Chapter 12: The Miko’s Prophecy
Kakashi shook his head helplessly. "Naruto, you need to be more careful next time. If you handle this poorly, it could become a diplomatic incident, and that would be troublesome."
Naruto disagreed, pointing at Shion and fuming. "But Kakashi-sensei, look at her! Everyone is fighting for that miko, but what is she doing!"
While it wasn't the best response, the others couldn't help but silently agree with Naruto's frustration.
As for Shion, the miko herself, she was less than pleased. "Hmph! This Naruto is so annoying!"
[Looking at Naruto, Shion's pupils dilated in shock. The vision of Naruto being backstabbed, one she had foreseen, flashed vividly in her mind.]
["Naruto, stop it!" Sakura shouted, as the other members of Team 7 quickly intervened, pulling Naruto away from Shion and making him sit down.]
[Shion stood up, brushing off Sakura's hand, and fixed her gaze on Naruto.]
["What's wrong? Do I have something on my face?" Naruto asked, confused.]
["You… will die." Shion's voice was barely a whisper, but the words hit Naruto like a punch to the gut.]
["Ha! What did you say? I can't hear you! Speak up!" Naruto, oblivious to the seriousness of the situation, leaned in closer, demanding an answer.]
["You… you… will soon be pierced through the chest and die." Her voice grew louder and more forceful as Naruto pushed her.]
"…What?"
["Didn't Naruto just get cursed by the miko for touching her?"]
["It's just a coincidence, right? Didn't the miko predict Naruto's death before?"]
["This guy treats everyone the same! He speaks to the Hokage with no respect, and now he's talking to a miko from another country the same way. He's too blunt."]
[The scene shifted to a reception room in the temple. Naruto, still grumbling, complained to his teammates. "Why do we have to protect that kind of person?"]
[Ashiho, the miko's attendant, approached and bowed respectfully to Naruto. "Please forgive Lady Shion. She occasionally has visions of people's deaths, but she means no harm."]
["Visions?" Team 7 echoed in unison, intrigued.]
[Ashiho straightened up and spoke seriously. "Please don't worry, her predictions are always accurate."]
["Wait, you mean 100%?" Naruto immediately asked, his tone more panicked than curious.]
["Yes, her predictions have always been accurate," Ashiho confirmed, nodding.]
[Naruto's eyes widened. "Does that mean… I'm definitely going to die?"]
[Ashiho remained calm. "Yes, that's what she foresees."]
["What?! So Naruto's going to die?!"]
["Not necessarily. Even though the miko's predictions are known to be accurate, no one knows for sure what they mean."]
["I still don't think Naruto's going to die. The sky screen looks like something from a movie, and Naruto's the main character! The protagonist doesn't die!"]
["That sounds crazy! The Hokage's village didn't build a sky screen just for a movie. What's the point of that?"]
["I think it's more likely these images are showing us the future. If you're curious, go to Konoha and check the people who appeared in the sky screen."]
["That makes sense. We could go to Konoha and see if any of those people are real. Maybe they can tell us more."]
["Damn it, I know what those images are—they must be Konoha's advertisements!"]1
["You're probably right! Now the whole ninja world knows about them. A lot of people will probably come to Konoha to request missions!"]
["I wish we had something like that!"]
The members of Team 7, plus Ashiho and the others, stared at the sky in silence as the gravity of their sudden fame settled in. Even Sasuke and Tenten, who had been excluded from the scene, felt a little irritated.
Kakashi, however, was used to things not being as they seemed and had a feeling that this was just the beginning. With this level of attention, they would be assigned an endless stream of tasks.
[Naruto, noticing Ashiho's calm demeanor, couldn't hold back his frustration. "Wait! Didn't you just say we shouldn't care about this stuff?!"]
[Ashiho didn't seem to pick up on the tension and merely responded, "Even if you care, it won't change anything."]
[Xiao Li, who couldn't stand seeing Naruto upset, chimed in. "You're not helping him at all!"]
[Sakura, however, dismissed the prediction lightly. "Don't worry about it, Naruto. Maybe dying once will fix your stupidity."]
["Sakura!!" Naruto immediately snapped, more embarrassed than angry. He then turned to the others and said, "Listen, I don't believe in predictions! I want to become Hokage, I'm not going to die before that!"]
["It's clear that Naruto's team isn't taking his potential death seriously, even though he's obviously worried about it."]
["Yeah, I wouldn't believe it either if I were in his shoes. It sounds too crazy to be real."]
"Predictions are fake. This miko is just cursing me!" Naruto muttered to himself, but the others exchanged glances. They knew better than to take these visions lightly, especially when they were from the mysterious sky screen.
