Chapter 94: Identity Exposed
Everything was proceeding smoothly—Roger actually paid for the supplies.
Craig accepted the money with trembling hands.
This was the first time he had encountered pirates like this.
Instead of feeling relieved, he became even more nervous.
For decades, pirates had always been seen as ruthless criminals.
So, even though Roger and his crew were being polite, Craig and his men felt no gratitude—only the overwhelming relief of surviving a near-death encounter.
Just as Roger and his crew were about to leave, a clear, youthful voice rang out from the Oro Jackson.
"Captain! There's a Marine on that ship!"
The atmosphere instantly froze.
Jon's expression stiffened.
Roger abruptly turned around, looking surprised.
"A Marine?"
Up on the Oro Jackson, a red-haired boy, about ten years old, leaned over the railing and shouted toward Roger.
"Yes, Captain! There's a Marine on that ship!"
In a flash, Roger disappeared from sight, reappearing on the Oro Jackson—and the next moment, he jumped back onto the merchant ship, bringing the red-haired boy with him.
Roger turned to the red-haired boy and asked:
"Shanks, you said there's a Marine on this ship? Who is it?"
Jon's heart dropped when he saw the boy's face.
His memory was sharp—he immediately recognized the kid.
That's the boy I met in the West Blue back then!
Wait—this kid is actually Shanks?!
Shanks pointed directly at Jon.
"It's him! He's the Marine!"
"You've got to be kidding me..."
Jon felt the urge to strangle Shanks on the spot.
I was this close to getting away, and then you had to open your damn mouth?!
All eyes immediately turned to Jon—not just Roger and his crew, but also Craig and his men.
Roger spoke up.
"You're a Marine?"
Jon opened his mouth, but for a moment, he didn't know what to say.
Before he could respond, Shanks spoke again.
"Captain, I saw him in the West Blue before! He was wearing a Marine uniform, and I saw him create tons of trees! He must be a really strong Marine!"
Shanks had never forgotten Jon—he and his friends had witnessed Jon's abilities firsthand.
So even after so much time had passed, he immediately recognized him.
Jon's heart sank completely.
I can't believe that one moment of carelessness back then led to this…
Who could have expected that one of the kids he met in the West Blue would turn out to be a future Yonko—Red-Haired Shanks?!
Even worse—he had escaped Whitebeard, only to get exposed by a brat.
Jon was shocked when, instead of staying silent, Craig suddenly stepped forward to defend him.
"You must be mistaken, sirs! Josh isn't a Marine—he's one of my crew!"
Jon was genuinely surprised.
This same big-bearded captain had been too terrified to speak in front of Whitebeard—but now, he was standing up for him.
Roger, however, chuckled.
"Whether he's a Marine or not isn't up to you."
He then narrowed his eyes, examining Jon closely, before suddenly asking:
"Two years ago… we ran into each other, didn't we?"
Jon knew there was no point in denying it anymore.
He sighed and smiled bitterly.
"Captain Roger, you sure have a good memory."
Roger grinned.
"I never forget interesting people. That day, I remember it well—you nearly destroyed our ship from miles away!"
Hearing Roger's words, several of the Roger Pirates suddenly recalled an incident from over two years ago.
That time, they had clashed with a Marine test fleet and fought Garp.
Although Garp didn't manage to capture them, their pirate ship had suffered severe damage—not from cannon fire, but from mysterious trees that had appeared out of nowhere.
At the time, they had deduced that it had been caused by a Marine on one of the warships.
Suddenly—
"SHING!"
In an instant, several Roger Pirates drew their weapons, their eyes filled with hostility as they glared at Jon.
Being stared down by a group of legendary pirates made Jon feel incredibly uneasy—but there was no way out.
Even if he jumped into the ocean, he wouldn't be able to escape.
"Josh… you're really a Marine?"
Craig still couldn't believe it.
The thought that Jon was actually a Marine was too shocking for him to process.
Jon sighed, then nodded.
"Yeah. I'm a Marine. Sorry for keeping it from you."
He had to admit, Craig had been good to him—Jon was grateful.
Craig opened his mouth as if to say something but then stopped, finally understanding why Jon had refused Whitebeard's invitation.
A Marine would never become a pirate.
And now that he had fallen into Roger's hands, Jon's chances of survival were slim.
"Captain! This guy's a Marine! Let me kill him!"
Suddenly, Barrett stepped forward, eyes filled with murderous intent.
Despite being just a teenager, Barrett was already a battle-hardened pirate—and his strength was terrifying.
In the Roger Pirates, only Roger himself could defeat him.
Even Rayleigh had only ever fought him to a draw—though whether Rayleigh had ever gone all out was unclear.
Before Roger could respond, Barrett attacked first—moving at blinding speed.
Jon was caught off guard—he hadn't expected Barrett to attack without warning.
By the time he realized it, Barrett was already upon him.
With no time to think, Jon activated his Devil Fruit ability, summoning a wooden shield in front of him.
BOOM!
Barrett's fist shattered the wooden shield instantly, and his attack kept coming.
Jon's heart pounded—he immediately jumped back while activating Armament Haki.
"Armament!"
His right arm transformed, resembling the wooden giant fists he had used before—now coated in black Haki.
BOOM!
Their fists collided, creating a massive shockwave that rocked the entire merchant ship.
Jon staggered backward a few steps, staring at Barrett in shock.
"Who is this kid?!"
Barrett looked young, but his raw power was terrifying.
"Barrett… wait—is this the same Barrett from the movie? The one who was imprisoned in Impel Down?!"
Jon suddenly remembered—Rayleigh had called him Barrett earlier.
"Douglas Bullet!"
Jon's expression darkened.
This kid was even younger than him, but his power was monstrous.
If Jon hadn't used both his Devil Fruit and Armament Haki, he would have been injured badly from that punch alone.
