Chapter 206: Chapter 206: The Hokage Robe
Within a few days, the appointment letter from the Daimyō of the Land of Fire arrived.
That was fast!
The letter harshly criticized Hiruzen Sarutobi's actions and strongly endorsed Tsunade as the new Hokage.
Hokage's Office.
"Lady Tsunade—oh, no, Lady Hokage. Are you satisfied with the renovations?"
The speaker was the a short, dark-skinned, middle-aged man, his face radiating obvious flattery.
"Not bad," Tsunade replied, glancing around.
Kawakaze had covered the renovation costs for the office. Though Tsunade hadn't planned to change anything, Kawakaze insisted that a new recruit deserved a fresh start. She eventually relented. Now the office had a completely new appearance. Holding the appointment letter in her hand, she lightly tapped it against her palm.
The solid wood flooring, walls painted in warm tones, and high-quality furniture were a significant upgrade from the previous setup.
"That's fine. If there are any quality issues, just let me know," the dark-skinned man said, his smile widening further. He clearly saw his connection to the Hokage as a stepping stone for future opportunities.
"Okay, thank you for your hard work," Tsunade replied with a polite smile, clearly pleased with the results.
"I'll leave you to it," he said, understanding not to overstay his welcome.
"Hm," Tsunade nodded as the man respectfully withdrew.
"Ah, that feels good," Tsunade said, tossing the appointment letter casually onto the desk. She sank into the upholstered chair and propped her feet up on the desk, ready to relax.
Before she could close her eyes and enjoy the moment, Koharu Utatane's sharp voice interrupted.
"Take your feet down! What kind of behavior is this?"
Koharu rushed over, smacking Tsunade's feet off the desk with a look of disgust. Her stubborn nature was as unyielding as ever.
"I know, Counsellor Koharu," Tsunade replied helplessly, rubbing her forehead.
"Haha, you really need to watch your image. Don't drool on the desk in the future," Kawakaze teased as he walked in, just a step behind Koharu. The two had just returned from arranging the inauguration ceremony.
"You're the one drooling," Tsunade retorted, her tone embarrassed as she recalled once leaving a puddle mark on Kawakaze's chest.
"Stop being so flirty," Koharu interrupted, clearly uninterested in their banter. "Things have been arranged. The inauguration ceremony will be held for you tomorrow."
Tsunade smiled genuinely. "You've worked hard."
Koharu, who had been tirelessly overseeing preparations both inside and out, acknowledged the thanks with a slight nod. "It's what I should do. The Hokage robe will be delivered later—try it on. I'll also go over the schedule for tomorrow again."
She then launched into a detailed explanation of everything Tsunade needed to do, speaking at length for nearly half an hour. By the end, Tsunade's eyelids drooped, and her drowsiness was evident.
"Did you listen?" Koharu asked sharply, narrowing her eyes at the sleepy Hokage-to-be.
"I listened, I listened," Tsunade replied hastily, nodding like a chicken pecking at rice.
"Haha~" Kawakaze burst out laughing from his seat on the sofa.
"What are you laughing at?" Tsunade glared at him, clearly annoyed.
"Fine, I'll leave you two to it," Koharu said curtly, having explained everything. Not wanting to linger any longer, she turned and left the office.
"Okay, goodbye, Counsellor Koharu," Tsunade said, rubbing her eyes as she watched Koharu leave.
"What do you think? Was my money well spent?" Kawakaze asked proudly once they were alone. He walked around the room before stopping behind Tsunade, placing his hands on her shoulders.
"It's not too bad. It's just what I needed," Tsunade replied, tilting her head back with a tired sigh. "I'm exhausted." Her voice carried a hint of lethargy.
"Okay, this is a skill most people can't enjoy," Kawakaze said teasingly, pampering her as he began to massage her shoulders.
"Haven't you eaten today?" Tsunade teased back, feeling the light pressure.
"Haha~" Kawakaze almost laughed in frustration. "I can't deal with you," he muttered. Just as he was about to press harder, a knock at the door interrupted them.
"Lady Hokage, the Hokage robe is here," a female voice called from outside, saving Kawakaze from possible retaliation.
"Come in," Tsunade said, quickly sitting upright and adjusting her demeanor to fit her status. Kawakaze stepped aside, standing properly.
The door opened, and a middle-aged woman entered, carrying a large bag.
"Try it on first, and I'll fix it if it doesn't fit," the woman said. She was one of Konoha's finest tailors.
"Okay, you can leave it on the sofa," Tsunade instructed. "If there's a problem, I'll come find you."
The tailor nodded and left the Hokage robe behind. With the precise measurements she had taken earlier, the chances of an ill-fitting garment were slim.
"Okay," the tailor agreed, placing the bag on the sofa before turning to leave, carefully closing the door behind her.
What a sensible person!
"Try it on. Let me see if it looks good," Kawakaze said as he walked over, picking up the bag and handing it to Tsunade with eager eyes.
"It's just a robe. What's there to see?" Tsunade replied, but she still took the bag from him.
She pulled out the brand-new Hokage robe and hat.
"Oops, I guess I don't have to take off my clothes," Kawakaze muttered, realizing his thoughts had wandered when he saw her shake out the robe.
"What did you say?" Tsunade asked, though her attention was elsewhere, as she put on the robe and walked over.
"Nothing. It's just… very nice," Kawakaze said quickly, stepping forward to place the Hokage hat carefully on her head.
"What do you think?" Tsunade asked, spinning around to show him. The gold-embossed characters "Fourth Hokage" stood out prominently on her back, while the hem of the white robe, trimmed with golden flames, complemented her temperament perfectly.
"Money well spent," Kawakaze thought to himself.
The Hokage hat slightly shaded her eyes, giving her a mysterious air.
"It looks good," Kawakaze said without hesitation.
In the Hokage robe, Tsunade exuded a sense of dignity and authority, with an added aura that made her seem even more commanding than usual.
"Kawakaze Hatake, you are hereby ordered to take charge of the hygiene of the Hokage building from now on," Tsunade declared with a serious expression, her tone carrying a trace of arrogance.
"You're so full of yourself," Kawakaze retorted, his eyes lighting up with mischief. "If I don't teach you a lesson today, you won't even know what family discipline is."
Without warning, he pounced on Tsunade.
"Ahhh!" Tsunade cried out, realizing too late that she might have provoked him. The two of them vanished into the Hokage's Office together.
Anbu members, alerted by the commotion, quickly rushed to the scene. However, upon entering the office, they found it empty.
"It's probably just Lord Kawakaze and Lady Hokage fooling around," one of the Anbu muttered, scratching his head. After all, there had only been the two of them in the office.
"Alright, don't tell anyone about this," said the Anbu captain, a married man who seemed to understand the situation immediately.
"Yes, Captain," the team replied, and they left the Hokage's Office as though nothing had happened.
Meanwhile, back at the Hatake Clan residence, Kawakaze's room was filled with lively energy.
"Put on the robe," Kawakaze urged.
"I don't want to," Tsunade replied, clearly annoyed.
"Just wear it for a bit," he insisted, pestering her relentlessly.
Tsunade sighed, exasperated. "Fine, just this once."
"Oh~ Oh~ Whoa! Ah!"
