One Piece: Holy Light Swordmaster

Chapter 45: Chapter 45: The Emotionless Laborer

"For the innocent civilians tormented by pirates!"

"For the subordinates who trust me!"

"For the Marines on the frontlines!"

"For justice in this world!"

"For world peace!"

"For ideals…"

"Damn it!"

"I'm exhausted!"

"Ah!!"

Wright let out a faint, sorrowful cry. The last trace of Holy Light around him slowly extinguished, and he collapsed to the ground, losing consciousness.

This was the most secure secret room in Marineford's Marine Headquarters.

Looking around, all unnecessary items such as desks, chairs, sofas, and file cabinets had been removed. The entire room had been transformed into a factory—specifically, a factory for processing the Lightcast Crystals.

A month ago, after a high-level emergency meeting, the four bigwigs immediately took action, with Wright's terrifyingly high efficiency resolving all matters—these usually calm and occasionally humorous individuals turned out to be incredibly impatient when it came to getting things done.

A volunteer team of a hundred was quickly assembled, all made up of elite Marines who were loyal to justice and had clean records.

Under the coordination of Sengoku, Garp, and Wright, the hundred Marines were subjected to simulations of common battle injuries—even limb severing injuries. With Wright present, these injuries were not a problem. His presence ensured that no matter what accidents occurred, no lives would be lost.

There was no doubt about it: the tests had been a perfect success! Even with injuries severe enough to sever limbs, as long as the severed limb remained intact, the Lightcast Crystal could be activated to reconnect them, awaiting Wright's deep healing.

Under the suggestion of the veteran Admiral Sengoku, they even tested a previously overlooked function of the Lightcast Crystal—purification.

Years ago, Wright had become famous for his cleaning techniques, battling the Red-Haired Pirates in drinking contests. Of course, this referred to his Holy Light skills—healing techniques that could detoxify, cure diseases, and remove various negative effects. The purification function was undeniably part of his healing Holy Light powers.

Through tests involving poisons, viruses, toxic gases, and even alcohol, frostbite, burns, and various other harmful conditions, the Lightcast Crystal showed the expected results—it could effectively eliminate these harmful effects. In cases where the damage was too severe for complete elimination, the crystal would still ensure no loss of life.

"Amazing!" Sengoku exclaimed, delighted. "Wright, the effect of the Lightcast Crystal is even more useful than direct healing—it can eliminate poisons and viruses, which would otherwise waste time searching for a specific antidote or, in some cases, lack a suitable cure!"

"We even tested poisons obtained from a Devil Fruit user, the Poison-Poison Fruit, and all were effectively neutralized!"

While Wright was still wondering if Magellan suspected Sengoku of plotting something, Sengoku had already arranged for the first batch of 20,000 White Crystals to be delivered to Wright—each one a life-saving miracle!

...

Seeing the 20,000 White Crystals piled up in the room, Wright felt a sense of collapse. He had known this moment was inevitable ever since he first developed this item, but he didn't expect it to come so soon!

Sengoku really was an old bastard!

"Sengoku, you bastard! Garp, you old fool!" Wright grumbled as he finished infusing the Lightcast Crystals after a month of hard work. He opened the door of the secret room and found a general and a vice-admiral waiting outside, meditating.

Upon hearing the door open, the two old men opened their eyes and saw Wright's tired face, which briefly flashed with a hint of guilt.

"Wright, boy!" Garp rushed over and checked him over, relieved to see that Wright was just tired but otherwise in good spirits. He turned to Sengoku, pointing an accusing finger. "Damn you, Sengoku! I felt that Wright's energy was faint a few days ago, and you wouldn't let me in!"

"You idiot, Garp!" Sengoku shot him an annoyed glare. "The creation of the Lightcast Crystals can only be done by Wright. He had already specifically told me not to let anyone in unless absolutely necessary to avoid any mistakes. If you had gone in, there could have been unforeseen consequences!"

"A weakened energy doesn't count as a special case?" Garp retorted.

"Ugh… Garp, I'm fine. No need to get worked up." Wright rubbed his forehead. "Sengoku's decision was right… huh?"

"Huh? Sengoku? Ahahaha!" Garp quickly picked up on something he wasn't supposed to hear. "Sengoku, you old bastard! You've finally lowered yourself to my level, hahaha!"

...

Wright worried briefly about accidentally revealing his true thoughts. Would this be considered disrespectful? Would it cause trouble for him?

"Hmph!" Sengoku looked at Garp disdainfully. "What's wrong? Do you think I'm such a petty person? Wright's still young, and if he wants to call me 'old man'… well, it's not a big deal."

"Given Wright's monumental contributions this time, I allow him to call me that!"

As expected of the 'Buddha' Sengoku—he certainly had a big heart!

Looking around at the golden light surrounding the room, Sengoku couldn't help but sigh deeply. "Wright, if the Marines knew what you've done for them, your name would surely echo across the world! But…"

"Haha, my goal is world peace. This is just the beginning. I understand," Wright said dramatically.

"World peace, huh…" Garp and Sengoku didn't laugh. This kid… maybe...

...

In the Admiral's office, it was still Wright and the four bigwigs. Fleet Admiral Kong was announcing a new appointment.

"Lieutenant Colonel Wright, due to your tremendous contribution and your strength far surpassing your current rank, I hereby promote you to Commodore."

Looking at Wright with approval, Kong continued, "Wright, the accomplishments you've achieved are enough to warrant a promotion to Rear Admiral, but in order to protect you, we must slow down your ascension and keep your involvement in this matter confidential. Do you understand?"

"I understand!" Wright pointed upwards with a finger and smiled knowingly, which surprised the four bigwigs. It seemed the boy knew more than he let on. But considering Wright's background, the four of them quickly figured it out.

"I'm glad you understand," Sengoku said, giving Wright a long look. "Although the Lightcast Crystals have immense potential, our plan is to move forward slowly."

"We won't overburden you. Your primary goal is to become stronger—to grow even more powerful. Not only will that make these Lightcast Crystals easier for you to handle, but it will also ensure you have the strength to protect yourself!"

Wright nodded, understanding. Vice Admiral Tsuru spoke up, "Based on current data, the first batch of 20,000 Lightcast Crystals can support about a year on the most dangerous frontlines, simply as precious life-saving resources. Even so, I recommend distributing them to elite teams first, then expanding usage after evaluating the situation."

Garp agreed, "Though the Lightcast Crystals are powerful, we can't let soldiers become reliant on them. Soldiers who stop valuing their lives will cause major problems!"

Sengoku nodded gravely, "Vice Admiral Tsuru is right. We need enough time to observe the soldiers' psychological changes and the new data that arises after the Lightcast Crystals are introduced to battle. Only then can we gradually spread them. Wright, your task will be to produce 20,000 Lightcast Crystals per year."

"Additionally, Wright, I hope you'll create some Lightcast Beacon Crystals for secret purposes, ones that won't be made public. Of course, you can create them and give them to trusted individuals."

Wright nodded and took out a prepared wooden box. "I've already taken care of that."

He opened the box, revealing ten neatly arranged Lightcast Beacon Crystals inside.
