Chapter 590: Secret force!
On the other side.
Across the battlefields of the Holy Land, Mary Geoise.
The ground was littered with corpses, blood flowing like rivers.
Countless bodies were scattered everywhere—those of the World Government, the Revolutionary Army, giants, marines, and even the once high-and-mighty Celestial Dragons.
Burning buildings, blood-stained weapons scattered on the ground, and the constant sound of explosions and cries of battle all spoke of the brutality of war.
The battle raged on, and with the World Government's Red Line forces regrouping, the conflict entered a fever pitch. People were dying by the minute.
Everyone was seeing red; the only thought left in their minds was to kill the enemy before them.
By now, only the finest warriors, one in a hundred, could still stand on the battlefield.
Atop a building.
Belo Betty, one of the commanders of the Revolutionary Army, stood wearing sunglasses and a red sleeveless vest, as usual not wearing a bra and keeping her shirt open.
Watching as her side gradually gained the upper hand, she flicked away the nearly burned-out cigarette in her mouth, took a deep breath, and vigorously waved her flag.
And then she activated her Devil Fruit power, the Encouragement Fruit.
"The enemy is retreating! Warriors, pursue the victory!"
"Overthrow the Celestial Dragons who have oppressed the world! For the liberation of the world, for a better tomorrow!"
"Everyone, fight with all your might until the end!"
"For the dawn that is soon to come!"
As Betty's power took effect, her rousing voice echoed across the battlefield.
Those who heard it were instantly filled with a newfound fighting spirit, as if they had received a tremendous boost. Adrenaline surged through their bodies, and they charged toward the enemy with renewed vigor.
While Betty continued waving her red flag and boosting morale, a series of tightly drawn bowstrings sounded.
Whoosh, whoosh—!
A dense volley of arrows whizzed through the air, arcing toward Betty on the rooftop.
"Betty, watch out!"
Ahiru, vice commander of the Eastern Army, had been secretly protecting Betty, as her Encouragement Fruit ability was vital to the Revolutionary Army. As long as Betty continued using her power, their forces' morale would stay high.
This morale boost was undeniably crucial to the outcome of the battle.
More importantly, while Betty was skilled, she wasn't strong enough to fend off top-tier fighters, and using her ability left her vulnerable to attacks. As such, she was one of the key individuals under the Revolutionary Army's protection.
Almost simultaneously with her warning, Ahiru leapt in front of Betty, her left mechanical arm opening up to reveal a black hole-like cannon. A powerful shockwave blasted forth, obliterating the incoming arrows.
"Thanks, Ahiru."
After the crisis was averted, Betty casually thanked her before continuing to wave her flag.
"Nothing can bring us down! Instead of hoping for mercy from the enemy, grip your weapon tighter!"
"The enemy's weapons are strong, but our will is stronger!"
"Remember why we fight!"
"Never retreat, even if we are the last ones standing!"
"Fight to the death!"
"Hold the line—for our fallen, for the dead, and for those yet to be born!"
"We will resist to the end! We will survive, and we will never surrender!"
"We will overthrow those who have oppressed us from above!"
"Now, attack—break their lines!"
"Cut off their retreat! Give them no room to breathe!"
"Victory belongs to us!"
"Our will is unwavering, forever burning bright!"
With Betty's speech, flames of anger ignited in the eyes of countless allied soldiers, her words reminding them of the many atrocities committed by the Celestial Dragons.
Within the Holy Land.
Crimson blood pooled beneath the bodies of fallen Celestial Dragons.
In no time, blood formed a wide puddle.
"Where's security?! Security!"
"Come protect me, protect me!"
"Where is everyone?! Where are they?!"
Throughout the chaotic battlefield, the panicked cries of the Celestial Dragons rang out.
Once, they were high and mighty, but now, they were helplessly calling for the guards and World Government officials who used to surround them.
But their cries went unanswered.
Because—
The Holy Land guards and CP members who were responsible for their safety had been completely overwhelmed by the morale-boosted allied forces, barely able to hold their own lives, let alone come to the aid of the Celestial Dragons.
"How could this happen…?"
One surviving Celestial Dragon looked around in a daze, his cries for help ignored as he saw the approaching allied forces with their weapons in hand.
His gaze blank, all he could see were enemies.
His ears, filled with the sounds of battle cries.
The next moment, the rooftop where Betty had been rousing the troops was engulfed in a terrifying explosion.
Moments later, Betty's body was flung from the smoke, tumbling through the air.
Before hitting the ground, she managed to adjust her stance, using her feet and the flagpole to cushion her fall, landing unsteadily on a distant rooftop.
"Cough, cough…"
After barely steadying herself, she lowered her head and spat out a mouthful of blood.
"Betty, are you okay?!"
Ahiru quickly leaped to Betty's side, worried.
Her job was to protect Betty, and she had nearly failed. If anything happened to Betty, it would be her fault.
"I'm… cough, cough… I'm fine. Be careful, Ahiru. A dangerous foe has arrived."
Betty wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth, her expression serious as she looked at the smoke that still lingered where she had just stood.
She wasn't particularly skilled in combat, but that was only relative to the top-tier fighters of the sea. Someone who could nearly kill her in an instant had to be terrifyingly powerful.
"My observation…"
"Almost didn't react in time."
Muttering to herself, Betty coughed up more blood.
That attack—
At the last moment, her sixth sense had screamed danger, and her Observation Haki had barely caught the enemy's movements.
In that critical instant, she had been forced to defend herself with Armament Haki.
But not all Armament Haki was created equal.
Hers couldn't compare to the enemy's, and it couldn't fully block the attack. If she hadn't used it, that blow might have killed her outright.
Hearing Betty's words, Ahiru's face grew grave.
"Betty, are you okay?!"
A worried voice came from below—Morley's.
He was also assigned to protect Betty, but he hadn't expected the enemy to evade his detection. When he saw Betty being flung out of the smoke, he rushed over immediately.
However, he didn't show himself, only keeping one eye above ground to observe the situation.
The enemy still didn't know Morley was there, so he could remain hidden until the moment he could turn the tide of battle.
Hearing Morley's voice, Betty looked up again, her sharp eyes peering through the fading smoke toward the ruins.
From her vantage point, she could barely make out a figure hidden within the lingering smoke.
"Whoo—"
She exhaled slowly.
That figure brought a persistent sense of danger, lingering in her mind like a dark cloud.
But retreat wasn't an option.
No matter how terrifying the enemy was, she had to face them.
As the wind picked up and blew the smoke away, Betty and Ahiru's expressions suddenly changed. The figure hidden within the smoke had also disappeared with it.
"Limbs, eyes, heart, kidneys, spine, spleen, liver… guess where the next strike will land?"
As Betty and Ahiru searched for the enemy, a low voice suddenly whispered in their ears.
"Betty!"
The next second, a pitch-black dagger thrust toward Betty's back.
"Get away! You won't hurt Betty!"
With a strange shout, a giant trident shot up from the ground, aiming directly at the enemy behind Betty.
The sharp prongs were wrapped in an almost tangible Armament Haki.
Given its height, anyone stabbed would be killed instantly.
"Morley! Watch out!"
"Huh?!"
Morley suddenly felt danger from behind, but there was no time to defend.
The figure that had attacked Betty dodged Morley's strike with the grace of falling feathers, and just as Morley attacked, two more shadows appeared behind him, striking him with terrifying force.
Boom!
Morley's massive body was sent flying like a cannonball, smashing into a building dozens of meters away.
At the same time, another figure swung a curved blade at Ahiru.
Ahiru hastily raised her mechanical arm to block the attack, but the blade shattered it into pieces before sending her crashing into a distant building.
In just a few seconds.
Two Revolutionary Army commanders were heavily injured, and a vice commander's fate was unknown.
In front of Betty, four masked figures in black cloaks, marked with the words "Secret Force," stood ominously.
At the same time, a large number of black-clad figures emerged from alleyways, sewers, and hidden spots, coldly slaughtering everything in their path like machines.
