Chapter 66: Chapter 66: What You Envy Has Always Been My Burden

The news of Mirai taking down the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist spread swiftly across the entire village, and once again, his prestige in Konoha soared.

If cutting off the Raikage's arm in battle could be considered a stroke of luck, killing the entire Seven Ninja Swordsmen group left no doubt about Mirai's strength. After all, in this world of shinobi, no one could defeat Kage-level opponents twice through sheer luck alone.

As he strolled through the streets of Konoha, villagers turned their gazes toward Mirai with admiration and awe. Had it not been for the longstanding reputation of the Uchiha Clan, they might have already hailed him as a village hero.

Trailing behind Mirai, Uchiha Obito watched the scene with envious eyes. If it were him instead, how incredible that would be. Unlike Mirai, who maintained a distant, unapproachable expression, Obito would eagerly rush up to people, asking if they wanted his autograph.

Just picturing it made him chuckle to himself.

"Obito, what are you laughing about?" Rin asked, confused by his reaction.

Seeing that her voice had attracted everyone's attention, Obito quickly waved his hands.

"Huh? Nothing at all. I'm definitely not jealous of Mirai."

Pfft! Rin and Kurenai both stifled laughter. Obito was hilarious—he practically announced his true feelings out loud.

Catching sight of Rin's smile, Obito's jaw dropped slightly. She's… beautiful. Rin, you're so adorable.

"Idiot," Kakashi muttered, shaking his head at Obito. This guy was the complete opposite of Mirai.

Chatting as they walked, the group soon arrived at a yakiniku (grilled meat) restaurant. Inside a private room, Might Guy, Genma Shiranui, and Ebisu were already waiting.

"Ohayou~" Mirai greeted them and took a seat.

Today's gathering was to celebrate Guy's recent brush with death. All their close friends showed up, except for Asuma. Since he sensed the growing gap between him and Mirai, Asuma had grown increasingly isolated. Other than missions and necessary training, it had been ages since he joined them for a meal.

"Mirai, thank you so much this time," Guy said, raising his glass. "A toast to you!"

Guy downed his drink in one gulp, feeling immensely grateful to Mirai. Without him, he wouldn't have made so many friends—or survived his encounter with the Seven Ninja Swordsmen.

Feeling the warmth of the alcohol, Guy silently vowed that no matter what happened in the future, he would always stand firmly behind Mirai.

"Guy, there's no need for thanks," Mirai replied, raising his own glass and downing it.

Though he sometimes found Guy and the others a bit childish, Mirai didn't mind that feeling.

"Guy, can you tell us about the Seven Ninja Swordsmen?" someone asked eagerly.

"Of course." Guy glanced at their curious faces and began his story, even pulling out two nunchucks as props. "If Mirai hadn't come to deliver my weapons, my father and I wouldn't have survived."

As Guy finished recounting the story, Kurenai, Ebisu, and Genma exhaled in relief. Even hearing about it was intense—they could only imagine the danger he'd faced.

Thank goodness…

Watching Mirai calmly eating grilled meat on the side, Rin couldn't help but say,

"Mirai-kun is as remarkable as ever. While we're still unknown, he's already a legend in the shinobi world."

Hearing Rin's words, Kurenai felt a pang of competitiveness. Trouble—her "cabbage" was attracting other people's attention!

Just as Kurenai was about to say something, Obito's slightly sour voice cut in,

"If I had faced those shinobi from Kirigakure, I would've shown them who's boss!"

Seeing Obito's usual unshakable confidence, everyone was speechless.

Come on, Obito. Just because you like Rin doesn't mean you have to go overboard.

Ebisu chimed in, "Obito, with your skills, maybe don't brag. You don't even measure up to a strand of Mirai's hair."

Genma nodded. "True. Mirai's the most exceptional ninja I've ever met."

Kurenai added her agreement and looked at Obito, "Obito, bragging in front of a girl will only ruin your image, you know."

Unfazed, Obito crossed his arms and huffed. "I don't need to compete with Mirai. What's so great about him, anyway? It's not like he's that strong, or that handsome, or that famous, or that good at cooking… or that wealthy…" His voice trailed off, and even he couldn't continue.

"Hahaha… Obito, you even have to admit it, don't you?" someone laughed. "There are so many things to admire about him, it's hard to keep track."

"Yeah, if only I could be like him, too. Just look at all his talents," another chimed in, smiling.

Mirai took a sip of his drink, sighing quietly.

Noticing his expression, everyone turned to him. "Mirai, what's wrong?"

Feeling the weight of their gazes, Mirai gave a small, melancholic shake of his head.

"The very things you envy… have been my burdens since I was a child."

The group felt like they'd just been slapped in the face. Even the grilled meat seemed less appetizing.

Kurenai's eyes sparkled with amusement. That was satisfying.

...

Kirigakure.

Yagura's face was dark as he shredded the intelligence report in his hands. The Seven Ninja Swordsmen had been missing for days. At first, he hadn't been concerned, since they were known for their eccentric personalities and had disappeared for stretches before.

But then the rumors surfaced—word was that the entire group had been killed by some kid from Konoha named Uchiha Mirai.

When Yagura first heard the news, he sneered. Those fools in Konoha, he thought, should come up with a better excuse to boost their own reputation. There was no way the Seven Ninja Swordsmen could be taken down by some kid.

And… that brat Mirai, who supposedly severed the Raikage's arm, might indeed be strong, but taking down the entire Seven Ninja Swordsmen? Absurd.

Yet, as time went on, Yagura grew uneasy. The Seven Ninja Swordsmen were still nowhere to be found, almost as if they had vanished. At this point, as much as he hated the idea, Yagura had to face the possibility that the rumors were true.

The Seven Ninja Swordsmen might actually be dead!

Gritting his teeth, Yagura roared, "Send out the order. Tonight, we attack Konoha!"

It was one thing for the Seven Ninja Swordsmen to die, but he could not let those seven legendary blades fall into Konoha's hands!
