-------------------------------------------------------------
According to past habits, even if he walked slowly, the Third Hokage and others would start discussing without him, leaving him no chance to intervene.
So Danzo chose to walk slowly.
In his view, it was just the Third Hokage return after go to get money, which wasn't a big deal.
Would the Daimyo dare not give the money?
He absolutely wouldn't dare. That coward would wet his pants just from a glare.
Besides, if Konoha doesn't get money, it won't develop its military strength. In the end, it's the Daimyo who will suffer the most when other villages attack.
So Danzo wasn't worried at all.
Thus, he walked as slowly as possible.
Everyone knew he had mobility issues due to injuries, so why not walk slowly?
Danzo had contributed to the village and bled for it.
Even the Hokage had to show him respect.
Fifteen minutes passed in the Hokage's office while waiting for Danzo. The Third Hokage's already stern expression turned completely grim.
At this point, Koharu and Homura couldn't hold back any longer.
They cursed Danzo in their hearts but also thought about how to ease the tense atmosphere, hoping to divert the Third Hokage's anger and calm him down.
After thinking of many excuses, they finally heard the distinctive sound.
"Thump!"
"Thump!"
From far to near.
"Hiruzen, I've told you before not to be too lenient with those worthless people in the Daimyo, otherwise..."
Danzo casually pushed open the door, one foot stepping in, already reprimanding in a disappointed tone.
The mess that you made, and you blame me?
At this point, even the Third Hokage started to believe that Danzo had secretly caused trouble.
Listen to his tone.
"Bang!!"
The desk was slapped heavily, and the Third Hokage roared in anger:
"Danzo, shut up! Do you still see me as the Hokage?"
Danzo was stunned in place as he was about to close the door.
Being scolded right after entering? He hadn't seen the Third Hokage this angry in a long time.
"Danzo, do you not care about the village's matters?"
Homura signaled with his eyes while pretending to reprimand, trying to redirect the Third Hokage's anger.
Koharu chimed in:
"Yes, Danzo, you were too slow. Don't do this next time."
"Hiruzen, what do you mean?"
Danzo wasn't one to accept unfounded blame easily, so he demanded an explanation with a sullen face.
"What do I mean?"
The Third Hokage laughed in anger:
"You have the audacity to ask me what I mean? I should ask you, my dear advisor, what do you mean? Do you know that the Daimyo is withholding funds because of you!"
"He dares!!!"
Danzo predictably retorted with a low growl.
He really had the nerve not to give the money?
"You..."
The Third Hokage was at a loss for words.
No wonder the Daimyo was scared. With Danzo's demeanor, who wouldn't be terrified?
That's the Daimyo you're scolding as if he were your grandson.
Wait, Danzo didn't even have a wife, let alone a grandson.
"Enough."
Seeing things were off, Koharu immediately put on her old feisty persona and yelled, glaring at Danzo:
"Danzo, sit down and listen to what Hiruzen has to say."
"And show some respect to the Daimyo of the Land of Fire."
"Hmph!!"
Only then did Danzo, grudgingly, shut the door heavily, seemingly in retaliation against the Third Hokage's scolding.
Then he sat angrily in a chair, staring at the Third Hokage.
If the Third Hokage didn't give a reasonable explanation, he wouldn't let it go easily.
"Hiruzen, calm down first. Let's discuss things slowly. No need to get angry."
After calming Danzo, Koharu turned to appease the Third Hokage.
Unfortunately, the Third Hokage wasn't in a forgiving mood because solving this issue meant he'd have to break ties with Danzo.
Danzo's series of actions and words had already infuriated him.
"Calm down? How can I calm down?"
The Third Hokage slapped the desk, pointing at Danzo and questioning:
"I went to see the Daimyo, but they had received special information saying that our Konoha Root's leader was planning to assassinate the Daimyo to support someone else.
Because of this, the Daimyo withheld the funds and scolded me, even threatening to seek protection from Iwagakure and Kumogakure, fearing Danzo would actually attempt an assassination."
"Can you believe it? With Danzo's attitude and actions, how could the Daimyo not be worried?"
What the hell?
Danzo was dumbfounded, and Koharu and Homura exchanged glances, suspecting the Third Hokage had said something wrong.
Danzo planning an assassination? Assassinate the Daimyo?
He was just all talk, wasn't he?
When did he start doing such things?
"Nonsense!!"
Danzo, regaining his senses, angrily cursed:
"This is slander! When have I ever done such a thing? Do I need to plot to assassinate the Daimyo?"
The advisors exchanged another glance.
Judging by his tone, it seemed plausible.
No wonder the Daimyo believed Danzo would assassinate him.
It was all Danzo's doing.
But wait, where did the information come from?
Glaring at Danzo, the Third Hokage picked up his pipe, lit it, took a few puffs, and sat back in his chair, his face still angry.
"Currently, the Daimyo demands that I disband Root and deal with you, Danzo, or he won't release any funds for Konoha's development. What do you all think we should do?"
Trouble.
The others realized the gravity of the situation.
If the Daimyo dared to threaten the Third Hokage like this, it meant he was serious about contacting rival villages.
If Konoha didn't give a reasonable explanation, this issue would escalate. Was the fake information important now?
The Daimyo was convinced that Danzo was after him.
Koharu and Homura were at a loss for words.
They knew the Third Hokage well. If he said this, it meant he was ready to compromise.
Similarly, Danzo understood the Third Hokage.
So, he couldn't stay silent.
"So, you plan to sacrifice me and disband Root?"
"Disbanding is temporary."
After venting his anger, the Third Hokage gradually calmed down, frowning:
"The most important thing now is to stabilize the Daimyo. I've agreed to let the Uchiha send someone to protect him. They chose Shisui, and I approved."
