Chapter 6: Lunches and Naps
No One's POV
As Sammy sat down, he shoots Klyde a cold glare, causing Klyde to avert his gaze, feeling uneasy under Sammy's intense stare. Mason clears his throat and bumps Klyde's arm. "Sorry," Klyde murmurs.
"Hey Sammy, do you like Lana?" Mason asks.
"Why are you asking?" Sammy asks curiously.
"Well you seem to be more nicer to her than anyone else," Klyde points out.
"That's because she's my friend," Sammy explains.
"I think you two look cute together!" Katie chimes in with a playful grin
"Shut up!" Sammy snaps.
"We don't say 'shut up'!" Sunrise's voice echoed from the play area.
"I was just saying," Katie responded innocently.
Feeling embarrassed by the sudden attention, Sammy shifts uncomfortably in his seat, his cheeks flush with embarrassment as most of the kids look his way.
"Let's not be staring, kids," says Y/N, "focus on your lunches."
The other children obediently turn their attention back to their meals. As the lunchtime continues, the atmosphere gradually relaxes and the group engages in happy conversations and laughter. But Sammy still feels uncomfortable, and he retreats back to the corner he had been hiding in earlier.
"Sammy," Lana calls softly.
Sammy looks up. "Hm?"
"Why did you go away?" Lana asks curiously.
Sammy takes a deep breath and sighs. "I don't want to be here," he admits quietly, "but daddy isn't giving me a choice."
Lana tilts her head, trying to comprehend Sammy's words. But before they can talk further, y/n calls out for nap time. Without hesitation, Lana grabs Sammy by the arm and pulls him up from his hiding spot.
"Come on, Sam," Lana urges gently, "you have to come so you don't get in trouble again!"
Sammy sighs heavily. "Fine..." he mutters.
They rejoin the others. Y/N has laid out sleeping bags, signaling nap time. The kids snuggle up in the sleeping bags as Y/N switches off the light, casting the room into darkness.
In the quiet of the dimly lit room, whispered conversations float among the children.
"I heard Mr.Moon is very scary," Izzy whispers.
"That's because he is," Ruby confirms in a hushed tone.
Suddenly, Klyde calls out to Sammy, breaking the silence. "Hey, Sammy!"
Sammy lifts his head and looks at Klyde. "Yeah?"
"I dare you to kiss Lana!" Klyde says teasingly, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"What?!" Sammy exclaims, trying not to raise his voice in the quiet room.
"Ew!" Lana adds, her face scrunching up in disgust at the suggestion.
"Well, guess what, Klyde," Katie chimes in quietly, "I dare you to say the f word!"
"Don't be stupid, Klyde," Emma cautions, "don't do it."
But Klyde smirks, accepting the challenge. "*bleep*."
Although maybe he was a little bit too loud...
"Well I didn't think you would actually do it..." says Sammy.
"Well my parents—"
The jingle of the bells on Moondrop's shoes immediately makes Klyde shut his mouth. Klyde and the other kids immediately drop their heads to their pillows. Rose's eyes look up. Moondrop is standing there right beside her. She dares not say a word.
Moondrop's gaze sweeps across the room, sending shivers down the children's spines. None dare to meet his stare directly. Instead, they nervously avoid his gaze, their hearts pounding in their chests as they wait for his next move. After what feels like an eternity, Moondrop's gaze finally settles on Klyde, who had dared to utter the forbidden word. Klyde closes his eyes tightly, hoping to escape Moondrop's attention by pretending to be asleep.
But before Moondrop could reach him, the sound of Claire crying catches his attention. Moondrop's footsteps echo across the room as he walks over to Claire, his bells jingling with each step. The children watch in silence as Moondrop picks Claire up and cradles her in his arms, his expression surprisingly gentle despite his scary presence.
Moondrop finally walks away with Claire, and a collective sigh of relief sweeps through the room. "I told you not to say it," Emma mutters quietly.
"Well, thanks to Claire, he was most likely going to come over here anyways," Mason points out
Sammy pulls the sleeping bag over his head.
"Hey Sammy, are you gonna do that dare?" Klyde asks curiously.
"No," Sam responds, his voice muffled by the fabric.
"You don't have to be so mean about it..." Rose chimes in.
"I wasn't," Sammy replies defensively.
After a couple hours go by, y/n turns the lights back on. As the soft glow of the lights fill the room once again, the children begin to wake up. They rub their eyes as they slowly wake from their sleep.
"Mr. Sun," a child calls out, drawing Sunrise's attention. "This person is still asleep!"
Sunrise let out a sigh and makes his way over to the child who was still asleep in their sleeping bag. With a gentle touch, he shakes them awake. "Wake up, sleepy head," he says softly.
The child wakes up and slowly blinks their eyes open, adjusting to the light as they return to consciousness. With a yawn and a stretch, they sit up, rubbing their eyes. They look around, their mind slowly clearing as they fully wake from their nap.
After making sure all the children were awake, Sunrise went to set up his play at the theater, arranging the stage and setting out colorful props.
