Chapter 53: Chapter 53: Not Even Allowed to Die!
"That... is Doflamingo's 'Birdcage'?"
"The Birdcage is unraveling... there's still time!"
From a distance, they could see Minion Island, where the enormous Birdcage looming above was gradually dissolving. This indicated that Doflamingo had been fed false information.
The navy ships had sheltered a boy. Combined with Rosinante's deception that "Law has been placed under the Navy's protection," Doflamingo had assumed that the boy mentioned in the message was Law.
Unfortunately for him, it wasn't. Fate seemed to be conspicuously favoring Law here—as if the gods of salvation were descending one after another, just as Rosinante had said.
"Hmph, idiot... You're Law's savior. Drake is too... And as for your savior? That's none other than me!"
Wright deliberately avoided the edges of Minion Island, soaring into the sky to pinpoint his descent. He dropped directly downward, careful to prevent the Holy Light Wings' radiant effects from alerting Doflamingo.
"I can't die yet... I need to hold on just a little longer..." Lying on his back, riddled with bullet wounds, Rosinante's mind was still on Law's safety.
"If I die now... your magic... huh?"
It felt as though his dwindling life force had triggered a hidden mechanism. A faint warmth spread from his pocket—this familiar sensation...
"Wright?!"
Having been healed countless times by Wright's Holy Light, Rosinante immediately recognized the life-saving energy tugging him back from the brink of death—it was none other than Wright's Holy Light power!
"So... this must be the 'strategic-level secret equipment' the old man mentioned that Wright developed..."
"Law... Even my dear brother is helping you. With this crystal keeping me alive, my ability won't fail. Go, get as far away as you can..."
Boom! Boom!
"Heh... I managed to hold on a little longer... Is that... naval bombardment? Vice Admiral Tsuru must be here. Law should be far away by now, right?"
"A small crystal can only keep me alive temporarily; it's not enough to hold out until the Navy lands... But these ten or so extra minutes... They've been enough. Tsuru has arrived. Law must be safe by now..."
"The Holy Light is weakening... Looks like my injuries are pretty severe... Haha, Wright, my dear brother, I'm sorry... I still can't escape death..."
"And... old man... I'm sorry too..."
"Hmph! Who said you could die?!"
Swish!
A platinum pillar of light descended from the heavens, enveloping Rosinante completely.
"Holy Healing!"
Rosinante almost went blind from the dazzling Holy Light. Before he could react, layers of heat waves surged over him, the blazing Holy Light rudely and aggressively mending all his injuries. Even his energy was fully restored.
Bam!
Before Rosinante could gather his thoughts, he took a punch to the head, curling up in pain.
This familiar move...
"You idiot! Only on your deathbed did you think of your 'dear brother'? Jump again! I dare you!"
"You think I was joking when I told you not to die? Ignoring me like that? You think sacrificing yourself for someone makes you a hero?"
Wright descended from the sky, veins bulging on his forehead as he scolded Rosinante. This was the first time he referred to himself as "I, your old man," clearly enraged. I treat you as a brother, and you want me to visit your grave instead?!
Curled up on the ground, Rosinante listened to the furious tirade, tears streaming down his face.
Seeing this, Wright grabbed him and yanked him to his feet. "You're fully healed. Get up! Lying there—what kind of image is that?"
Rosinante staggered to his feet, wobbling as Wright stared at his towering figure, almost a meter taller than himself. A heavy sigh escaped as he gave Rosinante another solid punch.
"You listen here! My brothers—no one can touch them! If I don't give the nod, not even death can take you!"
"Wright... Thank you..." Rosinante muttered. He had just gone from one hit point to full health in an instant. The emotional whiplash left him on the verge of collapse. Facing certain death with resolve only to be miraculously saved was an experience unlike any other.
"Save it for later," Wright grunted. "You've practically betrayed your position this time! We'll settle the score later."
"I'll let it slide this time since you still thought of Sengoku..."
Wright fell silent for a moment.
"Vice Admiral Tsuru's ship has already landed. As for the Donquixote Family..." Seeing Rosinante visibly calm down at the mention of that name, Wright continued, "They've likely gained ample experience escaping her pursuit. There's no way this incident will trap them for long."
Rosinante lit a cigarette, exhaling a heavy plume of smoke. His black feather coat suddenly burst into flames.
Wright's face darkened as he watched this idiot roll around in the snow, trying to extinguish the fire. "You moron! Act serious! And what's with that ridiculous smoky eye makeup? It's hard not to laugh!"
Finally extinguishing the flames, Rosinante discarded the burnt coat, his expression downcast. Though he had narrowly escaped death, he could no longer stop his brother...
This black feather coat... Every time I burn one, he sends me another. You say I'm too much like our father, but you...
"What are you thinking about?!"
Wright's voice snapped Rosinante out of his thoughts. His eyes sharpened.
"Wright... Commodore?"
Wham!
"Ow, ow, ow!"
"Cut it out! Commodore my foot. By rank alone, I could execute you for desertion right now!"
"Alright, alright, Wright. You've certainly mastered Vice Admiral Garp's 'Fist of Love' technique..."
Seeing Wright raise his fist again, Rosinante quickly waved his hands. "Wait, wait! This time it's serious business..."
"Wright, there's a Donquixote Family spy in the Navy!"
"Oh? You met this spy? Well, I'm not the one you should be reporting to. My current mission isn't complete yet. I'll give you a few minutes to sort your thoughts."
Rosinante fell silent, sitting cross-legged in the snow, lost in thought.
Wriggt pulled out his Den Den Mushi, dialing Sengoku's number.
Brrp... Brrp... Click.
"This is Sengoku!"
"Old man Sengoku, it's Wright."
Hearing Wright's informal tone, Sengoku's tension eased slightly, and he exhaled deeply.
"Have you reached the target location?"
"Yeah... Some idiot nearly got himself killed..."
"I rushed over to save this idiot just in time..."
Hearing the first half, Sengoku's heart skipped a beat. By the second half, he realized his heart had stopped for a moment.
This brat... Garp was right—he really is insufferable!
