Chapter 858: Chapter 858 Selfish Desires Are Still Selfish, No Excuses Needed
"Who are you? Why are you here? I don't recall having someone like you in my Familia!"
Soma asked with a puzzled expression as he saw Asahi walk in. After giving up on his Familia, Soma had ceased updating their status and hadn't recruited any new members, which made him wonder about Asahi's identity.
"Just a passerby. Oh, and because I can't stand what your Soma Familia has been doing, I've come to deal with it. It's that simple. Everyone outside has already been taken care of. You're the last one!"
Asahi said, glancing around the room filled with bottles of divine wine.
"Aren't you afraid of getting into trouble with the Guild? And I am a god. Even if I'm not a powerful one, I'm not someone a mortal can simply humiliate. Whatever you plan to do to me, I can still use my divine power without being sent back to the heavens. "
Soma replied calmly. In his eyes, Asahi was just a mere mortal. Although in the lower world, gods had limitations similar to mortals, they still possessed powers that gave them a significant edge.
The difference between a god and a mortal could be compared to a person with only a hundred coins in their pocket and a god with the same amount but access to a bank account holding billions.
The mortal had no such reserve. That was the key difference, as gods could tap into that immense wealth when needed.
So, even when faced with a mortal's challenge, gods rarely felt threatened. Soma knew that even if he unleashed his divine power, he wouldn't face immediate punishment or be sent back to the divine realm.
"You're right. You are a god. Although your Familia is running wild, I won't kill you. And honestly, even if you do release your divine power, it wouldn't make a difference to me."
Asahi replied indifferently. Was he supposed to be intimidated by Soma's power? High-tier gods in the dungeon world had the power to destroy worlds with a single blow, but what did it matter?
"You are wrong, I didn't condone my Familia's actions. They made me give up on them!"
Soma shook his head, expressing his disappointment. He had abandoned his followers after watching them become consumed by greed and dependency. Once they became addicted to the divine wine, he had simply walked away.
"Hey, hey, don't just blame everything on your Familia. You have serious problems too," Asahi interrupted
"No matter what, you are the god of the Familie, their leader. h Even in a dysfunctional familia, you have a responsibility. You could've learned from Orario's other familias. Look at strong ones like Freya Familia or Loki Familia."
"Even if Freya doesn't interfere much, she still knows how to manage things. And Loki? She's built up her familia step by step!"
"As for poorer gods like Miach, even though his Familia is weak, he still works hard for them. Sure, they may have some issues, but they don't have the massive problems your Familia does."
"Now, let's talk about you. You knew the power of this divine wine. Even gods can barely resist it. In the divine realm, you gods live for millions of years, and even though you've tasted divine wine countless times, you're still obsessed with it."
"Even though this version of the divine wine isn't as potent as the one from heaven, you knew full well that humans wouldn't be able to resist its allure. Instead of limiting its use for the sake of your Familia's economy, you let it run wild."
"Did you ever do anything about it? No, despite knowing that this wine was like a spiritual poison to humans, you allowed your followers to consume it. And after they drank, instead of taking responsibility, you just walked away, ignoring the consequences."
"You know, the members of your Familia are now practically treated like rats, despised by everyone. And that's all on you, their god. There didn't used to be this many problems, but it's because you, as their god, didn't take care of them," Asahi said coldly.
"To put it bluntly, you don't really care about your Familia. If you did, you could've stopped making divine wine. You've already amassed enough wealth from the first batch of wine you brewed."
"Your Familia could've improved, but what did you do? Your selfish desires are still just that, selfish. Every being, even gods, have their desires, and yours is no different."
"As a god of wine, there's no way you could give up brewing. So, instead of considering your Familia's well-being, you chose to keep making wine. The issues with your Familia? Just an excuse you came up with."
"No matter what, you're still a god. Even simple tricks like hypnosis can't deceive you. You refused to confront the truth. Without a doubt, your Familia's downfall is largely your fault. Because that's just who you are, and people rarely change."
"Your divine wine was just a catalyst, and you ruined the lives of good people within your Familia, leading them down a path of no return."
"Stop making excuses. You're a god, why bother deceiving yourself with such weak rationalizations?"
Asahi's tone was full of disdain, seeing through Soma's pitiful attempt to justify himself. It was clear Soma had been making excuses, and they were hardly convincing.
In truth, Soma had lived a troubled life. Asahi had hit the god right in his most vulnerable spot. While most of the blame for the downfall of the Soma Familia did rest on its members, the key issue that truly led them to ruin was Soma himself.
A god who only understood how to make wine but not how to lead a Familia was bound to fail.
Look at Loki. Though she didn't care much about her Familia's individual quirks, whenever there was a serious issue, she got involved.
Some of the most critical decisions weren't made by Finn, but by Loki. Even if Finn did make the call, Loki had to approve it before it was finalized.
In short, Loki's role is very important, and it is not a joke.
But as for Soma, though part of his intention in brewing wine had been to save money for his Familia, most of it had been to indulge his own hobby, even if it meant destroying his Familia in the process.
Yet he shifted the blame onto his own people.
This wine, which was like a form of mental poison, wasn't something to be taken lightly. People, even regular mortals, have limits. They shouldn't be treated like gods, and Soma hadn't considered that at all. He was far from being a competent leader.
In fact, as Asahi pointed out, Soma should've just opened a shop and sold his wine. He wasn't fit to run a Familia.
