Chapter 26: I pick up a stray, or more than one.
Water I had decapitated the demon, I was ready to walk away and leave hell, but then something caught my eye.
There, dwno an ally, hidden by the shadows, was a building. It was low at most two stories high but incredibly long. There was an old sign above the door frame and it said Animla Shelter.
At first I was sceptical, as I did not think that there were actual animal down here, not counting the hellhounds. But, as I entered it, I was corrected.
There were a lot of different animals. From seemingly demonic crocodiles to snakes, dogs, cats, birds and even horses. And for some reason there was even a giant tank full of demonic sharks and other fish that should not even be here, much less exist.
I wandered around for a bit, curious about the options but not realy with the intention of taking something home with me.
But then I saw a spider demon, with long arms and web like tattoos, open one of the doors and bring out a hellhound. It looked a but rough around the edges, as if it would be ready to bite of your entire arm, but it displayed a lot fear, whining constantly.
I couldn't just watch so I stopped the demon.
"Hey, can I know if it is possible to take that one with me?"
The demon looked at me. "Do you have any money?"
"No?"
"Then why even bother? They need food or the presence of a strong demon to survive. Can you offer them any of that?"
"I think I have ways to support every animal in this shelter." I said. Was i insane? More than likely but we all need a little bit of insanity for life to be fun. That of course did not prepare me for what the demon responded with.
"Then take them. Every single one of them. I couldn't care less about them and this shelter is going to shut down in two days. The more you take with you, the less I have to put down. By the way, I already brought some of them to the back, would you take those too?"
Well this was entirely unexpected. How am I going to take care of them and where would I even keep them? Then I remembered something interesting. Many of the animals here could potentially be used as service animals for those that had been raped by that demon.
[Host, you can allow them to live in the Home-Dimension. For the matters of food and basic needs, host does not have to worry. As you have already consumed the demon bloodline you can have a positive impact on their well-being. This of course doesn't mean that your bloodline is awakened but rather that, since you have entered Hell, your demonic passive abilities have become more pronounced.]
System? I thought you had left me. Where have you been and why have you not given me any more notifications? I know I should have gotten a lot of them, especially considering I have the Feast-Skill, which should have triggered several times already!
[Host please calm down. Rewards and other gains and improvements will be displayed once the last mission is completed.]
Why!
Can't you just give the once I deserve now?
But the system didn't answer anymore.
My gaze, as I was looking around, considering if I really should go through with this, landed on the fish tank.
Fuck it, I'll take them.
30 Minutes later I left the shelter with a lot of different animals hidden inside of my shadows, fog and some had made their home on my head, arms and shoulders.
What can I say, I always had a bleeding heart for abandoned pets and animals. Speaking of which, I spread my fog once more through every street, abandoned house, sewer or anywhere where an animal could possibly hide in.
I was not going to take only the shelter animals with me but every single one of the abandoned and forgotten ones. I would leave this city and take every stray with me.
After some time I managed to enter the forest again, from where I had originally come and traveled towards where I had met the Demon King.
Once there I found a large, relatively comfortable rock and sat on it,waiting for him to reappear. I waited for quite a while but I spent the time looking and checking on the rescued animals.
I had picked up about 278 Hellhounds. They were, something I had not been aware of, able to take on a human form, if they were exposed to a strong demonic aura or presence for an extended period of time.
There were also a lot, and I realy mean it, of cats and foxes. At this point I had already realized that probably all of them had the ability to take on a human form and more than likely they would also have a humanoid form, resembling their race but in a bipedal form. Some ravens and crows were in the mix aswell, about 12 each.
But that wasn't even the most of it. There were wolves the size of dumptrucks and those were still young, enough to make several packs of them as there were 98 of them with a few puppies on the way if I sensed that right.
There was an entire swamp worth of reptiles with large bodies, claws and teeth.
A singular horse was among them aswell. At first it appeared to be sick but in the short time it was with me it had seemed to recover some of its strength and health.
And then there was the aquarium. Dozens of sharks, orcas and leviathans were inside. That's not even counting the smaller fish. They numbered in the hundreds.
So here I sat, with more animals that several zoos combined, waiting for the king of hell.
Who didn't let me wait much longer.
"I take it you have finished your business." it was more of a statement than a question.
"Yes I have. Was there any reason why you wanted me to wait here?"
Suddenly a wide grin spread on his face and he handed me a bag.
"Just wanted to give you a few things. By the way, this is my daughter. I think she could use some more friends."
He said, holding up a picture of her.
"Why are you doing this?" I gasp. "Are you trying to make me marry your daughter! No! My father would never allow this love to blossom!"
Lucifers eyes widened before their pupils dialated.
"I would never allow my daughter to marry someone as noble and beautiful as you!"
We both just stared at each other for a solid minute before we cackled at each other.
It took us a while to calm down, not counting the time we spent making even more jokes.
" So what is this realy about?" I asked him.
"Nothing specific realy. I meant it when I said my daughter could use some new friends. But there is also the debt I kind of think I owe you. I was not aware of that demons actions before and I came here to offer you something like nobility. No, I will not accept a negative answer. You came here with no ulterior motive, you would not gain something from killing that disgusting shit stain and then you just go into an animal shelter, adopt everything inside and then take in every stray in this damned city of mine. In my eyes you do deserve the Titel of nobility, I just have to speak with the seven sins and the Ars Goetia, if they are inclined to agree. But regardless. This little bag holds some smaller rewards from myself for you and a Hell phone, allowing you contact with both me and my daughter, as I saved both our numbers inside. I hope you and Charlie can become great friends but now you have to go. Bye!"
I did not even get the chance to respond before he just snapped his fingers and suddenly I was back in the human world.
