Chapter 25: Vivi Is A Soceress?
"Everyone, take a comfortable position and sit in lotus pose," Lucius said as he sat down in front of his students. Like an elementary school teacher about to start a fun lesson, he smiled at their curious faces.
Even Luffy managed to cross his legs properly, though he kept fidgeting as everyone settled into position on the dojo floor.
Before starting the lesson, Lucius quickly checked his options.

"First, we need to understand what mana feels like," Lucius explained, his voice taking on that special tone teachers use when introducing something exciting. "Close your eyes and focus on your breathing - not just normal breathing, but trying to feel the air around you."
The group followed his instructions, though some more reluctantly than others. Luffy's face scrunched up in concentration while Usopp kept peeking to see if anyone else was feeling anything. Nami and Vivi took the meditation seriously, their postures perfect.
But Zoro's frown was impossible to miss. His eyes might have been closed, but his entire body radiated disapproval.
"Something bothering you, Zoro?" Lucius asked, though he already knew the answer.
Zoro opened his eyes, his expression serious. "This feels wrong. Magic tricks and spells? Real warriors rely on their own strength, not external powers."
Instead of arguing, Lucius walked to the weapon rack that had materialized nearby. His hand moved with purpose, selecting a practice sword that seemed to resonate with the dojo's energy.
"Remember what we learned about swords having their own existence?" Lucius said as blue mana began wrapping around the blade. "Their own rhythm, their own way of moving through the world?"
The ethereal energy flowed like water along the blade, not covering it but becoming one with it, just as Zoro had learned to feel the steel's natural harmonies.

"Watch carefully," Lucius said as he faced a row of enchanted training dummies. These weren't the normal steel ones - they had a slight shimmer to them, clearly designed to test magical attacks.
Taking the stance for Path of Severance, Lucius let his mana merge with the technique. The blue aura around the sword intensified, following the same lines of force Zoro had learned to sense.
One motion. That's all it took.
For several seconds, nothing seemed to happen. The dummies stood perfectly still. Then, like a delayed reaction in an action movie, their top halves slowly slid off. The cuts were so clean they followed the natural separation points in the enchanted material.
But Lucius wasn't done. Channeling the newly purchased technique, he let fire manifest along the sword's length. The flames didn't impose themselves on the blade - they emerged from within it, like another aspect of its natural existence.
"This is Elemental Imbuement," Lucius explained as the fire transformed into crackling lightning. "Just as you learned to feel where steel wants to be cut, magic is about understanding the elements that exist in all things."
The lightning became ice, coating the blade in frost crystals that formed perfect patterns. Then earth energy made the sword resonate with stone's ancient strength. Light energy revealed the blade's purest essence.
"A sword isn't a tool," Lucius continued, letting the elements fade. "It has its own existence, its own way of being. Magic is the same - it's not about forcing power you don't deserve. It's about awakening what already exists within you, finding its natural rhythm just like you found the steel's."
Zoro's expression remained thoughtful, his eyes following every movement of the enchanted sword. The way the elements flowed reminded him of how the steel had sung to him during his breakthrough with Path of Severance.
"Now then," Lucius said, returning to his teaching position. "Let's begin properly. Mana flows through everything like air, but most people never learn to feel it. Think of it like the rhythm you feel in steel - invisible but always present."
He guided them through special breathing exercises, teaching them to draw in what he called "pure air" - breaths that contained traces of magical energy.
"Each breath should feel different," Lucius explained. "Regular air fills your lungs. Pure air resonates with something deeper - like a second heart made of light."
"A second heart?" Nami asked, her analytical mind already working on understanding the concept.
"Exactly. Just like how a sword has its own existence, we all have a place inside us where mana naturally gathers. The more you practice breathing pure air, the stronger this mana core becomes."
But after three hours of trying, frustration was clear on most faces. Luffy had given up his proper posture and was lying on his back, staring at the ceiling. Usopp's shoulders slumped with disappointment.
"I can't feel anything different," Usopp sighed. "Just regular breathing."
"Maybe there's a trick to it?" Luffy sat up, scratching his head.
Looking at their tired expressions, Lucius realized he might need to adjust his approach. This wasn't like the Six Powers where results showed quickly through physical training.
"Everyone take a break," Lucius suggested. "I need to finish writing some instruction manuals anyway. Just like how the steel taught you its own way of being cut, mana will teach you its own way of flowing. You can't force understanding."
The hidden meaning in his words - that they might have to continue practicing without him - wasn't lost on the group. But before anyone could comment, Vivi spoke up.
"I'd like to keep trying," she said, her meditation pose unchanged since they started.
Lucius nodded, recognizing that same quiet determination he'd seen when teaching his best students. As the others filed out, he sat down across from Vivi.
"Close your eyes again," he instructed. "But this time, don't try to force anything. Feel how the air changes in different parts of the dojo, just like how a sword's balance shifts as you move it."
For the next several hours, Lucius guided Vivi through increasingly subtle awareness exercises. He explained how mana gathered naturally in certain places, how it responded to intention and emotion, just like how steel responded to a swordsman's understanding.
The sun had moved significantly across the sky when Vivi suddenly gasped.
"There's something!" Her eyes stayed closed but her expression lit up. "Like... like a warm current in the air?"
"That's it!" Lucius leaned forward excitedly. "Now try to follow that current. See where it wants to go, don't try to force it."
Vivi's face showed intense concentration as she tracked the sensation. "It's everywhere, but it seems drawn to my chest..."
"Perfect - that's where your mana core wants to form. Let that warmth gather naturally, like water finding its lowest point."
The process took another hour, but Vivi never lost focus. Finally, she opened her eyes. For just a moment, a faint blue glow surrounded her hands before fading away.
"I can feel it," she whispered, touching her chest where the mana core had formed. "Like having a second heartbeat, but made of light instead of blood."
The others had returned from their break to find their friend surrounded by that brief magical aura. They rushed over, excitement clear in their voices as they asked questions and offered congratulations.
Vivi tried to explain the sensation while Lucius watched with a mixture of pride and sadness. He still needed to finish those instruction manuals - books that would have to teach them everything about Fireball, Protego, Expelliarmus, and now Elemental Imbuement too.
His students gradually returned to their regular training - Zoro practicing his enhanced cutting technique with new understanding, Sanji working on Moon Walk, Nami perfecting Paper Art. But now they had a new goal too. Even if they couldn't feel mana yet, they'd seen it was possible.
Lucius settled at his desk, beginning work on the manuals while keeping an eye on his students. They only had two days left, but he'd make sure they had everything they needed to continue growing stronger.
Magic had opened up new possibilities, new ways for them to protect what mattered, all building on the foundational truths they'd already learned about finding natural harmonies in unexpected places.
People were waiting for his students to arrive to save them. They'd need every advantage, every technique, every natural power they could master.
Lucius picked up his pen and began writing faster. There was still so much to teach, and so little time remaining.
But looking at Vivi practicing with her newly awakened mana core, at the others training with renewed determination, he knew they'd find their way. They always did.
That was just the kind of students they were.
