Wahahaha!" Garp laughed wildly, his face full of defiance, completely unfazed by Sengoku's spit flying at him.
Just then, a blinding golden light flashed through the room, followed by a loud *boom*.
Everyone turned to look—there was now a huge hole in the wall near the Fleet Admiral's office window.
And Garp? He was nowhere to be seen.
Looking outside from a distance, they could see a figure falling straight into the sea.
Sengoku stared at the scene outside, letting out a quiet sigh of relief. *Finally got rid of that annoying guy.*
Vice Admiral Tsuru and the others remained completely unfazed. To them, this was just another normal day.
On the other end of the Den Den Mushi, the members of the Dream Crew listened to the sounds coming through and could more or less guess what had happened.
The next moment, laughter rang out from the Den Den Mushi, filling the Fleet Admiral's office once again.
"You little punks, stop laughing!" Sengoku roared, grabbing the Den Den Mushi in frustration.
He was furious. He was the Fleet Admiral of the Marines, yet people mocked him all the time.
Even if it was just playful teasing, enough was enough!
"Ryuen, I've made up my mind. You have to pick—either the Four Emperors or the Warlords. Once you decide, contact me. That's it!"
With that, Sengoku slammed the Den Den Mushi down, ending the call.
Aboard the Dream Ship at Long Ring Long Land, Ryuen and his crew stared at the now silent Den Den Mushi.
"Did I just get threatened?"
