Chapter 29: 29. Support
Why?!
Why did he eat that cursed fruit?
Aren't Logia fruits supposed to be powerful?!
So why couldn't he even hold a sword now?!
"Kehehehe… Marines just a bunch of self-righteous weaklings!"
A harsh, grating voice rang out.
Smoker tried to steady his racing heartbeat, watching the pirate savagely stabbing his squad leader's lifeless body.
The pirate noticed him and started walking over!
It's over!
Smoker tried to run, but his legs suddenly turned to smoke, causing his upper body to crash heavily to the ground.
"Oh? A Logia user? That's rare! Too bad it got wasted on you!"
The pirate sneered, laughing as he raised his long blade and swung it down hard.
Clang!
The expected pain didn't come.
Lying on the ground, Smoker looked up to see his ship's captain, Martin, blocking the blade meant for him!
But the blow had cut into Martin from his chest down to his abdomen, forcing a pained grunt as he staggered back.
"Kehehehe! When our boss said we'd ambush the Marines, I was skeptical. But he was right, you Marines are nothing but trash!"
The pirate laughed, raising his blade to strike again, this time aimed directly at Martin's neck.
Thankfully, Martin narrowly dodged, and the blade's energy slashed through the cabin behind him, leaving a huge gap.
So, this is the power of a Supernova pirate crew?
Even a strong captain like Martin can't…
Despair filled Smoker's heart.
"Smoker, keep watching!"
A familiar voice jolted him, and he looked up.
Captain Martin had taken a bold step forward, using his left arm to block the pirate's blade head-on.
The sharp edge embedded itself in his bone, and bright red blood trickled down the pirate's blade.
The pirate tried to pull the sword free, but Martin twisted his arm to trap the blade in place.
Then, with a swift strike, he decapitated the pirate!
Ignoring his wounds, Martin turned and shouted at Smoker, "We Marines don't back down!!"
His voice echoed across the ship, blending with the booming thunder overhead.
Smoker's pupils contracted, and he felt the blood in his veins surge.
But in the next moment, a heart-wrenching scene unfolded before him.
Unnoticed, another pirate had crept up behind Captain Martin, his clawed weapon inches from Martin's neck!
"Watch out!"
Boom!!!
As Smoker screamed desperately, Captain Martin didn't fall.
Instead, the pirate was sent flying like a cannonball, kicked away.
"Well said, Marines aren't cowards."
A voice, calm yet warm, sounded.
In a flash of lightning, Smoker saw him.
An unfamiliar young man lowered his raised leg.
His cloak billowed in the sea breeze, with the word "Justice" embroidered across the back.
"39th Branch, Personal Guard of Lieutenant Commander Gion, Marsh, reporting for support."
Time rewinds to twenty minutes earlier.
Marsh squinted at the increasingly dark sky, frowning.
It was obvious that a storm was coming.
On this vast sea, only a monster like Aokiji could travel unaffected by nature's power.
Luckily, a few large ships flying the Marine insignia seemed to be approaching nearby.
Marsh was overjoyed; it looked like he could catch a ride!
But suddenly, a fleet of camouflaged pirate ships appeared, surrounding the Marine warships!
Without a word, they opened fire!
In moments, two Marine ships had already been sunk!
Good grief!
Were pirates in this era really so ruthless?
They even dared to ambush Marines?!
But Marsh wasn't one to abandon fellow Marines in need!
He securely fastened the box to his back, frantically paddling his small boat until he was about 500 meters from the battlefield.
With a mighty jump, he launched himself off the boat, shattering it beneath his feet.
His figure shot forward like an arrow!
Before he even touched down, he could hear Captain Martin's defiant roar!
And that brought him to this very moment.
As one of the Navy's fastest-rising female officers, Gion's reputation was well-known to Captain Martin.
When he heard that Marsh was there as support from Gion's unit, he was overjoyed!
But after a quick look around, all he saw were his fleet's remaining ships. No additional ships were in sight.
"Uh…" Marsh saw Martin looking expectantly past him and understood immediately. Scratching his head, he explained, "There's no need to look. The support unit is just me."
Huh?
Captain Martin was stunned.
One person?
Could this man have the strength of an admiral?
