Chapter 28 - The Ten-Tatami Grilled Meat Restaurant
“Nana!”
After beating up Sato, Kenya hurriedly returned home. He thought his sister must be crying. He wanted to hug her as soon as possible.
Or so he thought.
“Welcome home, big brother!”
His sister, waiting outside the house, was more energetic than he imagined.
“I’m glad, I was worried!”
“Ah, huh?”
She seems more lively than expected?
“Nana? Are you okay?”
“Yeah, since big brother came back, that means you dealt with the bad guys, right?”
“Ah, yeah. I gave them a good beating. I’ll come back to make them apologize next time!”
“It’s, it’s okay! It’s fine now!”
Nana hugged her brother and buried her face in his chest.
“Just coming back safely is enough…”
“Nana…”
Her brother also gently hugged her back.
—
A Little While Earlier
“Misuzu, I’m leaving Nana in your care. I have something I need to do.”
Saying this, Kenya entrusted Nana to Misuzu. Her clothes were tattered, and she was crying. It was easy to imagine that she had been attacked by a man.
Kenya then went off to deal with the villain.
“Nana…”
Misuzu slowly approached Nana and hugged her. After crying for a while on her chest, Nana managed to calm down.
Nana, while crying, fragmented talked about the situation, but it seemed she was only groped and nothing more happened.
So, Misuzu decided to encourage Nana by talking to her. She spoke to Nana, who had become a friend and then a close friend. She hoped to brighten Nana’s mood, even just a little.
“I’ve become so dirty…”
Nana said this, rubbing her body repeatedly. Misuzu knew this feeling.
“Nana isn’t dirty at all.”
Nana shook her head, denying Misuzu’s words. She thought she had become dirty.
Seeing this, Misuzu spoke.
“Hey, Nana. Am I dirty?”
“Huh?”
“I’ve been attacked too, you know. And they even went inside me. Am I dirty?”
Misuzu revealed this shocking fact. The surprise made Nana’s tears retreat.
“N-No! Misuzu isn’t dirty! You’re beautiful!”
Nana desperately denied it.
“Then, is Nana dirty?”
She was at a loss for words. If she said she was dirty here, it would mean that her best friend was also dirty. So she shook her head.
Misuzu gently smiled.
“It was just a little touching! Think of it as being licked by a dog! Don’t worry about it! Just think of it as a dream!”
She tried to laugh it off with light words. Understanding Misuzu’s intent, Nana showed a small smile. Misuzu then hugged Nana once more.
“Look, your tears have stopped. And surely, Kenya will come back having beaten up those bad guys! It’ll be okay!”
“But, my brother…”
“Nana, don’t you know?”
“Huh?”
“Kenya is incredibly strong!”
Nana then heard about Misuzu’s past. About how Kenya saved her from the villains in the dungeon.
Before long, the tears stopped. Listening to Misuzu, it began to feel like the painful experience wasn’t such a big deal.
“Heh, Misuzu, you’re strong.”
“Of course! I wasn’t abandoned by my parents for nothing!”
She crossed her arms and puffed out her chest, acting manly. Nana couldn’t help but laugh aloud at her self-deprecating joke.
“Somehow, I feel a bit better.”
“Good! I’m glad that my suffering wasn’t in vain.”
“Seriously, Misuzu, you have such strong mental fortitude with that appearance.”
The two girls laughed together. With the strength of the girl who had already overcome the past, another girl was also able to overcome it. Nana then stood up.
“I’ll wait for my brother outside!”
“Okay!”
—
And Now
“Welcome home, big brother.”
“Yeah, I’m back.”
The sister hugged her brother, who had returned safely. They then went back into the house together.
“Welcome back! Senior!”
“Yeah, I’m back. Thanks, Misuzu.”
“Did you take care of them properly?”
“Yeah, they’re all beaten up. I’m sure all their teeth are gone.”
“Just as expected, senior!”
With a high-five, Misuzu and Kenya celebrated. Seeing this, Nana also smiled.
Gurrrr~
Suddenly, a stomach growl was heard. Looking around to see who it was, Nana shyly raised her hand. Her tension eased, and her stomach remembered.
It was already well past dinner time. Seeing this, Kenya seemed to remember and clapped his hands.
“Alright! Wait for me!”
“Huh? Where are you going?”
“To buy something!”
Kenya then dashed outside. He returned in about ten minutes, probably using his equipment’s status to run quickly. In his hands, he had plastic bags.
Catching his breath, Kenya held up the plastic bags and said:
“Tonight we’re having yakiniku! It’s really good meat!”
It was Nana’s favorite grilled meat that she had wanted to eat.
“Seriously? Awesome!!”
“O-Oh, big brother…”
Misuzu leaped with joy, and Nana also understood Kenya’s intent and smiled. Thus, the yakiniku party began.
The sizzling sound of meat grilling and the smoke filled the room.
“Ah! Misuzu, that’s meat I raised!”
“First come, first served!”
“Oh, challenging me to a contest… Hmph!”
“Ah! The meat! Th-That’s unfair! Senior, you’re wearing equipment, aren’t you?”
“Enough already! There’s still plenty left!”
The three’s laughter filled the room.
Though small, old, and shabby, the room was very warm. Perhaps because they were grilling meat? That was one reason.
But that’s not all.
A small ten-tatami grill restaurant, and today it’s on the house from the brother, so let’s eat a lot.
Let’s fill our stomachs, fill our hearts, and laugh a lot.
Today was full of various events, and there was a lot of sadness and tears.
But if we can end the day with a smile, it surely means it was a good day.
