One Piece: My Name is Jack, I'm Very Resistant to Beating

Chapter 88: Chapter 88: Experimenting with Abilities

When Jack woke up again, he had no idea how many days had passed. Seeing the crew guarding him, a small warmth stirred in his heart.

He glanced down at the thick bandages wrapped tightly around his chest and struggled to sit up.

"Urgh…"

That small movement was enough to send sharp pains through his entire body, making him feel as if he'd been shattered into pieces.

"Uncle Jack! You're awake!"

"I'll go get Master!"

Ulti, startled awake by Jack's groan, lit up with excitement when she saw him moving. Without waiting, she bolted out of the room.

"I'm only fourteen!" Jack called out weakly, his voice laced with indignation. Uncle? What kind of nonsense is this?

"Ah, got it, Jack," Page One said cheerily. "Don't move around too much yet, okay? Just lie back and rest. Master said your injuries were really severe, and you can't afford to mess around for at least a month."

Page One's tone was so gentle, it felt like he was coaxing a child. Jack couldn't help but feel a bit dejected. What's with these two?

"Jack-sama! You're awake!"

Master and Rim came rushing in, clearly panicked when they heard the news. Master, without hesitation, began thoroughly examining Jack, her expression finally softening after a while.

"Jack-sama," she said gently, "your injuries were extremely serious. Several organs sustained damage, your lungs were particularly affected, and two ribs were broken."

"However, your recovery ability is incredible. I used my powers to clear the internal bruising, and as long as you rest properly for two months, you shouldn't have any lasting damage."

Jack's worried gaze shifted to his chest, prompting Master to reassure him quickly:

"Don't worry, Jack-sama! My powers ensure you won't be left with scars."

"Tch! Do I look like someone who cares about scars?" Jack scoffed, clearly unimpressed. "What I'm worried about is whether my muscles will lose their symmetry! Get it?"

Once it was clear Jack didn't need constant monitoring, Ulti reluctantly dragged Page One back to their room. Jack, on the other hand, felt a pang of guilt. He got teary-eyed, thinking, I was way too harsh on them last time. I've got to fix this temper of mine. How could I hit such well-behaved kids?

As they returned to their room, Page One asked, confused, "Hey, sis, why did you make me stay and watch over Jack for the past couple of days?"

"Shhh…"

"Little Pei, how can you be so clueless?" Ulti sighed, opening the door slightly to check for eavesdroppers before lowering her voice.

"Didn't you hear what Father said? Even though he and Kaido-sama are on good terms, the Beasts Pirates operate on strength above all else! Kaido-sama's too busy to take care of us every day. You've seen how those underlings act, haven't you?"

"If Kaido-sama left us with this guy Jack, it means he's going to be responsible for us from now on!"

"This guy, Jack—he's only fourteen but already this strong. Plus, he's a half-fishman like us! If we stay on his good side, nobody will dare mess with us."

"Didn't you notice how the fishmen treat Jack? They practically worship him!"

Page One's expression shifted into one of realization. Seeing this, Ulti's doting instincts kicked in, and she pounced on him, wrapping her arms around his neck.

"Little Pei! You're still so young. Don't worry. I'll protect you forever!"

"Ugh… Sis! Let go! I can't breathe—cough, cough!"

Thanks to his near-immortal resilience and awakened Zoan fruit powers, Jack's body had completely healed in less than two weeks.

Even Master, who prided herself on her medical expertise, doubted her eyes. Jack himself was astonished. That much of my chest got blown away, and it all grew back in two weeks? Shouldn't there at least be a dent?

His mind wandered. If this monstrous healing ability works for something like that… would it also work if someone cut off my—

Jack quickly dismissed the thought. Focusing instead on his strange recovery, he began piecing it together. The system's power classifications were broad—only five tiers with no finer subdivisions.

For instance, even though Ashura Doji had advanced Ryuo, he could only use it for big, flashy attacks. Meanwhile, Shanks seamlessly integrated it into every strike. Clearly, even abilities like Ryuo varied greatly in potency.

Jack's mastery of Ryuo came with vivid techniques in his mind, ones that likely rivaled or even surpassed Shanks. Combined with his awakened Zoan form, his mammoth transformation had become absurdly huge—over twenty meters tall, practically monstrous. That wasn't normal.

His swordsmanship, too, was at such a high level that wielding a club allowed him to unleash elemental slashes and advanced techniques with ease. No beginner swordsman could pull that off.

Everything pointed to one conclusion: the system granted him abilities at the absolute peak of their tier.

Jack decided to test this theory. If his Conqueror's Haki were as advanced as his other skills, he'd find out by comparing it to Yamato's.

He walked onto the deck, where a group of crewmates were fishing and sunbathing. Focusing his will, Jack tried to unleash his Conqueror's Haki… but nothing happened.

Confused, he thought back to the times Yamato had unleashed hers. Wait a second… she only ever used it after I hit her—on the butt?

No way… Is my Conqueror's Haki locked behind spanking?! That's insane! How am I supposed to unlock it? Ask someone to spank me?

As Jack was lost in thought, a sweet fragrance wafted past him. He turned to see Master carrying a fruit platter toward Rim and the siblings. Her swaying hips caught his attention just as she teasingly pinched Rim's backside.

A wave of nausea swept over Jack.

"BOOM!"

A sudden surge of energy burst from him, accompanied by a deafening hum.

"AHHH!"

"CRASH!"

"That's… Conqueror's Haki!"

"Splash!"

"Ulti! Page One! Jump in and save them!"

"Splash!"

The powerful wave of Haki knocked Ulti and Page One unconscious, causing them to tumble into the sea. Rim and Master were too shocked to react in time, leaving Master to kick Rim into the water after them.

Most of the crew on deck felt an inexplicable fear wash over them, with a few collapsing onto the floor in a panic. The commotion even drew people out of the cabins, all of them staring wide-eyed at Jack.

Jack blinked at the dozens of dumbfounded faces staring at him, equally confused.

"Well… today's been fun," he muttered with a nervous grin.
