Naruto: My Sign In System Is Too Overpowered

Chapter 19: C18: The Hypocrisy of the Third Hokage

"Naruto has already mastered the Flying Thunder God?"

Yamashiro Aoba's voice was filled with disbelief as he stood outside the Hokage's office with Namashi.

Namashi nodded, crossing his arms. "Yeah. The Third Hokage will probably start relying on him more from now on."

Aoba sighed, his mind flashing back to years ago.

"When I served as a guard for the Fourth Hokage," he muttered, "Minato-sama once tried to teach us the Flying Thunder God… but none of us could learn it."

Namashi nodded. "Yeah… Even when three of us worked together, the best we could do was the Flying Thunder Formation."

Aoba chuckled bitterly. "But Minato's son? He learned it just like that."

Their eyes followed Naruto as he approached the stairs leading up to the Hokage's office.

Even though he hadn't heard their conversation, Naruto felt their stares.

He scratched his cheek. "Uh… Is there something on my face?"

The two men snapped out of their daze.

Aoba quickly waved his hands. "Ah— No, no! Good morning, Naruto-kun."

Namashi coughed. "Kakashi and the others are already inside. You should hurry up."

Naruto nodded. "Thanks, senpai."

Then, without another word, he stepped past them and headed inside.

---

Inside the Hokage's Office

The long hallway echoed with his footsteps.

As he approached the office, he could already hear the old voice inside.

"Hmm… let's see… Help an old lady buy watermelons… Weed old man ryo's vegetable garden… Pick up manure for the old man's farm…"

Naruto froze.

'What kind of mission list is this?!'

Knock, knock.

He rapped on the door.

"Uh… Sorry if I'm late."

Inside, Team 7 turned to look at him.

Before anyone could speak—

Sarutobi Hiruzen chuckled. "Ah, Naruto! Just in time, just in time. Come in, come in."

Naruto walked forward, standing next to Sasuke.

Hiruzen continued browsing the low-level mission list, muttering to himself.

Naruto could feel his patience running thin.

And then—

"Help pick up manure."

Naruto snapped.

"Oi, old man! You've gotta be kidding me! Why the hell is picking up manure even on this list?!"

Kakashi sighed, pressing a hand on Naruto's head.

"Relax," he said lazily. "Every ninja starts with small tasks. Even if you're strong, you can't skip the basics."

Hiruzen laughed heartily.

"That's right! But… since you don't like that one, how about another mission?"

He picked up a new scroll.

"This one is simple—help the Daimyo's wife find her lost cat, Tora."

Naruto's eye twitched.

'Catching a cat? Seriously?'

But seeing as there were no better options, he sighed and gave up.

It was better than manure duty.

---

Hiruzen then smiled.

"Kakashi, take Sasuke and Sakura to prepare first. I'd like to have a private word with Naruto."

Naruto's eyes narrowed.

Kakashi hesitated but nodded. "Understood."

With that, he grabbed Sasuke and Sakura's shoulders and led them out.

The door closed.

Naruto stood in front of Hiruzen, arms crossed.

'What does this old man want now?'

The Third Hokage took a slow puff from his pipe, blowing out a cloud of smoke.

"Haha, Naruto, don't look so serious."

His voice was warm—too warm.

"Grandpa just wants to have a friendly chat."

Naruto didn't respond.

He waited.

Hiruzen continued, smiling.

"You've been improving a lot lately, and that makes me very happy."

"If there's anything you need— clothes, food, weapons—just let me know. I'll have it arranged."

Naruto froze.

'Since when does this guy care?'

For ten years, the Third Hokage had let him suffer.

And now?

He was suddenly offering gifts?

'What's your angle, old man?'

Still, Naruto pretended to be excited.

"Oh? That's great! I won't be polite, then."

Hiruzen chuckled.

"Good, good. No need to be shy."

Then, his smile grew gentler.

"Also… about the villagers."

Naruto's expression didn't change.

Hiruzen sighed. "I know they've been cruel to you."

"But you must understand, Naruto… They don't actually hate you."

"They just fear the Nine-Tails."

Naruto's jaw clenched.

Hiruzen continued.

"I've already spoken to them. They won't bother you anymore."

"So just focus on your missions, and one day—"

"You can become a pillar of the village. Just like Kakashi."

---

Naruto's mind was silent.

Then—

He laughed.

Not a happy laugh.

A cold, mocking laugh.

'Oh? So now you suddenly care?'

'Where was this speech years ago?'

For ten years, he had been treated like garbage.

Villagers spat at him.

Shops refused to sell to him.

He was chased, beaten, and cursed at.

And Hiruzen had done nothing.

But now—

Now that Naruto had Flying Thunder God and Eight Gates…

Now that he was no longer weak…

Suddenly, Hiruzen wanted to be "kind."

'Hypocrite.'

Naruto forced a grin.

"Thanks, old man! I'll do my best!"

Hiruzen smiled, satisfied.

"Good, good."

---

As Naruto stepped out of the office, his smile faded instantly.

He clenched his fists.

'Old bastard.'

He knew the truth.

This wasn't about caring.

This was about control.

Hiruzen wanted him loyal.

He wanted Naruto to follow orders.

To be a tool.

'Tch… You think I don't see through you?'

But Naruto wasn't that naive brat anymore.

He would play along.

For now.

But in the end—

It would be Naruto, not Hiruzen, who decided his own future.
