Chapter 2: Chapter 2: For World Peace
The rain continued to pour, and the wind howled fiercely, resembling an untamed buffalo.
A group of people in dark coats moved swiftly through the chaos. The devastation surrounding them was horrifying, yet such sights had become commonplace to them.
"The pirates have left."
"These monsters aren't human."
"Search for survivors."
"Leader, we found someone—a child. He's alive but unconscious."
The man with a stern face, his black hair flowing like a waterfall down his back, nodded. His striking feature—lack of eyebrows—made him stand out even more.
"Good. When he wakes up, we'll ask him which pirates were responsible."
Monkey D. Dragon pressed his temples, exhaling heavily. He had witnessed countless massacres like this, but each scene still unsettled him deeply.
"Chief, here's his information."
A soldier handed Dragon a document.
Name: Cuculo Karen
Age: 17
Address: Sriri Town
Suddenly, Karen jolted awake, screaming in terror and gasping for air. His body was drenched in cold sweat, his mind replaying the horrifying scene he had just witnessed. In his nightmare, a pirate named Scott had ruthlessly dismembered him, and the fear was so intense it pulled him out of unconsciousness.
A soldier standing guard noticed the commotion. He entered the tent, handed Karen a glass of water, and said gently, "You're awake. Drink some water." Without waiting for a reply, he turned and left.
Moments later, a man entered—serious-faced, eyebrowless. Karen immediately recognized him.
Monkey D. Dragon.
The world knew him as "the most dangerous criminal," the leader of the Revolutionary Army, fighting to overthrow the World Government—a coalition of over 170 nations.
"How are you feeling?" Dragon asked, looking at the young man with an intensity that suggested familiarity.
"I'm fine," Karen replied, masking his nervousness with a sip of water.
"Where am I? What happened to the town? Did you catch the pirates?" he asked in rapid succession.
Dragon patiently walked closer, crouching to meet Karen's gaze.
"You're in a temporary shelter. The town... it's gone," Dragon admitted, exhaling heavily. "As for the pirates, they were gone by the time we arrived."
Karen didn't respond with anger or disappointment. His eyes grew hollow, his expression lifeless.
"I see. That's good. It gives me a chance to avenge them myself."
"My grandfather—where is he?"
Dragon hesitated. "We couldn't identify the bodies. They were too mangled. We cremated them and buried the remains in a shared cemetery."
"I understand," Karen said, his voice chillingly calm.
"You're Marines, right? I want to join the Marines."
Karen knew they weren't Marines, but joining the Revolutionary Army wasn't an option—not yet.
"For revenge?" Dragon asked.
Karen hesitated before replying solemnly, "For world peace."
Dragon studied Karen closely. The phrase "world peace" resonated deeply with him. Slowly, he rose to his feet.
"Does it have to be the Marines?"
Karen pretended confusion. "What do you mean? Aren't you Marines?"
"We're the Revolutionary Army," Dragon explained. "We fight to overthrow the World Government."
"Do you fight pirates?" Karen asked.
Dragon fell silent. The Revolutionary Army sometimes aided islands ravaged by pirates, but their primary mission was to challenge the World Government—not eliminate pirates.
Karen nodded, expecting this response. He wasn't worried about being pressured into joining them. All he needed was a reasonable excuse to decline.
"Then I can't join you. Not now."
Dragon didn't push further. "Very well. If you ever lose faith in the Marines, you're welcome to join us."
"It's a deal."
Karen sat up, regaining his composure. He wasn't physically injured—the shock of the massacre, combined with intense vomiting and his system activation, had only left him temporarily weakened.
"Do you know Scott?"
"The Blade Pirates?" a soldier nearby chimed in. "Scott is their first mate. They're a ruthless group of swordsmen. Their captain's bounty is 45 million, and Scott himself is worth 32 million."
Karen processed this information. A 32-million bounty was significant. For comparison, Straw Hat Luffy's first bounty after defeating Arlong had been 30 million, and Arlong had ruled over a town for years.
Karen clenched his fists. The odds were overwhelming, but he had a system—one he was confident would change his fate.
Dorag soon departed, his departure as swift as his arrival. As a revolutionary, he couldn't remain on the island for long, especially one devastated by pirates. The World Government would eagerly blame the Revolutionary Army for such atrocities if discovered.
Before leaving, Dorag ensured Karen had supplies: food, a small boat, and a letter.
For the Revolutionary Army, fighting the World Government took precedence. To the government, they were far more dangerous than any pirate crew.
