The Den Den Mushi was quickly answered.
The colonel immediately reported, "Fleet Admiral Sengoku, this is the colonel serving under Vice Admiral Akainu. At present, Akainu is engaging a cloaked monster in battle."
"Is it that mysterious figure?" Sengoku inquired.
"No, sir. The mysterious figure is observing from a distance. This cloaked individual is built like a small mountain!"
"In other words, there are two of them now! And Akainu—this reckless fool—charged in without proper intel?!" Sengoku's voice grew tense.
When Sengoku had assigned Akainu to this mission, he had been reluctant. He feared Akainu's extreme adherence to justice would lead to reckless actions. Thus, he had stressed caution multiple times. Yet, as always, Akainu acted on his own impulses.
"What's the current status of the battle?" Sengoku asked sharply.
The colonel glanced at the sky, responding, "Vice Admiral Akainu seems determined to end the fight quickly, but the opponent's recovery ability is astonishing. No matter how severe the injuries inflicted, they heal almost instantly!"
Hearing this, Sengoku's frustration boiled over at Marineford. The news of two cloaked individuals—possibly an organization—made the situation even more precarious. The fragile table in front of him bore the brunt of his anger, splintering under his fist.
"That idiot! I explicitly warned him not to act recklessly! Is he trying to ignite chaos right in front of their stronghold?" Sengoku muttered through gritted teeth.
Meanwhile, Akainu was finding himself increasingly frustrated. Despite undergoing hellish training that had significantly enhanced his power—so much so that he believed himself nearly on par with Roja—he was hitting a wall. Weevil's absurd regeneration and seemingly endless stamina made every effort futile.
For Akainu, retreat was never an option. Justice could not falter in the face of evil! Yet Sengoku had a very different perspective.
"I'm granting you operational command," Sengoku instructed the colonel, "Prepare for immediate retreat. And make it clear to Akainu: he is to withdraw immediately. Leave O'Hara for now!"
With that, Sengoku abruptly ended the call, his headache intensifying. The implications of multiple cloaked figures and a potential organization behind them were dire, especially with the navy already stretched thin in the chaotic New World. Worse, Akainu's impulsive actions had further tarnished the navy's fragile reputation, which Roja had already battered in recent times.
"Akainu! That man causes more harm than good!" Sengoku growled.
On the Battlefield
The naval forces near O'Hara began organizing an orderly retreat. However, Akainu, locked in combat high above, noticed this development. Freshly bruised from Weevil's powerful blows, his simmering temper finally erupted.
"Deserters!" he roared. "Anyone retreating will be executed under military law!"
At this, the captain of the warship couldn't hold back any longer. Summoning all his courage, he yelled, "With all due respect, sir, you violated military orders first! Furthermore, Fleet Admiral Sengoku has transferred operational command to me. I now order you to retreat immediately!"
The soldiers on the warships froze for a moment before bursting into applause. They had endured enough of Akainu's autocratic behavior, and witnessing a subordinate openly chastise him was beyond anything they could have imagined.
Even Roja, watching from afar with Robin and Olvia, couldn't help but smirk at the unfolding drama.
Olvia chuckled and teased, "Roja, is this what your navy looks like behind the scenes?"
Roja shrugged. "Sengoku's plan might have been sound, but he underestimated Akainu's temperament. Akainu's been itching for this opportunity, so it was inevitable he'd go rogue. This fiasco is entirely on him."
Robin giggled, her eyebrows arching playfully. "But isn't it entertaining? At least for us."
Roja nodded, his tone light. "Indeed, it's quite the spectacle. Still, we shouldn't let them leave empty-handed. After all, I'm technically on the opposite side of the navy now."
With that, Roja unsheathed his blade, Ruhuo, as flames began to dance along its edge.
"Weevil, fall back," Roja ordered, his voice low and commanding.
Hearing the order, Weevil immediately broke off from the fight, ignoring Akainu's magma-laden strikes, which left superficial wounds that quickly regenerated.
Akainu's gaze darkened as Weevil retreated. But before he could process what was happening, an overwhelming surge of energy locked onto him. Danger flooded his senses.
The cloaked figure, Roja, radiated an immense, fiery spiritual pressure that pressed down like a tidal wave. The air itself seemed to ignite under the force of his presence.
Akainu clenched his teeth, blood seeping from the corners of his mouth as he endured the weight of Roja's aura. His body trembled involuntarily.
"His Haki… it's even stronger than before!" Akainu realized, his mind racing. For all his training and growth, this opponent had advanced just as much—if not more.
But Akainu refused to yield. His principles would not allow it. If he had to die, he would do so standing tall.
"Awakened ability—Meteor Volcano!" Akainu roared, his voice echoing through the battlefield.
The skies darkened as his Devil Fruit powers awakened fully. The atmosphere ignited into fiery clouds, and massive molten fists rained down like meteors, their intense heat distorting the very air.
The retreating naval forces stared in awe and horror.
"This is insane!" one soldier gasped. "A full-scale attack with this kind of destructive power?!"
"Look at those lava fists—each one feels like a death sentence!" another added.
"Maybe Akainu really can take on both of them!" a third speculated.
The soldiers, far enough from the battlefield to avoid Roja's suppressive aura, could only marvel at Akainu's display of power.
But on the ground, Roja's smirk deepened as he whispered, "Show's over."
The flames around him began to subside as he raised Ruhuo, preparing to deliver his own response to Akainu's futile display of strength.
