One Piece: My code name is Green Bull

Chapter 9: Chapter 9: The Rebellion Leader Dragon

"Stop!"

Zephyr's voice rang out, and Jon and the others, still running, immediately slowed down and gradually came to a halt.

By this point, fewer than ten people were still standing—only nine remained.

They gathered together slowly, while those who had collapsed earlier, after receiving some medical attention, had regained a bit of strength and also came over to join them.

"That's it for today. Soon, someone will escort you to your assigned dormitories.

This is Marine Headquarters. Without permission, no one is allowed to wander around," Zephyr announced.

This was the first day for Jon and the other recruits at Marine Headquarters.

Zephyr merely wanted to get a sense of them and had not yet planned to begin his actual instruction.

Under the guidance of the instructors, Jon and the others walked a few laps around the area before arriving at a dormitory complex.

As they approached, Jon noticed many others who, like them, wore uniforms distinct from the regular Marine Headquarters soldiers.

These recruits, like them, were also part of this year's intake.

However, there was a difference.

Jon and his group were part of the special recruitment program, whereas these others were regular soldiers conscripted by Marine Headquarters.

Jon's group was brought to a three-story building.

Standing in front of it, Freeman explained, "This will be your residence for the next year. Two people will share each dormitory, and the assignments have already been made.

The list is posted at the entrance—find your room yourself."

"Alright, you're dismissed," Freeman announced.

With that, the atmosphere instantly relaxed.

Everyone grabbed their belongings and rushed to the entrance to check their dorm assignments.

Jon didn't hurry.

He waited for the others to finish before stepping up to take a look. He quickly spotted his name.

"303."

Carrying his single small bag, Jon headed up to the third floor.

When Jon reached Room 303 and pushed the door open, he found someone already inside—a man

over two meters tall, seated in the common area.

"Monkey D. Dragon," the man introduced himself.

"Lyons Jon," Jon responded, introducing himself in turn.

"There are two rooms here. You can pick one," Dragon offered.

Jon glanced around. Although it was a dormitory, the space was quite large, well-furnished, and impeccably clean—definitely a VIP setup. It had everything one might need.

"Alright, thanks. I'll take the one on the left," Jon said without hesitation, pointing to the room on the left.

"Then the other one's mine," Dragon replied with a faint smile.

The two went into their respective rooms to settle in. However, there wasn't much to unpack.

The dormitory was spotless and move-in ready. Jon sat in his room, his thoughts far from calm.

He never expected that his roommate would turn out to be Monkey D. Dragon. He was puzzled.

Though it was his first time meeting Dragon, Jon wasn't unfamiliar with him.

Dragon was the son of the Marine hero Garp, the father of Straw Hat Luffy, the leader of the Revolutionary Army, and one of the world's most infamous figures.

These identities alone spoke volumes about how formidable this man was.

Dragon was absolutely a boss-level figure in the world of *One Piece*.

It was already surprising enough to be in the same cohort as Akainu and Kizaru, but to end up as Dragon's roommate? Based on Dragon's age, he seemed to be around the same as Kizaru.

Yet, as Garp's son, Dragon was still part of this batch of recruits, which left Jon bewildered.

However, judging by Dragon's age, he likely hadn't become the leader of the Revolutionary Army yet.

Perhaps his revolutionary ideals hadn't even been born. Otherwise, he wouldn't still be in the Navy.

"Jon, do you mind if I call you that?"

Jon was pulled from his thoughts by Dragon, who was now standing at his door, looking at him.

"Not at all," Jon replied with a shrug.

"You look exhausted," Dragon observed.

Jon nodded.

"Yeah. Back in the South Sea, I always thought I was pretty strong. But coming here, I realized how naive I was. Compared to you all, I'm way out of my league."

"No, you just haven't mastered your abilities yet," Dragon said.

Jon froze.

"What do you mean by that?"

Dragon smiled faintly.

"During the run earlier, I noticed something. You were clearly on the verge of collapse, yet suddenly, you regained your strength. That's highly unusual. It must be because of your unique ability. So, you're a Devil Fruit user, aren't you?"

Jon replied, "Yes, though I'm not sure exactly what kind of fruit I ate. All I know is that I can control plant growth."

He didn't bother hiding his abilities. After all, they would become apparent soon enough, so there was no harm in admitting it now.

"A plant-based Devil Fruit," Dragon muttered, his expression shifting to one of shock as he looked at Jon. "The situation at the plaza—was that your doing?"

"What?" Jon asked, bewildered. He truly had no idea what Dragon was referring to.

Dragon explained, "When we left, I noticed that all the plants around the plaza had withered. But before we went in, those plants were perfectly healthy."

Jon was taken aback. "You're serious?"

Dragon gave him an odd look. "You didn't know?"

Jon fell silent.

He genuinely hadn't noticed. But if Dragon had seen it, then it must have happened. It seemed highly likely that the withering of the plants was connected to him. But why did it happen?

Jon replayed the events in his mind. He had been puzzled earlier, too. He was completely drained, ready to collapse, but then, out of nowhere, a surge of energy revitalized him.

At the time, he had no idea what caused it. But now, based on Dragon's observation, his sudden recovery was likely linked to the withering plants.

"Voices. Yes, voices. Just before I collapsed, I heard countless voices. They felt so familiar," Jon recalled.

At this thought, his eyes widened in realization. His Observation Haki had been with him since childhood and was exceptionally strong. But what happened at the plaza was different. He had never heard voices like that before.

Familiar and encouraging—they were unlike anything he had experienced before.

It was as if the source of those voices sensed his presence and cheered him on.

Regular Observation Haki could never achieve something like this. It could sense presence but not enable communication.

Jon considered a startling possibility: the voices he heard might have come from the plants around him.

Perhaps the plants sensed his existence, felt a kinship with him, and offered him encouragement.

After he regained his strength, the voices faded away.

"Did they transfer their life energy to me so I could recover?"

The idea was absurd, yet Jon couldn't shake the feeling that it was true.

Having eaten a plant-based Devil Fruit, Jon's own nature had, in some sense, become intertwined with plants. This might explain why his Observation Haki could "hear" them, sense their emotions, and even understand their thoughts.

The very notion was extraordinary, yet somehow, it all made sense.
