Chapter 6: chapter 4
Goku, brimming with excitement, bounced on his heels. "So, when do we start training?" he asked eagerly.
Master Roshi chuckled, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "Well, first I need to see what you're capable of. How about you spar with Krillin and see how you measure up?"
Krillin, standing off to the side, couldn't help but grin at the opportunity. "You and I are the same age, Goku, so this will be a fair test of strength. But I've had two extra years of training over you," he said, with cockiness and his voice
Goku's eyes lit up, ready for action. With a burst of energy, he jumped off the Nimbus, landing gracefully in a battle-ready stance. "Alright, let's do this!" he shouted.
Roshi, however, held up his hand. "Wait, there's one thing you should know first." With a mischievous smile, he reached behind him and pulled out a massive turtle shell, similar to the one he wore on his back. "You'll be wearing this during the spar."
Goku blinked in surprise. "What? You want me to fight with that on?"
Roshi nodded with a smirk. "It's part of the training. If you can handle the shell, you'll be ready for anything."
"Since you're new, Goku, I'll make you use the 50-pound shell." He handed Goku the massive turtle shell, and Goku puts it on his back. The weight immediately pulled him down, and he grunted under the strain.
"This thing is heavy!" Goku exclaimed, his muscles straining as he adjusted to the burden. It was a complete change from the agility he had
Krillin, standing nearby, casually lifted his shell and without even doing anything, he strapped it onto his back. He didn't seem to be bothered by the weight at all
Roshi looked between the two of them, his face turning serious. "Alright, let's see what you've got. Start the spar!"
Goku nodded, determination burning in his eyes. He immediately charged at Krillin with a burst of speed, but the heavy shell made his movements slower and more awkward than usual. Krillin, on the other hand, was swift and precise, moving with the ease of someone who'd been training under the same conditions for years.
Krillin dodged Goku's punch effortlessly, spinning around to land a sharp kick to Goku's side. The hit sent Goku stumbling sideways, struggling to maintain his balance under the weight of the shell.
Krillin continues by closing in and launching a series of quick jabs at Goku's chest.
Goku grunted with each hit, the shell making him feel like he was carrying a mountain. But his pride wouldn't let him back down. He swung at Krillin, but his strikes were slow and easily avoided. Krillin weaved and ducked, landing a precise knee to Goku's stomach.
Goku coughed, and the wind knocked out of him. He stumbled back, clutching his stomach, feeling the weight of the shell pulling him further down.
"What's wrong, Goku? I thought people with devil fruits would be stronger" Krillin taunted, a slight smirk on his face as he crouched low and prepared to rush in again.
Goku gritted his teeth. The weight was heavy, but he refused to give up. He took a deep breath, forcing himself to focus despite the fatigue. He tried to clear his mind of the pain in his limbs and the heaviness of the shell. Slowly, he began to adjust, thinking of Gohan's teaching
Krillin charged in again, but this time, Goku was ready. He shifted his stance and, with a grunt, swung his fist outward, catching Krillin off guard with a heavy punch to the chest. Krillin staggered back, surprised by the sudden strength behind the blow.
How did he fight me Krillin said, to himself backing off to rethink his strategy
Goku, breathing heavily, smiled through the sweat dripping down his face. "I'm getting the hang of this!" he said, trying to shake off the stiffness in his limbs.
The two circled each other, the battle now more evenly matched. Goku's movements were still slower than Krillin's, but he was adapting. He threw a series of heavier, more calculated punches, forcing Krillin to retreat and block rather than attack.
For a brief moment, Goku's momentum built up as he gained confidence, dodging a kick from Krillin and countering with a spinning elbow to Krillin's side. It landed with a satisfying thud, causing Krillin to wince.
Roshi, watching the fight intently, held up his hand. "Alright, that's enough!"
Both Goku and Krillin froze mid-action, turning to face Roshi.
"Good work, Goku," Roshi said, nodding approvingly.
"You're starting to get the hang of it. But don't get cocky — you've still got a long way to go."
Goku panted, sweat dripping from his brow, but a grin spread across his face. "That was awesome! I didn't think I'd be able to move with this thing on"
Krillin looked at Goku with shock since he believed that he was going to beat him easily, but he adapted and fought teo to teo
The turtle clapped with its hands "Good job Goku I knew you could do it"
Roshi chuckled again, a wise glint in his eyes. "Training with the shell will help you build strength and endurance, but most importantly, it'll teach you how to move"
"Now how about we go inside and eat something," Roshi said as Goku immediately stood up re-energized, and ran inside. Roshi chuckles as he tells Krillin to hurry
[After lunch]
Krillin is left shocked and mortified because he has never seen anybody eat so fast as Goku
Goku it's there satisfied sitting and picking his gums with a bone "Oh my you're a big eater" Roshi says A little bit shocking his face as well
"Goku only beat me because he ate a devil fruit," Krillin says with an annoyed face
"What's a devil fruit?" Goku replied, "So you're telling me your monkey tail isn't from a fruit?"
"Nope," Goku said with no lie on his face "had this tail for all my life, at least that's what my grandpa told me"
"Goku I know this may be a sensitive topic, but how did your grandfather die?" Roshi asked as Goku's face immediately saddened
"Well a couple of years ago he said a giant ape came around once and destroyed everything and he couldn't find me the last thing I member was looking at was the full moon"
"And the second time the same thing happened but Gohan wasn't around" Sadness, showed Goku's face
"Goku I'm sorry to hear that but I think you're the giant ape that killed him," Roshi said Goku looked at him and was shocked
"What," Goku said lost for words,
"You said each time the ape came you were looking at the full moon and fall asleep maybe you turned into it when looking," Roshi said
Goku then starts to cry knowing that he was the one who killed his grandfather. But he feels Roshi's hand on his shoulder "But I can help you master that"
Goku then looks at Roshi and his words and asks "Really?"
"Yes I can but you'll have to work hard" Golu then nods and gets the tears out of his eyes Krillin who was hating on him now found pity for Goku
"Tomorrow will train goodnight boys," Roshi said while leaving the room Krillin looked at Goku and says "You got the floor"
[the morning]
Goku and Krillin walk outside both tired and yawning Roshi walks out shortly after "Golu since you know, 'll tell you what you'll be doing You going to do the fieldwork, swimming away from sea beast, weighted turtle shell, and a lesson at the end of the day"
Goku excited and Krillin annoyed both say "Yes master" as they run off to go train
[night]
Both Goku and Krillin were panting, clearly exhausted. "Seems like you two went through some tough training," Roshi remarked with a knowing smile. Knowing that Goku and Krillin's rivalry was pushing them
They all made their way inside, where Roshi had prepared a massive feast for everyone. As they dug in, Roshi turned to Goku and said, "Goku, I haven't told you this before, but I want you to hear it now. And Krillin, even though I've said it to you already, you both must remember these words: 'Work hard, study well, and eat and sleep plenty! That is the Turtle Hermit way!'"
