Chapter 204: Chapter 204: The Price of Headlines
Upon hearing this, Shin found himself both exasperated and amused. Yet, knowing Morgans' reputation as the kind of reporter who would even take on the World Government for a scoop, Shin couldn't help but respect the bird's unrelenting commitment to his profession.
While Shin held a degree of admiration for Morgans' dedication, he wasn't going to let his irritating headlines slide. Morgans had scribbled freely and irresponsibly, and now he'd have to pay the price.
Dark mist rippled as Shin's powers enveloped Morgans. When the albatross reappeared, he felt an unusual chill all over his body. Looking down, he screamed in horror.
"Gah~~, where's my hair?!"
All over the island, Morgans' distressed squawking echoed. The once-feathered albatross was now a bald "white chicken," as Shin had used his abilities to permanently destroy every hair follicle on Morgans' body. Not a single feather would grow back.
With matters settled, Shin and his group finally departed the banquet hall. Halfway through, Violet caught Shin's eye, giving him a covert wink. Shin nodded knowingly, transformed into a dragon, and flew off with his companions.
Meanwhile, back on Whole Cake Island:
"Where did that woman, Stussy, go?"
"No idea. She must have slipped away."
"Damn it! The next time I see her, she'll regret it!"
Shin and his companions soon found themselves near the outskirts of Whole Cake Island, where a ship lay docked by a deserted isle. Shin returned to his human form as they landed. Suddenly, Violet's gaze shifted, her eyes transforming into the kaleidoscopic Mangekyō Sharingan. Reaching out her hand, she summoned a space from within and out stumbled none other than Stussy.
"Captain, I've got her," Violet said, covering her eyes gently. "The power of these eyes is overwhelming."
Before the confrontation with Charlotte Linlin, Shin had transplanted the Mangekyō Sharingan to Violet, instructing her to use it to retrieve Stussy into the alternate space of Kamui. If Shin had simply allowed Stussy to leave on her own, the World Government would have suspected her, likely checking her soul, memory, and psyche multiple times. By having Violet discreetly rescue her, they ensured everyone would assume she had simply escaped on her own.
At the moment, Stussy was still severely injured. Fortunately, as a top CP0 agent, she had trained in life return, preventing her condition from becoming fatal.
Looking up warily at Shin and the others, Stussy prepared to speak, but Shin didn't give her a chance. With his gaze locked onto her, he swiftly activated Kotoamatsukami.
"Name?"
"Stussy."
"Affiliation?"
"Queen of the Pleasure District and CP0 operative, codename: Queen Bee."
"What's your rank within CP0?"
"I am the third-ranking member of the organization, in charge of intelligence. Only two individuals are above me: the Celestial Dragon's representative and the CP0 leader, who oversees military operations."
Hearing this, Shin's expression brightened with satisfaction. He'd suspected from the start that Stussy likely held a significant intelligence role within CP0. The prestigious title of Queen of the Pleasure District would hardly be entrusted to a low-ranking agent, suggesting she wielded considerable influence in her organization.
Shin then squinted thoughtfully. "Is there anyone in CP0 with abilities like mind control or mind reading?"
"We have agents with basic hypnotic abilities, but their skills are limited to influencing regular agents," Stussy responded.
Relieved by this, Shin sighed internally. One of his main hesitations about implanting Kotoamatsukami into someone within the Marine ranks was the fear of exposure due to Vice Admiral Tsuru's purification powers. Knowing CP0 lacked someone of her caliber gave him the confidence to proceed.
Extending his hand, Shin enveloped Stussy in dark energy, and after a few moments, she reemerged fully healed. Not only that, Shin had also implanted a biochip in her brain, adding a layer of insurance and enhancing her ability to harness her life return.
For an agent like Stussy, who relied heavily on the Navy's six-style techniques, the biochip would undoubtedly strengthen her combat skills, making her comparable to a Vice Admiral. However, Stussy's actual value to Shin lay not in her combat prowess but in her intellect and cunning.
"Given that your identity was exposed within the Big Mom Pirates, what's your plan going forward?" Shin inquired.
"It's not a concern," Stussy replied smoothly. "The Big Mom Pirates have practically severed ties with every underground organization. In the past, they relied on Pudding's memory manipulation abilities to handle sensitive information by altering memories as needed."
She continued, "Now, however, things are different. All I need to do is eliminate the major leaders of the underground and pin the blame on Big Mom, and nobody would believe any explanations from them!"
It made sense. If Stussy left and all the prominent underground bosses perished on Big Mom's territory, it would seem obvious where the blame lay. Claims that Stussy had been an undercover CP0 agent would be dismissed as defensive excuses.
Outwardly, others might not directly oppose the Big Mom Pirates, but in the shadows, those remaining in the underworld would keep their distance.
The Big Mom Pirates easily surpassed Stussy in sheer strength, yet she excelled in schemes and deceit. Having navigated the spy life in CP0, her cunning was a powerful weapon.
Of course, Shin knew the world still operated based on strength. Hence, he had bolstered her abilities to a Vice Admiral level. Though she might not be able to challenge Big Mom's sweet commanders head-on, Stussy could evade and stay a step ahead, especially with her strategic expertise and knowledge of pirate movements.
