Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Yellow Monkey Borrowing Money
"Yo, Jon, still training your Devil Fruit abilities?"
Kizaru pushed open the door and, upon seeing Jon using his abilities, raised an eyebrow and looked around.
"You've got another bunch of plants here, Jon. I think you'd be better off as a gardener, taking care of plants—no one in the world could do it better than you. Why bother being a Marine?"
Jon snorted coldly. This guy's relentless teasing. Recently, he had been using his abilities a lot, but Kizaru just kept mocking him. If it weren't for his current lack of strength, he'd have wiped that smug grin off Kizaru's face.
Kizaru saw Jon stay silent and didn't mind. He walked over and poked one of the plants Jon had created.
"I still don't get what kind of Devil Fruit you ate. Why can you only create these useless plants? They have no offensive power at all."
"You idiot."
Jon cursed in his mind. This was a sensitive topic for him. So far, the only thing he could do was absorb the life force of the plants and restore himself. He hadn't yet found a suitable offensive ability.
He'd tried various attack methods, including transforming his body into trees, but the problem was, he could only make trees a few meters tall at best. Even a surprise attack would be useless in a world where physical capabilities were so overpowered.
Although he had grown a lot since he first ate the fruit and could now create plants up to two meters tall, they still lacked offensive power.
Because of this, Kizaru had mocked him more than once, and it was starting to really annoy him.
"Jon just ate a Devil Fruit not long ago, and he's still figuring out how to use it. It's in the development phase. His abilities aren't strong yet, but who knows what'll happen in the future?" Dragon spoke up in defense of Jon.
Jon snorted, "Did you hear that? That's what a real person sounds like! Kizaru, what's so funny? When you first ate your Devil Fruit, what were you like? Didn't you have to train and develop it to get stronger? This is a process."
Kizaru looked confused. "Really? But when I ate my Devil Fruit, I was already strong. I didn't have to train to get stronger, I just let it happen naturally."
"Get lost!"
Jon cursed loudly. He realized Kizaru was just looking for a fight. No one becomes that strong without training.
"Hehe, just kidding. Don't get mad," Kizaru said with a grin, backing off and sitting next to Jon, putting his arm around Jon's shoulder.
"Today's a rare day off. Why stay cooped up in the dorm? Let's go out for a walk. We've been here in Marineford for so long, but we've never really explored."
"The instructor told us not to wander around."
"Damn, where did you come from, Sakaski?"
Kizaru jumped in surprise. Seeing Jon, he had picked up a few catchphrases. He looked at the suddenly appearing Akainu and asked, "Didn't you go to the training ground? When did you get back?"
Akainu answered indifferently, "I've finished today's training, so I came back. Kizaru, Jon is working hard. Why do you always disturb him?"
Kizaru waved his hand dismissively, showing clear disdain. "I've got no common ground with you training freaks. You've probably trained your brain into mush by now. I'm just trying to show them the outside world, balance work and rest, got it?"
Although Jon was irritated by Kizaru's constant teasing, he couldn't help but feel tempted by the suggestion.
Indeed, they had been at Marineford for more than half a month, and besides the training grounds, classrooms, dorms, and mess hall, they hadn't been anywhere else. Marineford was a huge island, one of the few of its kind in the world, and Jon was eager to see more of it.
Dragon suddenly spoke up, "I've spent some time here at Marineford. If you want to go out, I can show you around."
"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Kizaru exclaimed happily.
After spending some time together, they had all gotten to know each other better, and both Kizaru and Akainu knew that Dragon was Vice Admiral Garp's son.
"You guys go ahead. I'm going to rest," Akainu said before turning to head back to the dorm. But Kizaru immediately grabbed his arm and warned, "Akainu, this is a group activity. You can't break up the group like this. We're all friends, don't drop the ball."
Dragon added, "Yeah, Akainu, we're just going out for a walk, no problem."
Jon also chimed in, "We're going to be here for a long time. We'll have to go out eventually. Since we've got time today, why not take it easy?"
Akainu was serious but not unreasonable. He hesitated for a moment, then finally agreed.
The four of them, wearing Marine training uniforms, left the dorm. With Dragon leading the way, they quickly exited the base. They were stopped a few times for identity checks, but once verified, they were free to go.
"Marineford is indeed more bustling than our side of the world."
Most of Marineford was a Marine base, but in the central area, there were also towns that were quite lively. Most of the people on the streets were Marines and their families. The streets were busy but orderly.
"Jon, we're friends, right?" Kizaru suddenly asked.
Jon instinctively tensed up and asked warily, "What do you want?"
Kizaru gave an awkward grin, his already sleazy face becoming even more so. "Can I borrow some money?"
"Borrow money?" Jon exclaimed in disbelief. "Don't you have money?"
Kizaru looked embarrassed. "If I had money, would I need to borrow from you? Hurry up and lend me some. I need to buy some stuff."
Seeing Kizaru's expectant look, Jon suddenly realized.
He had forgotten that Kizaru was just a new recruit, not the famous Admiral Kizaru from decades later. Of course, he didn't have any money.
"Why ask me? Why don't you ask Akainu or Dragon?"
Kizaru immediately complained, "Akainu's pockets are cleaner than his face, there's no way he'd lend me anything. Dragon's a miser, don't even get me started. We're the closest, and you've got money. Of course, I'll ask you."
"How do you know I have money?" Jon asked, still wary.
"Well, your dad is the branch base commander, so of course you have money," Kizaru said, as though it were obvious.
Jon frowned. "The way you say it, it almost sounds like you think my dad's corrupt."
"You're overthinking it," Kizaru quickly waved it off.
Jon asked, "How much do you want?"
"Start with a million."
"Get lost!"
When Jon left the South Blue, he had brought some money, but he couldn't keep up with Kizaru's constant borrowing.
After some bargaining, Jon ended up lending Kizaru 100,000.
Though 100,000 wasn't much compared to tens of millions or even a billion berries, it could still buy a lot of things. Besides, they were at the Marine base, so they didn't need to buy much. Kizaru was just interested in purchasing some personal items.
