Chapter 3: Anbu

Orient opened the door to see an anbu. "The Hokage call you to his office," he said and vanished like he never existed but was just 2 roofs away.

It was the second day after graduation. Orient started his day with meditation, recalling the last time he tried to put the Shifting ninjutsu into practice. Previously, he ended up vomiting blood, losing consciousness, causing muscle deterioration, and numbness for 3 days, and killing half of his queens. So he needed to figure out what happened. However, the anbu had another plan for him. 'good timing,' he thought.

In the Hokage's office, Hiruzen was smoking his pipe. Miki entered the office, "Hokage-sama, Shino Aburame is asking to see you,". "call him in," he replied.

Orient stepped in, feeling the weight of the world on his shoulders. Hiruzen smiled at him, "Congratulations on the graduation," he said, wishing the best for him but his destiny was already determined. "thank you, Hokage-sama," he gave a slight bow. Hiruzen looked like he had just seen a ghost.

"I called you here to talk about your future." Hiruzen jumped into business, hiding his suspicions. He didn't hear any response from Orient so he continued, "So…the ANBU or a team?"

Orient looked at him "You are talented, so talented to live in the light," Orient quoted, "what's the other option?".

Silence filled the room. Hiruzen knew what he meant

Orient looked at him. "So what do you choose?" Hiruzen didn't give him an answer but a question. "I don't care, wherever help me rise,". The Hokage nodded, "then it's all done, dismiss!". He nodded and took his left.

Hiruzen put more tobacco in his pipe and lit it with a chakra burst. He smoked for a while, "I hope good luck for you, Shino," he sighed and smoked. "His recruiting starts tomorrow,". He said to thin air, "And don't bother yourself with the loyalty test, send him directly to the Konoha Strict Correctional Facility.". There was a silent wind movement in the room.

Hiruzen felt a little lighter; Orient didn't choose the team so he could send him to the Anbu without any complication. In the Anbu, Orient skills will shine and the will of fire will burn brighter. "I hope Dragon has lied," he sighed; The Hawk was hunting.

While walking to and from the Hokage's office, he figured out a solution. The shifting gave him the ability to change what was there not to add something; he would need to attach his chakra channels with his vessels. However, that was like waking against the current as all ninjutsu were made using the classical one.

He was at his door and more perplexed. He saw his mother caring for some Bonsais. "you came?" she asked. "No, I d.i.d.n.o.t," he replied. (that goddamn question…HoPE yOu BuRn iN HElL)

He was holding his red ear. "so you chose to let him choose for you?" she asked and he nodded. She cut another leaf of the sakura Bonsai, "Son," she looked at the Bonsai, "I was raising you like this tree, you know?"

"Unlike this tree, I didn't know what you would be," She looked at him, "If you don't want to be a ninja I can help, provide, and protect you, even if you wanted to work I can help you get whatever the job you want. Everything…son, I can give you everything,".

He never heard this tone from his mother; it wasn't weak yet helpless, it was like a lion begging for his life.

"I know," he opened his arms, "yet this ungrateful son will leave" his mother darkened like a wet candle, "and return every time to remind you that you were the worst babysitter in the world but the best mom in it,". She looked at her son with teary eyes and embraced her ungrateful son. "Love, pain, happiness, sadness," he said, "are just some chemical reactions that give this life meaning, so just wait every time like how you used to wait for Dad," he smiled under his collar. "don't ruin this moment with some smart-ass shit," she said while her tears were full of pride, worry, and happiness; Orient became more like Shibi…more mature.

It was the night and he was lying on his bed. 'today will be the first day that I walk without the Anbu team,' he thought. After the Hyuga Affairs, there was an anbu team always beside them and they didn't change from that day. Orient didn't need to worry about keeping any secrets; he was already on the Hokage's radar from that moment. However, after years that team became more open with him as he made their life and job easier by staying in one place most of the time and being visible; they gave him some small info.

His mom would return to work as the Hokage asked, nonetheless, not in the logistics department but in the T&I. 'That's good,'; his mother wouldn't feel lonely without him after all.

The gears were spinning at their full capacity, running all the trains at once. The night seemed endless and sleepless so he got up and went for a walk.

The black sky was shining with the brightness of the stars; the moon was sleeping tonight so it was their time to shine.

The gears kept spinning and accelerating, he had that moment when everything seemed clear, the first moment without his insects interfering with his thinking and way, the first moment after 7 years when everything was falling into place, and the puzzle was already solved.

You can't grow a tree in one day but you can kill it in an hour. he can't develop the chakra channels in one day yet he can change his skin in a moment as he discovered. His insects never stood in his way; he never had a way.

Slow and steady he shall rise, powerful and invincible he will be, and when that day comes all the colors of the world will be seen. In the shadows, the slightest flames burn the brightest. So talented to live in the light, so ambitious to stay in the shadows. Shino Shibi Aburame…ORIENT has started.

Orient was running through Konoha; he had his first mission already and it's to pass the physical and mental tests for the ANBU. He didn't get any information but that his recruiting tests had started and he was running blindly in a try to find the key they asked for.

After he had searched through Konoha, he found nothing. 'find the key to the backdoor,'. He looked around all of the stores and bars and everything that might have a backdoor but couldn't find anything useful so he stopped looking for them and started to look for the key. He sat on the heads of the Hokages, he had noticed it. The ANBU was so positioned around 6 places: a bar, restaurant, store, blacksmith, Hokage's office, and the western gate to Konoha.

'maybe he never meant a building with a backdoor but Konoha itself and that means that the key is with the Hokage,' he thought while drinking some coffee; he couldn't sleep last night. He closed the bamboo bottle and ran to the Hokage's office.

He stood out on a roof, the window was open, no one was 10 meters near it, and no chakra or heat or sounds came from it so no fuinjutsu or tricky seals. 'maybe that's the backdoor that I search for and there isn't a real key,'

(I'm confused, so to solve it from now on Seals are the explosive papers and so on and the handsigns are the HAND-FUCKING-SIGNS.)

Orient jumped through the window. "what a surprise," Hiruzen said while puffing smoke, "do you need anything little shino?". "the permission to get out from the western gate," He bowed a little. "you don't need to bow little shino but why breaking the window if there's an open door?" he asked after inhaling.

"Please stop playing the fool," Orient sighed, "you know I'm coming old man, so for what is left of your dignity, give me the permission,".

Hiruzen had a pumping vein on his head, "What's left of my dignity?". Orient sighed again, "And now you're deaf", he looked out the window, "You're too old, and my mother was here 2 days ago; I didn't want you to die from blood pressure but you seem eager to die,". Hiruzen inhaled deeply, "go with him to the gate,", an anbu jumped off the corner and bowed deeply. He looked at Orient with his long collar and his rounded sunglass, hiding his face. The anbu jumped out of the window. "see you later old man, and try to not die before I return," Orient said as he left.

The anbu bolt from one roof to another, Orient knew that this was part of the test so he needed to keep with it. He ran and ran, but his limits were visible and the anbu was fading with every second. He sent his insects to his feet, and with every step he took they would burst chakra. He couldn't close the gap but it didn't get bigger.

Orient reached to see 3 Anbu waiting for him. "1 minute and 43 seconds, not bad, and it's still not dusk," the one with a dragon musk talked, "you passed the first one now follow us because the coming one is the most important,".

3 days and 3 nights of non-stop running. Orient was already on the verge of losing it. His speed was down to the point of just jogging behind them. However, they slowed down too. He kept running even if every fiber of his body was screaming.

Suddenly, they stopped so he stopped. "low chonin wolfs,", one of the anbu jumped forward and deleted all the monsters.

Everything has chakra in their existence, and only the living can use it…animals are living (no fucking shit me). After a certain point, they gain intelligence and form the summoned clans.

Humans were never the only danger in this cruel world, and Konoha learned that the hard way.

The Dragon Anbu looked at Orient with heavy, irregular breaths, chakra depression, semi-unconscious, and vulnerable. He walked to him and attacked the back of his neck so he totally fell. "good,".

Orient woke up to see the same 3 Anbu. "follow me," the Dragon Anbu said and walked. Orient picked up his wrecked body and followed.

Walking in the dark, smelly, devilish, shit hole. Orient insects were at their highest alertness. "Konoha Strict Correctional Facility," Dragon said. The halls seemed like an endless horizon, all the screams and the eyes on him were heavy. Nevertheless, no reaction.

Their walk came to an end as they entered a cell. A kid the same age as Orient was sitting on a chair, life was sucked out of his eyes, and his body was as rigid as a training dummy. "your first mission: kill him in the worst imaginable way," Dragon ordered.

Orient walked to the kid. "Mom...no more please…save me," he kept muttering under his few last breaths.

"and to know, he's not a spy or anything, just another unlucky kid that we caught for the first mission," Dragon said with a hissing and small laughter.

In that gloomy cell, the dark smoke rose from Orient's body and enveloped him, moving his hand with speed that surpassed the naked eyes, "Devour"; The smoke dashed.

The kid was embedded in the smoke.

"STOP, PLEASE...…STOP"

The scream echoed for as long as the humans could imagine. The screams just made the smoke more violent.

SCREAMS until it suddenly died.

Everything got quiet in a second, yet the smoke didn't disappear as he roomed around where the kid sat. Minutes passed and the smoke started to return to Orient. There was nothing on the chair no bones, no flesh, no blood, nothing…a clean chair.

Dragon observed Orient but found an iceberg, "you don't need any explanation?" Dragon said.

'He is the best Aburame have made, the perfect metal to be forged,'

"Is there any explanation that would bring him from the dead?" he took his sunglasses and looked at Dragon, "after all…he wasn't a kid,"

Dragon understood now why the Hokage wanted him, the head of the Anbu, to be his Jenin supervisor. He now understood why the Hawk was more interested than usual.

Orient was lying in a room inside one of the bar's rooms. 3 days of hell, training with Dragon, the fire tattoo, and the examination.

Dragon beat the shit out of Orient, fighting from dawn to dusk, with no rest, no food, killing intent, and real injuries.

Orient needed to have the Fire tattoo drawing on the back of his shoulder with a glowing blade, although, it was just half the Tattoo as he is still a genin… just being an Anbu is a privilege for chonins so he did something amazing.

A full body examination by the chief of the hospital. Orient's body was broken more than he thought: muscle atrophy, the absence of some nerves and blood supply, weak heart, Hypermetabolism, high regeneration rate, the absence of chakra channels, and low chakra reserve.

He never knew his body needed all this work. His journey had gotten longer even before it started. for now, he will focus only on his chakra channels; 3 days were enough for 2 percent of them and he was under hellish training.

He got out of his room and ate with his insects like an ox; he needed all the nutrients he could get and the Hokage himself paid the bills for him and his insects, too. He returned to his room, lay down on his bed, and focused.

After lying for 2 days, he got up, went to eat again, and returned to lie again.

3 weeks passed and Dragon didn't call for him. 3 weeks of the same routine of eating and lying for days continued. He didn't have any means to reach Dragon and he needed him.

Reconsidering his plans, he needed to check on his chakra channels; he already could feel the difference but how far he reached. He went to the hospital and straight to the chief.

"good to see you again," the man in his casual clothes raised his hand. Orient bowed and then pointed at his body. "okay, Beetle-kun, let me just get my tools." Biji Hyuga stood and got out of his office while Orient sat on a chair with a white musk that had a red beetle covered with flames.

"I'm amazed your chakra channels are fully formed and in a very healthy condition," he said with Byakugan active and scanning the naked Orient, "they look perfect like the one we study,". He kept scanning his body and noticed that his insects were making cocoons in his body, his muscles were getting better even if they just got a little smaller but the atrophy was gone, and his heart muscle was getting stronger; "the chakra channels solved the muscles problems, even your heart under the lower concentration of chakra seems to have the ability to finally fully adapt.".

The high concentration of chakra around some places was like venom and their absence around others killed them too.

Biji pulled a book from one of the shelves while Orient got his clothes on. "I think you know but I want to advise you," he said and gave the gigantic book to Orient, "Never let your chakra get exhausted or all that you have built will fall on your head and death will be inevitable," he sat on his chair and smiled at the small Aburame boy that broke a whole set of rules by having a foot in the Anbu, "you are phenomenal boy, so let me help one of our stars,"

Orient looked at the book. "General Anatomy," Biji called the book name, "6000 pages and has half the knowledge of human anatomy…if you ever needed help to understand anything in it, come to me, Beetle-kun". Orient bowed again and left.

Orient returned to the bar and lay on his bed. 'I'm going soft' he thought; he was slow, weak, short-breathed, and rusty. He knew that what he did was the right thing, however, too much rest ate through his skills.

3 knocks, a pause, a knock, a long pause, 3 knocks.

Orient opened the door and looked at the anbu. "Beetle, we had a mission,". Orient nodded and went to get ready.

Putting on his action clothes, checking on his weapons, installing everything, and having a good meal. Orient met Bee at the bar table. "B-mission, retrieving the body of a Jenin, obstacles: chonins, Jenin tiger, and an injured Jenin.". Orient nodded. "your role is a sensor," Bee got up and started to leave, "Follow me,".
