Chapter 55: Chapter 55: The Sole Chink in His Heart

After a bout of hysterical crying, Law finally came to terms with the fact that Rosinante was not only alive but in excellent condition.

"Cora-san! Who is this guy? Don't tell me he's another weirdo!"

"You brat! I'll have you know that I'm your precious 'Cora-san's' savior. Asking such rude questions is anything but adorable!"

"Hmph!" Law turned his head away in defiance. "Cora-san, you were riddled with bullets... How are you still alive?"

"Law, this is my close brother from my time in the Navy—Commodore Wright. He's also a Devil Fruit user!"

"His ability is nothing short of miraculous—no matter how severe the injury, as long as there's a breath left, he can heal it almost instantly!"

As Law's jaw nearly hit the floor, Rosinante chuckled. "Remember that pretty crystal I gave you?"

Law nodded. Beside them, Wright whistled. "Well, well, Sengoku really went out of his way for you, Rosinante. Those Lightcast Beacon Crystals are so rare that there are only ten in all of Marineford, and he gave you two of them..."

"It's a good thing you didn't hand them all to this little brat." Wright smirked, noticing Law's glare. His expression turned serious. "Listen up, kid. I crafted those crystals myself. People holding matching Lightcast Beacon Crystals can sense each other's presence over short distances. That's how I tracked Rosinante down just now."

"But that's not their main function. When you're on the brink of death, the crystal activates, keeping you alive for a short period while signaling for help."

Law's eyes widened. "Then Cora-san..."

"Exactly," Wright confirmed. "Your 'Cora-san,' whose real name is Rosinante, was saved because of that crystal."

"But just staying alive wasn't enough," Wright continued. "When the crystal activates, I, as the creator, can sense its location and rush to provide aid. Luckily, I happened to be near Swallo Island at the time!"

Law was too stunned to speak, and Rosinante finally seemed to realize the situation. "Swallow Island? Wright, you mean..."

"Idiot! Did you think I just happened to show up in time to save you?" Wright rolled his eyes. "Three weeks ago, Sengoku ordered me to leave the Paradise G-3 Branch and head to the North Blue to meet up with Vice Admiral Tsuru—"

He shot a glance at Rosinante, whose face turned pale. "Because he noticed something was off about you. Rosinante, if Sengoku hadn't planned this, even if I'd sensed your crystal, I couldn't have crossed from Paradise in time to save you. You'd have been stuck relying on the crystal to survive until Tsuru arrived."

"That's why Sengoku gave you two of the ten Lightcast Beacon Crystals—to ensure your safety and make it easier for Tsuru to find you. Tsuru, by the way, is one of the four people who first learned how the crystals work. She definitely has one herself that can sense your identity!"

Turning to Law, Wright added, "Brat, understand now? Rosinante has shared his very life with you. Out of the ten survival crystals allocated to Marineford's top brass, he gave you one. Even if it's not used to keep you alive, just possessing that crystal means every Marine will protect you without question!"

"Wright, these crystals are so precious... Sengoku-sama never even told me how valuable they were..." Rosinante's voice was tinged with guilt. "I'm not worth wasting such a treasure..."

"Stop being an idiot." Wright leaned in close to whisper, avoiding the now-teary-eyed Law. "I told you, I made these myself. Marineford may have a limited supply, but I've got extras. Here, take a few more to play with."

Wright shoved five crystals into Rosinante's hands, leaving him dumbfounded. Rosinante could only stare in speechless astonishment as Wright grinned mischievously.

"Quick, stash them away before the brat sees." Wright lowered his voice again before speaking loudly. "So, what other orders does Sengoku have for us? He didn't just send us here to babysit, did he?"

"Ah... oh! Wright, your Den Den Mushi!" Rosinante scrambled to hide the crystals and handed over the receiver. "Sengoku-sama wants you to call him back."

"Alright. You two talk. I'll see what the old man has to say." Wright walked off, Den Den Mushi in hand.

"Buru-ruru-ruru—Buru-ruru-ruru—Kacha!"

"Wright speaking."

"You've returned? What's the situation?"

"Rosinante saved a kid earlier. When I last spoke with you, he asked me to track the boy down and bring him back. Mission accomplished."

"Good. Wright, you saved Rosinante's life this time. As Sengoku the individual, I thank you. He is my adopted son and as dear to me as my own flesh and blood."

"...I figured as much. No wonder he never touched the senbei I swiped from Garp."

"..." On the other end, Sengoku's veins bulged. "Garp's senbei come from me! Of course, Rosinante wouldn't care for them!"

"Ahem!" Sengoku quickly changed the subject. "There's something else I need you to do. Some classified details about Rosinante's mission and the boy can now be disclosed to you."

"The situation is as follows..."

...

"So, my next task is to eliminate the undercover agent? Wouldn't it be better to use him to mislead the Donquixote Family with false intelligence?"

"...You're getting smarter, Wright."

"..." What nonsense! I've always been smart, even without your Buddha Fruit to back me up!

"I've considered that option," Sengoku explained. "But Vergo, as the top executive of the Heart Seat, isn't so easily fooled. We might only get one chance."

"That means abandoning the valuable intel Rosinante gathered, which would otherwise allow us to deliver a decisive blow to the Donquixote Family. Without action, this information will soon become outdated given their rapid growth.

"If we target Vergo, we achieve two things: cutting off a critical intelligence source and using the time gap to strike the Family on all fronts. But once they discover Vergo is missing, they'll conclude that Rosinante is still alive..."

Wright interjected, "When Doflamingo realizes Rosinante survived, it will throw him into disarray. Despite his facade, Doflamingo harbors deep feelings for Rosinante. To maintain his image and prevent a split within his crew, he shot his own brother—just as he killed his father years ago."

"If Rosinante had truly died, Doflamingo would suppress his regret and use it as motivation to keep moving forward, bearing his brother's death as part of his burden.

"But if Rosinante is alive... he'll be haunted by the shadow of fratricide. Rosinante is his only remaining family, his last shred of humanity."

"That one thread of humanity," Wright concluded, "will become his sole chink in the armor of his heart."

Sengoku was silent for a long time before sighing deeply. "Wright... Your insight into Doflamingo is uncanny. It's as if you've known him for years..."

"Flattery will get you nowhere."
