Chapter 14 - Anomaly
“It’s better to be prepared than not. It doesn’t matter if the predictions are wrong,” Shen Qiu replied in a low voice.
“Haha, true enough. Consider it money well spent for peace of mind. Besides, you guys are my lifesavers; otherwise, who would come out in the rain at this time of night?”
The owner responded in a very good mood.
“Right, how much is it?”
Shen Qiu wasn’t in the mood for small talk; he still had a lot of items to purchase.
“6120, but I’ll make it 6100 for you!”
The owner put the medications into a plastic bag and handed it to Shen Qiu.
“Here!”
Shen Qiu took out cash and handed it directly to the owner, then turned to leave with the medications.
Watching Shen Qiu’s departing figure, the owner rubbed his chin and said, “So many people are buying medications? Should I set some aside for myself? Forget it; I shouldn’t be paranoid. I’ll just sell more; I still have over a hundred boxes in stock anyway.”
On the other side, Shen Qiu headed straight to a nearby 24-hour convenience supermarket after leaving the pharmacy.
He quickly arrived at the supermarket entrance, where even more people had gathered.
Numerous cars were parked illegally in front of the supermarket, and many shoppers were pushing their carts out.
The whole scene was very lively; one might think the supermarket was holding a big promotion.
Seeing this, Shen Qiu didn’t hesitate and went straight inside to shop.
Half an hour later, Shen Qiu emerged with a shopping cart filled with three bags of 50 kg rice, as well as salt, soy sauce, compressed biscuits, canned goods, and other items with long shelf lives.
He placed the items in the back of his motorcycle, tied them down with a rope, and covered them with a waterproof cloth.
After finishing all this, Shen Qiu rode off on his motorcycle at high speed, quietly calculating in his mind.
He had nearly finished purchasing medicine and food, and there wasn’t much else left to buy, so he sped back home with his supplies.
After a while, when Shen Qiu moved all the items back home and changed his clothes, the clock on the wall showed it was already 3:30 a.m.
After washing up briefly, he went to bed to rest.
Dongwan Sea Area.
The originally calm sea surface roared like an enraged beast, violently churning.
The sky was filled with flashes of lightning and thunder, and torrential rain poured down.
On the rolling sea, a giant nuclear-powered cruiser, measuring 210 meters in length, swayed like a tiny boat.
Huge waves continuously crashed against the deck.
Not far away, a massive shape spanning over ten kilometers swept past in the turbulent waters.
In the ship’s control room, several officers dressed in blue military uniforms struggled to maintain their footing, with some falling directly to the ground.
At the forefront, a female captain secured herself to the command chair, continuously manipulating the ship in an attempt to stabilize the massive vessel.
“Major Ye Mi, the winds and waves are too strong; we could capsize at any moment!”
The officer next to her said with great difficulty.
“Hang in there! Steady the ship! As long as we can return to Wenlan Port, we’ll be safe!”
Ye Mi gritted her teeth and encouraged her crew. She hadn’t expected that the calm sea just a second ago would turn into chaos the next moment.
Just then, an officer responsible for monitoring shouted in terror.
“Major Ye Mi, look behind us!”
Ye Mi’s heart sank as she suddenly turned to look back. By the flickering light of the lightning, she saw a towering tsunami rising from the horizon of the distant sea, threatening to engulf everything.
She immediately shouted, “Send a tsunami warning to the Fifth Administrative District, Misi City, and Wenlan Port! Tell them to evacuate immediately!”
“Ma’am, we can’t receive any satellite signals!”
“Then use the wireless equipment at maximum power to send them the warning!”
“Yes, ma’am.”
The officer operating the equipment quickly replied.
At this moment, the aide, extremely tense, asked Ye Mi, “Ma’am, what should we do next? The tsunami is about to hit us!”
“Issue a full alert! Prepare for impact. Whether we can withstand it or not depends on our luck!”
Ye Mi gritted her teeth and said.
“Understood!”
The next afternoon, Shen Qiu was sound asleep in bed.
The heavy rain outside finally stopped, and a ray of sunlight streamed through the window, shining on Shen Qiu’s face.
Buzzing~
Shen Qiu’s phone rang, the vibrating sound waking him up.
He reached out to grab his phone, glanced at the caller ID, and found it was a scammer calling.
Looking at the time, he realized it was only 11:30 in the morning.
Frowning, Shen Qiu answered the call.
“What’s the matter?”
“Hey, bro, are you still sleeping? Hurry up and get ready. We start filming at 2 PM; you need to arrive early!”
Huang Lang urged Shen Qiu anxiously.
“Wait a minute, didn’t you say it was in seven days?”
“Oh, come on~ when did I say it was in seven days? I said it was within seven days! Have you been drinking cheap liquor? You must be confused! I told you that liquor was no good, and you didn’t believe me!”
“Stop it! I can’t possibly be mistaken. Just tell me the truth, what’s going on?”
“Ahem, it really seems like I can’t hide anything from you. Honestly, I’m not quite sure what’s going on either. The motorcycle advertisement you’re filming was supposed to still be in the preheating stage according to the original plan. But for some reason, the brand suddenly got anxious and wants to shoot the ad immediately; they’re planning to start full-price pre-sales tonight. So the timeline has been moved up. I thought since you haven’t been busy lately, finishing it earlier would make things easier for you.”
Huang Lang said with a smile.
Shen Qiu pondered for a few seconds before replying, “Okay, where’s the location?”
“At 2 PM, it’s by the Tianqing Canal outside the Tenth Ring of Sunny Sky City. The organizer has booked that area along with the roads by the river.”
Huang Lang explained the situation clearly to Shen Qiu.
“Got it, I’ll arrive early.”
“Ahem, one more thing—remember the reminder I gave you yesterday, and don’t do anything reckless.”
“I know.”
Shen Qiu then hung up the phone.
He got out of bed and walked to the window, gazing outside.
The sky was a brilliant blue, completely clear.
The glaring sunlight shone on Shen Qiu, making him feel warm, even a bit hot.
He squinted his eyes, noticing that this temperature was at least ten degrees higher than yesterday, giving him a sense of transitioning directly from spring to summer.
The weather was becoming increasingly unpredictable.
However, after the rain stopped, the entire street became lively again, with everyone resuming their daily routines as if nothing had happened.
Then Shen Qiu headed straight to the bathroom, planning to take a shower to freshen up.
In the afternoon, Shen Qiu, wearing his Black Knight suit, took a taxi to the shooting area.
As he looked out at the scenery whizzing by, he felt an inexplicable gloominess in his heart.
There was a persistent feeling of unease.
Just as Shen Qiu was lost in thought for an unknown amount of time, the taxi driver spoke up.
“Hey, buddy, we’ve arrived by the Tianqing Canal. I won’t drive any closer because it’s too crowded over there. Would you mind walking a few steps?”
Shen Qiu came to his senses and glanced outside.
He saw countless cars parked in the distance by the canal, completely blocking the outer road.
“Sure!”
Shen Qiu readily agreed.
“Thanks! These fans are really crazy,” the taxi driver said with a sigh.
Shen Qiu didn’t say much in response. He used his phone to pay the fare and then opened the door to get out.
He walked toward the shooting location.
Along the way, there were many young men and women, all wearing excited expressions and holding up fluorescent electronic signs.
“Did you guys get the support tickets?”
“No, those tickets are too expensive; they’re already being resold for 3,000 each.”
“How are we supposed to get in?”
“Let’s just wait outside; maybe we’ll catch a glimpse.”
Shen Qiu estimated that at least over a hundred thousand fans were gathered here, so it was no surprise that it was so crowded.
Of course, these weren’t Shen Qiu’s fans; he wasn’t well-known within the Red Alliance.
