Percy Jackson: The Cursed Hunter

Chapter : In Defense of Aphrodite

Just wanted to write a solid defense so that I could just point people to this instead of having to write the same arguments over and over again.

Instead of going at this from of angle of purely defending against statements such as "Aphrodite is a slut and a whore and will literally slobber the d- of any and all men," I'll instead defend by weighing suspensions of disbelief, cause the core argument in the above statement is that you just can't believe that Aphrodite will stay loyal.

Basically, how likely is it that Aphrodite stays with a singular partner compared to other common tropes in PJO fanfic?

Herein, there's one key argument that practically takes out any and all arguments about an Character x Aphrodite pairing being completely unbelievable because "Aphrodite would never stay with a singular partner only."

Let's take a look at literally the most common, the most liked pairing in the PJO category, Character x Artemis.

And, because I'm not going to fix something that isn't broken (there's no point in me making an argument when somebody has already done it so splendidly), please go read the last chapter of "Gambit's Refrain" by paradoxed.

If you don't wanna go read it tho, basically, he did an in-depth analysis of the relationship between Artemis and romance, and found that...

...THERE'S ABSOLUTELY NO FUCKING WORLD WHEREIN ARTEMIS EVER BREAKS HER OATH.

He admits himself in "Gambit's Refrain" that to make his Pertemis pairing work, he had to completely fuck with Artemis' character (her ideals, her beliefs, etc.).

Y'all can prolly see where I'm going with this now.

Let's weigh these two scenarios then:

1. Artemis abandoning her maiden vow.

2. Aphrodite choosing to stay with a singular partner.

We've already established above that, according to source materials, the first scenario is literal impossible. It happens in one out of 6,969,696,969,696,969,696,969,696,969 futures.

Now, let's take a look at the second scenario.

Because there is no greater degree of impossibility than "impossible," the second scenario either requires the same suspension of disbelief or suspension of belief to a lesser extent.

Either way, this means that:

If you read Character x Artemis fics -> You're willing to suspend your disbelief to that extent -> You should be able to suspend your disbelief to the extent that, in the world of this fic, Aphrodite chooses to stay loyal.

Of course, this also means that if you're not a reader/enjoyer of Character x Artemis fics, congratulations, you can criticize the hell out of this fanfic...

...or can you?

IT'S A GODDAMN FANFIC FOR GOD'S SAKE.

Literally all fanfics require some suspension of disbelief to make them work, the only way you don't incur such a thing is if your MC is a bitch that just follows the canon events in order, without changing anything, and at that point, why not just read the original source material?

Like seriously, I'm more than happy to provide logical arguments like the comparison one above because I truly do believe persuading people with logic is the most effective form of communication, but y'all gotta understand that most authors on this platform are doing this for fun and for self-fulfillment. Literally only 1/100 of them will waste their time and actually make logical arguments for things related to the story when they can just say, "Oh, it makes sense because I wanted it to be this way."

So yuh, the only real reason that I can think of you hating on the Aphrodite pairing (for the reason that she is a whore) is that you're sexist/one of the so called "alpha males."

If somebody is genuinely trying to change, give them a chance. The only reason you'd hate the fact that Aphrodite can change is solely because you can't fathom the idea that someone would want a "tainted" woman.

First off, women are still humans, just like you, and secondly, history literally tells you that men have cheated literally hundreds, if not thousands of times more than woman have over the course of our existence.

You would still be friend with your buddy if he cheated on his wife, but you would, with a look of disgust, glare at a woman (stranger) who has cheated in the past without even trying to get to no her better?

You'd literally be judging somebody solely off one fact in their past, and I don't see how that's the same as somebody looking at you in disgust and judging you solely by the fact that you are reading shit on this "tainted" cesspool of a site.

So yuh, unless you have literally never thought about another woman except for your current partner in your life (getting hard over literally a jpeg of a woman disqualifies basically all you guys), then you are literally just Aphrodite, just you were too much of a wimp to act on your desires.

The mere fact that you even thought about the other woman disqualifies you from being able to judge someone who has been in multiple relationships.

Just fuck off if you ain't gonna give Aphrodite a chance.

...

...

...

Okay okay, is no one looking now?

I've done my job writing incredible rhetoric, right?

You were persuaded, right?

You completely believe that the pairing is fine, right?

Well well, here are the holes in the above arguments.

The biggest and most damning one:

Aphrodite has probably cheated enough to the point wherein it makes up for like, a quarter to a half of the difference between the male and female populations.

Honestly, this is impossible to defend according to the scriptures of the majority of religions.

Obviously, if you hate Aphrodite due to your religious beliefs, I can't hate on that. I live in a country with free speech, so say whatever the fuck you want.

Second, I base basically all my arguments past the comparison argument on the fact that Aphrodite is willing to change.

If you win the fact that Aphrodite won't ever change, then you'd win those arguments...

...but, of course there's a catch.

You'd find yourself in a double bind, because, unless you come up with a completely outlandish argument, I'd be able to point to a similar restriction on Artemis' side and get you with that.

So, either you don't believe that the pairing will work out, meaning you fall to the first argument, or you believe the pairing will work out and fall into the second and third arguments.

Fun, no?

Hehe, I can't do all the work for you guys.

I've set up the stage for y'all, it'd be fun if you responded, but it would be no worries if you didn't either, this is purely for your entertainment as will as mine (maybe we'd move this to the discord server if I ever make one, cause replying in WN comments will be a pain).
