The meeting lasted for over half an hour before the three elders left.
Uchiha Fugaku descended into the secret room beneath his study. From a sealing scroll, he retrieved the body of the Yamanaka clan member.
"Corpse Smelting—"
He placed the Yamanaka corpse into the corpse-smelting apparatus. A biological substance, neither purely cellular nor non-cellular but infused with the bloodline's unique characteristics, was synthesized.
This substance flowed into his brain, reacting with his brain tissue.
A sudden burning sensation surged through him.
The temperature of Fugaku's forehead rose sharply, sweat trickling down his face as if he were suffering from a severe fever.
The high fever subsided as the process concluded, leaving him slightly drained but otherwise unharmed.
Fugaku focused inward, evaluating the changes.
"The range of perception has widened!"
The Uchiha clan's compound was vast, with hundreds of people living across sprawling residences. Previously, his sensory range could encompass most of the compound, but now, he could perceive the entire area effortlessly.
"Chakra perception has also sharpened significantly!"
The sensory ability derived from the Yamanaka clan allowed him to detect chakra fluctuations, though it had limits in detecting faint traces. Now, his enhanced perception could pick up even the subtlest chakra signals, vastly improving his sensory acuity.
This further confirmed the strength of bloodline augmentation through corpse smelting.
"The six bodies of the Uchiha clan members..."
Fugaku raised his chin, his thoughts turning to the deceased Uchiha members.
Knowing now that repeated smelting could enhance his bloodline, it was clear that the bodies of the six fallen Uchiha members had to be used.
While it might seem disrespectful to desecrate the remains of his clansmen, Fugaku justified it as a necessity for the Uchiha clan's survival. His strength directly correlated to the clan's security and influence.
"After their formal burials, the six bodies will be recovered in secret."
He considered the possibility that smelting the six corpses might elevate his Mangekyō Sharingan to the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan.
"And even if it doesn't, there is always Uchiha Shisui."
A cold smile spread across his face.
Shisui, as a wielder of the Mangekyō Sharingan, possessed a bloodline of immense purity. His body alone could be worth several ordinary Uchiha corpses—or even more.
Fugaku resolved to first smelt the six corpses and then, if needed, turn to Shisui. He was certain this process would unlock the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan.
At the Hokage's office in the Hokage Building, the Third Hokage sat behind his desk, puffing on his pipe, his expression unusually somber.
"Hokage-sama," Uchiha Shisui said as he knelt on one knee, bowing his head respectfully.
The grim expression on the Third Hokage's face immediately caught Shisui's attention, filling him with unease.
"Shisui," the Hokage began after a moment of silence, "Advisor Danzo has disappeared."
"What?" Shisui's head snapped up in shock.
Danzo Shimura, one of Konoha's most influential advisors, had vanished. This was a crisis of significant proportions.
"To be precise, he disappeared over a day ago," the Hokage clarified. "I've kept this news under wraps to prevent panic from spreading in the village, but it's only a matter of time before the truth comes to light."
"Hokage-sama, why did Advisor Danzo disappear?"
Shisui's voice was tinged with urgency, aware of the chaos this news could cause.
"He secretly left the village several days ago. However, a day ago, the Seal of Tongue Eradication that he planted on Root members suddenly disappeared."
The Hokage paused, exhaling a plume of smoke before continuing.
"Both the advisors and I suspect that Danzo has been killed."
"Killed?" Shisui repeated, his expression beneath the mask darkening.
While he didn't hold Danzo in high regard, the man was still one of Konoha's advisors. His death would shake the village to its core and create vulnerabilities that enemies might exploit.
"Hokage-sama, where was Advisor Danzo last seen?"
"The Land of Rice," the Hokage replied gravely.
Shisui's thoughts raced.
He had already been aware of the Uchiha clan's recent activity. Two of their jonin-led teams had been annihilated, prompting Uchiha Fugaku to personally lead a team to the Land of Rice.
Now, Danzo Shimura had disappeared in the same region.
The connection was impossible to ignore.
"Hokage-sama, do you believe the Uchiha clan is involved in Advisor Danzo's disappearance?"
The Third Hokage's gaze sharpened. "Shisui, regardless of my personal trust in you, the circumstances are suspicious."
He leaned forward, his voice dropping.
"The Anbu's investigation revealed that while thirteen Uchiha clan members traveled openly to the Land of Rice, several more left covertly."
Shisui's eyes widened behind his mask.
Not only had the Uchiha clan sent an official team, but they had also dispatched additional elite members in secret?
The implication was clear: this was no ordinary mission.
"If the Uchiha clan suspected Advisor Danzo's presence in the Land of Rice, they may have acted preemptively," the Hokage continued, his tone heavy with meaning.
Shisui's stomach churned with anger and disbelief.
If his clan truly orchestrated Danzo's assassination, they had violated one of the village's most sacred principles: loyalty.
Even if Danzo was not without fault, he was still one of Konoha's leaders. To kill him was to jeopardize the stability of the village.
"The disappearance of Advisor Danzo is a grave matter," the Hokage said solemnly. "It will undoubtedly cause unrest. We must uncover the truth and provide answers to the village and the Shimura family."
"Hokage-sama," Shisui asked hesitantly, "have you spoken to Chief Fugaku about this?"
"I have," the Hokage replied, his eyes narrowing. "But he denied any involvement."
He fixed Shisui with a pointed look.
"Shisui, I trust your loyalty to the village above all else. I need you to investigate this matter and determine whether the Uchiha clan played a role in Danzo's disappearance."
The room fell silent for a moment. Then the Hokage added, "However, I understand that this puts you in a difficult position. If you feel unable to take on this mission, I won't force you."
Shisui clenched his fists.
"Hokage-sama," he said firmly, "before I am a member of the Uchiha clan, I am a Konoha ninja. I will accept this mission."
The Hokage's face softened, a faint smile replacing his earlier frown.
"Shisui, your dedication to Konoha is commendable. I knew I could rely on you."
He placed a hand on Shisui's shoulder.
"This mission is critical to the village's stability. Do not fail me."
"Yes, Hokage-sama," Shisui replied, his tone resolute.
The weight of his task settled heavily on his shoulders as he prepared to investigate the truth—a truth he feared might shatter everything he held dear.
