Chapter 66: Chapter 66: The Rumble-Rumble Fruit Secured
Karl ordered Belle-Mère and Kuro to split up and expand the search area.
The surrounding sea was vast, but shipwrecks washed ashore by misfortune were relatively few—only about a dozen vessels in total. The two quickly completed their search.
Meanwhile, Karl surveyed the area, observing the environment.
"This is indeed a Sky Island," Karl murmured to himself. "But this location doesn't appear in the original story. And there's not a soul in sight. It seems this is one of the outlying, deserted edges of the Sky Islands."
As Karl continued to expand his observation range, he soon located the boundary of the White Sea. Upon noting the scene, he recorded the location using a log pose.
At that moment, the sound of a Den Den Mushi broke the silence.
"Any discoveries?" Karl asked.
"Karl-sama, we've found a Devil Fruit and a boy who looks to be about 16 or 17!"
"A boy? Here?"
Hearing Kuro's voice, Karl frowned and immediately thought of the young Enel from the original series.
"Stay where you are. I'll be there shortly," Karl instructed before hanging up and flying toward their location.
Moments later, Karl arrived to find Kuro and Belle-Mère standing over a bound Enel.
"Detected: Enel. Signing-in available!"
It really was Enel!
Karl furrowed his brow as he approached Kuro.
"What's the situation with this kid? How did you come across him?" Karl asked.
"We were searching for the Devil Fruit when he suddenly jumped out and attacked me. So, I subdued him," Kuro replied, adjusting his mask.
Enel's face was filled with anger as he struggled fiercely against his restraints, his movements so violent that his skin began to chafe and bleed.
"Release me at once! You despicable Blue Sea dwellers! Let me go, or I'll kill you all!"
"Let him go," Karl said calmly. "He's just a child—there's no need to be so cautious."
Kuro nodded and untied Enel. Belle-Mère, meanwhile, held up a Devil Fruit.
"Karl-sama, what kind of Devil Fruit is this?"
"This should be the Rumble-Rumble Fruit. I remember seeing its shape in the Devil Fruit Encyclopedia back at Marine Headquarters," Karl replied.
"That's mine! You thieving Blue Sea scum! Give it back to me!" Enel shouted as he lunged for the fruit.
But at this stage of his life, Enel was weak, far from the god-like figure he would later become. Without the power of the Rumble-Rumble Fruit, he was no match even for an average Marine. Escaping Kuro's grasp was out of the question.
"Kuro, the Rumble-Rumble Fruit is yours," Karl declared. "Don't forget the task I assigned you."
"As for this boy," Karl continued, "I'll train him personally before sending him to Marine Headquarters for further development."
Karl shot a glance at Enel and released a wave of Conqueror's Haki, instantly knocking him unconscious.
At this point, Enel was so physically frail that his combat power was effectively zero. The Conqueror's Haki not only rendered him unconscious but would likely leave a lasting psychological impression.
Leaving Belle-mère to care for the unconscious Enel, Karl watched as Kuro consumed the Devil Fruit.
The moment Kuro swallowed the fruit, his body convulsed, and arcs of electricity began to crackle around him. He grimaced as he forced the fruit down, but moments later, he raised his hand and summoned a massive bolt of lightning, obliterating the remnants of nearby shipwrecks into ash.
Ecstatic, Kuro took to the skies, transforming into lightning and flying freely through the air.
"So this is the power of the Rumble-Rumble Fruit! It's incredible!" Kuro exclaimed, overwhelmed by excitement.
Through the fruit's inherent electric waves, Kuro could sense movements within a kilometer radius, though his Observation Haki had not yet awakened.
Karl explained, "Observation Haki requires innate talent. Enel's massive range was a result of his natural gift, amplified by the Rumble-Rumble Fruit."
Although Kuro had yet to unlock Observation Haki, his newfound sensory abilities signaled he was close to awakening it. With diligent training, it would soon manifest.
"Karl-sama," Kuro asked, his confidence swelling, "do you think I'm stronger than Smoker now?"
"Honestly," Karl replied, "Logia users without Haki are hard to compare in terms of strength. But remember, no matter how powerful your Devil Fruit is, Haki is the foundation. Don't neglect your Haki training."
"Understood!" Kuro said, then resumed practicing his new powers.
Half an hour later, Kuro returned, exhausted and drenched in sweat.
"The Devil Fruit drains so much stamina! My physical strength is still too weak. I need to train harder," Kuro lamented.
"You're still young," Karl reassured him. "Your body is still growing, so it's natural for your energy consumption to be high. For your age, you're already far stronger than most. When I was your age, I didn't have the strength you do now."
Noticing the time, Karl said, "Let's take a tour of Sky Island before we leave."
He led Kuro and Belle-mère to explore the Sky Island, showing them its breathtaking wonders and introducing them to its residents. They even ventured to the island of God and discovered the Golden Bell and the city of Shandora.
Karl paid little attention to the Poneglyph beneath the bell, as he had no interest in the Void Century's history. The Golden Bell itself, however, piqued his curiosity. He struck it twice, producing a powerful, resonant chime.
The sound of the bell alerted Gan Fall, the current "god" of Sky Island, who rushed to investigate. But by the time he arrived, Karl and his crew had already left, leaving only the bell swinging and echoing its majestic tone.
Meanwhile, on the Blue Sea, Mont Blanc Cricket of the Saruyama Alliance wept tears of joy.
"So the legend is true. The Golden Bell has finally rung…"
