Chapter 9: Chapter 9
Danzo gritted his teeth. No.
He wasn't going to let some mystery lunatic toss him around like a ragdoll.
Twisting midair, he formed a single-hand seal, molding chakra before exhaling a sharp burst of wind beneath him. The sudden propulsion slowed his momentum, allowing him to land with balance on the only untouched patch of earth—right in front of Toneri.
Without hesitation, he flashed through hand seals.
"Wind Release: Vacuum Great Sphere!"
A compressed blast of wind shot forward, kicking up a storm of debris. The attack slammed into Toneri's position with a loud thump. Dust and smoke swallowed the battlefield.
Danzo didn't stop there.
Now free from Toneri's invisible grip, he immediately followed up, releasing another jutsu at the same spot. He wasn't foolish—a single strike wouldn't take down an unknown enemy.
Except…
The person he was trying to kill wasn't in front of him anymore.
He was behind him.
Danzo barely had time to register the presence before he heard the voice:
"True Fire of Samadhi."
Pain lanced through his shoulder.
Danzo twisted at the last second, narrowly avoiding a vital strike—but the blade still pierced deep.
He leaped back, his good hand instinctively moving to yank the weapon out—
And then—
Fire.
Not just any fire.
A bright red inferno erupted from the wound, spreading across his body like a curse.
Danzo's expression twisted in agony. He dropped to the ground, rolling desperately to smother the flames—but they didn't die out.
They clung to him.
Burning.
Devouring.
Toneri exhaled, watching the scene with mild interest.
"No use, old crook," he said, shaking his head. "It's the same as Amaterasu, you know? You can't put it out."
Danzo let out a ragged, pained growl.
Toneri, ignoring him, glanced toward a tiger mask lying a few feet away.
He walked over, crouched down, and casually wiped the dust off.
At that moment—
Hiruzen arrived.
The Third Hokage took in the sight—his lifelong comrade burning, writhing in agony on the ground.
His composure snapped.
"DANZO!"
Hiruzen tore off his Hokage robe and hat, his face twisting with grief and fury.
"YOU!"
His hands flashed through hand seals.
"Earth Release: Earth Dragon Bullet!"
A stone dragon head burst from the ground, its maw opening wide before it launched a barrage of hardened earth bullets toward Toneri.
Toneri—now wearing the tiger mask—simply tilted his head.
Then—
He fell backward.
Right into a black portal that opened beneath him.
His voice echoed as he vanished:
"Next time, old man."
And just like that—
He was gone.
Silence fell.
The ANBU arrived seconds later, surrounding Hiruzen as he approached Danzo's burnt, motionless body.
His life-and-death friend.
Or at least—that's what he believed.
-----------------
Thud.
A metal hook clattered down the stone staircase of the Nakano Shrine, tumbling in a series of sharp, metallic echoes before coming to a slow, pathetic roll across the cold floor.
It might've been just an object—but it carried bodies with it.
A handful of clansmen followed suit, crashing down the steps in less-than-graceful spirals, groaning as they hit the ground.
Then—
Footsteps.
Measured. Unhurried.
From the shadows of the stairway, a young man emerged.
Dressed in black attire, he moved with calm confidence, his eyes closed—as if waiting.
Then he spoke—a casual sigh leaving his lips.
"Yare yare… a lot of Sharingan."
Only then did he raise his chin, his expression hidden in the dim light of the underground chamber as he took in the sight before him.
And what a sight it was.
A sea of red.
The Uchiha Clan's underground meeting chamber glowed uncanny with the light of dozens of Sharingan.
Glaring. Watching.
Fury.
More than a few had their hands twitching toward weapons, their faces twisted in anger—after all, their own had just been tossed down the stairs like discarded vegetables.
But not a single one moved.
Because the moment the stranger opened his eyes…
The room changed.
A flower-like iris.
Glowing. Blue.
A pulse.
Then—pressure.
Every single Uchiha dropped to one knee.
Some fell flat.
A few weaker ones went down immediately, pinned to the ground unconscious.
Only the stranger stood.
Untouched. Unbothered.
Even Fugaku Uchiha, standing at the front, found himself struggling.
Then—it got worse.
The gravity doubled.
A sickening crack echoed as one of the unlucky clansmen's knee slammed too hard into stone.
Even Fugaku faltered. His stance buckled. His knee hit the ground as he glared at the intruder.
The stranger tilted his head.
Still unfazed. Still calm.
"A lot of darkness."
His smile was slow.
Almost mocking.
"Then let me be your light."
