Chapter 8: Chapter 8: New Discovery
As Luffy savored his meal, devouring the meat at an astonishing speed, I focused and murmured the words like I did for the inventory or scan. "Dungeon: Island of Destiny."
Before my eyes, lines of light appeared, tracing a floating interface in the air. To my surprise, Luffy seemed to notice them too. He stopped eating, his mouth still full, and stared curiously at the glowing lines with wide eyes.
A voice echoed in my mind, detailing our mission:
You will be teleported to the Island of Destiny – Easy Mode – with your team.
Objective:
Defeat 150 Ombres and 1 Darkside.
Rewards:
Random item/equipment/skill for each team member.
Earn of defeated Sans-cœur under your command.
I turned my head toward Luffy, who was still watching the lines, intrigued. "Luffy, get ready to digest. We're about to be teleported somewhere else to train," I said as I stood up, summoning my Keyblade to my hand.
Luffy immediately straightened up, his mouth still full of meat. He swallowed in one gulp before grinning enthusiastically, already clenching his fists. "Ooooh! This is gonna be awesome! I love fighting after I eat. We're gonna crush everything!" He cracked his knuckles with a determined look, already eager to dive into the action.
I couldn't help but smile. Luffy was always ready for an adventure, even if training was secondary to him. But at least I knew that with him by my side, we were ready for whatever awaited us.
"Alright, let's go," I said, nodding as the light began to envelop us, preparing for teleportation.
Luffy and I arrived on the beach of the Island of Destiny, a place that immediately reminded me of my memories from Kingdom Hearts 1. The golden sand stretched beneath our feet, with the peaceful waves of the ocean gently lapping against the shore. A few meters away, I could see the wooden huts that Sora, Riku, and Kairi used for their adventures. Further off, the platform perched on a tree, along with the bridge suspended over the water, gave a perfect view of the island.
The sky was a brilliant blue, but despite the beauty of the place, the atmosphere felt heavy. All around us, Ombres emerged from the ground, their yellow eyes piercing the darkness. Unlike the Sans-cœur under my command, these creatures weren't part of my army. However, they didn't seem aggressive for the moment, merely watching us.
I took a moment to assess the situation, noticing that we stood in the center of a glowing circle etched into the sand, an obvious starting point for our mission.
"Luffy, the goal here is to defeat all the creatures for rewards," I said, glancing at him. But before I could finish my sentence, true to form, Luffy leaped toward the first Ombre he saw, a big smile on his face.
"Yaaaaah!" he yelled, pulling his fist back before stretching it out. "Gum-Gum Pistol!" Luffy struck the Ombre with such force that the creature vanished instantly in an explosion of darkness.
I sighed, an amused smile on my lips. "I see you got the idea," I muttered before drawing my Keyblade and diving into the fight myself.
The Ombres were weak, far weaker than those I had faced before. A single strike from my Keyblade was enough to make them disappear in a puff of black smoke. Luffy, meanwhile, bounced from place to place with impressive agility, his fists flying in all directions. Every Ombre that dared approach him was instantly swept away with a single punch.
One of the Ombres appeared near me, its sharp claws ready to strike. With a fluid motion, I spun my Keyblade and struck it with all my strength. The creature vanished in a burst of light, leaving behind only a small puddle of shadow that faded into the sand.
Luffy, on the other hand, was laughing as he fought. "These things are too easy! It's not even fun!" he shouted as he kicked an Ombre into a palm tree with such force that it disappeared as well.
I quickly scanned the beach. The water shimmered under the sun, but the Ombres continued to rise from the ground, relentlessly attacking us. Despite their growing numbers, they were just a minor obstacle for us.
"Don't underestimate them, Luffy!" I warned, even though I shared his excitement over how easy the fight was. "There are a lot of them, but they're weak. This is just a warm-up."
I dashed toward another wave of Ombres that appeared near the wooden hut. With a single strike of my Keyblade, they disappeared just like the others. The pace of the fight was fast and smooth, and Luffy kept bouncing around, his elastic fists smashing the Ombres left and right.
The setting of the island, so peaceful and bright, contrasted strangely with the darkness of the Ombres that fell one after another. But despite their numbers, Luffy and I cut through the creatures effortlessly, proving that this battle was just a formality before the real challenge began.
As I destroyed an Ombre with a swift strike, I turned to Luffy. "Enjoy this warm-up while it lasts, Luffy. Things are likely to get a lot more interesting very soon."
Luffy responded with his signature wide grin. "Heh heh, good! I hope there's something really strong to fight after this!"
As Luffy and I continued to wipe out the Ombres, I suddenly noticed a shift in the atmosphere. The sky, once bright and blue, quickly darkened, taking on a threatening hue. The scenery of the Island of Destiny morphed around us, plunging the place into an oppressive darkness. The palm trees, once bathed in sunlight, were now engulfed by growing shadows.
A low rumble emanated from the ground. Beneath our feet, the earth trembled slightly, then tore apart as a massive figure began to emerge from the depths. I recognized the creature instantly: a Darkside, a gigantic Sans-cœur, identical to the one I had already obtained. Its towering stature and overwhelming presence created a palpable tension in the air.
"Here's the real challenge," I murmured as I readied myself for battle, gripping my Keyblade, prepared to face this monstrous foe.
But before I could react, I heard a familiar shout. "Gum-Gum Bazooka!" Luffy's usual excitement rang out. I turned my head just in time to see Luffy leaping toward the Darkside, his arms stretched far behind him.
With phenomenal power, Luffy launched both of his arms forward, slamming them into the Darkside's head with full force. The impact was so intense that the massive creature staggered backward before disintegrating into a burst of darkness, defeated in a single blow.
"That wasn't fun either," Luffy grumbled, crossing his arms with a disappointed expression. "It was too weak!"
I sighed, a small amused smile playing on my lips. "That was just easy mode, Luffy. Don't worry, there will be more interesting challenges," I said, trying to reassure him, though I was also a bit surprised at how easy the fight had been.
In an instant, we were enveloped in light, and the Island of Destiny faded around us. The sensation of teleportation caught me off guard, and when I opened my eyes again, we were back by our camp, surrounded by the familiar landscape of our nameless island in the real world.
I glanced at Luffy, who seemed just as relaxed as before, but a tinge of concern was starting to form in my mind. If the Sans-cœur are this weak here… how am I going to handle the Grand Line? I thought, feeling a bit frustrated by how easily we had triumphed.
A sudden message appeared in my mind:
Luffy wins a Shell Necklace and a Potion.
Jordan gains 150 Ombres and a Darkside (easy).
"Normal" difficulty unlocked.
I glanced at Luffy, noticing a silver necklace had appeared around his neck. I recognized the item: a Shell Necklace, simple but useful, boosting defense by 1 point. It wasn't much, but better than nothing.
"Hey, Luffy," I said, turning to him. "Hand me the potion. I'll store it in my inventory for emergencies."
Luffy, always smiling, handed me the potion without hesitation. "Yeah, yeah, take it. I don't need it right now," he said before starting to fiddle with his new necklace, seemingly pleased with his latest loot.
I stored the potion in my inventory and turned to Luffy again. "So, what do you say? Ready to try normal mode?"
Luffy immediately straightened up, his signature grin lighting up his face. "Of course! I'm just getting warmed up!" he replied with contagious enthusiasm, cracking his knuckles like he was itching for the next challenge.
I couldn't help but smile at his energy. "Alright then. Get ready, we're kicking it up a notch."
You will be teleported to the Island of Destiny – Normal Mode – with your team.
Objective:
Defeat 300 Ombres and 2 Darkside.
Rewards: Random item/equipment/skill for team members.
Full recovery of all defeated Sans-cœur under your command.
As soon as I activated Normal Mode, we were once again enveloped in a blinding light. The real world vanished beneath our feet, and we instantly found ourselves back on the beach of the Island of Destiny, but this time, the atmosphere was much heavier.
The sky was completely darkened, with storm clouds covering the horizon, and the palm trees swayed under a cold wind. The ground was crawling with shifting shadows, already gathering around us. The yellow-eyed creatures were far more numerous than in the previous fight. They seemed more aggressive, more focused on their goal: to annihilate us.
Luffy, true to form, was the first to dive into the fray. "Yaaah!" he shouted, launching himself at the nearest group of Ombres, his fists clenched. His arm stretched back, then slammed down on the creatures. "Gum-Gum Pistol!" he yelled. The Ombres didn't stand a chance, vanishing instantly under the force of his punch.
I took a deep breath and jumped into the fight, my Keyblade in hand. As I slashed through my first Ombre, I realized they were much more resistant than those from easy mode. It took two clean hits to take them down, unlike Luffy, who continued obliterating them in a single blow.
An Ombre leapt into the air, trying to strike me, but I deflected it with a quick swing of my Keyblade before landing a second hit to dissolve it into a puff of darkness. "They're tougher this time," I muttered, dodging the claws of another Ombre attacking from behind.
Luffy, still full of energy, laughed as he continued his rampage. "Ha ha! This is way better now!" he said, sending another group of Ombres flying with a well-placed kick. "I could do this all day!"
While I struggled to take down two Ombres at once, feeling the increased effort needed to defeat them, a deep rumble echoed across the island. I looked up just in time to see two massive Darkside emerge from the ground. Their towering forms blocked out what little light remained, and their presence seemed to drain the island's energy.
"This is the real challenge," I said, fixing my gaze on the two monsters. They were far more intimidating than the one we faced in easy mode.
Luffy turned to his Darkside with a determined grin. "This is what I was waiting for!" he shouted, leaping into the air, ready to strike.
He launched a "Gum-Gum Bazooka!" toward the head of his Darkside, but this time, the impact wasn't enough to knock it down. The Darkside took the hit with a deep growl before raising its massive fist. Luffy had to quickly dodge, jumping backward to avoid a devastating attack that shook the ground where he'd been standing just moments before.
Meanwhile, I had already taken to the skies, hovering around the head of the second Darkside. I pointed my Keyblade forward and fired a Fire spell directly at its face. The fireball exploded on its eye, forcing it to stagger slightly, but the effect was minimal. This Darkside was much tougher.
"It's gonna take more than that," I muttered, quickly casting a Thunder spell. Lightning struck the Darkside on the top of its head, but the creature continued to raise its arms, ready to unleash a barrage of dark projectiles.
"Jordan, watch out!" Luffy yelled as he dodged the dark energy balls fired by his Darkside. He rolled across the ground, skillfully evading each projectile.
I saw the dark orbs forming around my Darkside and swiftly dodged in midair, barely avoiding the barrage of darkness. These creatures weren't playing around. I quickly followed up with a Blizzard spell, sending spikes of ice crashing into its torso. The creature staggered but still wasn't close to collapsing.
On the other side, Luffy leaped back into the air, landing a flurry of punches on his Darkside's chest. "Gum-Gum Gatling!" he shouted, hitting with such speed and force that the Darkside staggered back, its body wavering under the relentless assault. Despite the barrage, the monster kept fighting back, sending waves of dark energy at Luffy, forcing him to keep jumping and dodging.
"They're a lot more resilient than I thought," I muttered as I dodged another barrage of dark projectiles. The battle was getting more intense, but I knew I couldn't falter now. I gathered my energy and cast a combined Fire and Thunder spell, both elements striking the Darkside's head simultaneously.
With a deafening roar, the creature finally collapsed, its knees crashing into the ground before dissolving into a wave of darkness.
"Luffy, how are you holding up?" I called out as I flew over to him.
Luffy, still in the air, delivered a final, powerful blow. "Gum-Gum Bazooka!" His fists slammed into the Darkside with full force, and this time, the creature fell heavily to the ground, slowly disintegrating into a shower of shadows.
Luffy landed on the ground, laughing. "Ha ha ha! That was way more fun! But I could've taken on three of them!"
I smiled, exhausted but satisfied with our victory. "Well, good thing there were only two."
We were once again enveloped in light, and in the blink of an eye, we found ourselves back near our camp in the real world.
A message suddenly appeared in my mind:
Luffy wins an Apprentice Ring and three Potions.
Jordan gains 300 Ombres and 2 Darkside (Normal).
The Ombres and Darkside in your possession have been leveled up to Normal mode.
"Hard" difficulty unlocked.
"Cool, I can upgrade the Sans-cœur I have," I thought as I saw the notification.
