Chapter 71: Ch 71 : Akatsuki
Ayano was holding tea and snacks as she approached the study door.
However, when she pushed open the door, she found that everything inside the study was floating, as if gravity had disappeared.
Countless books and some ornaments were suspended in mid-air, and even the large bookshelf was swaying about ten centimeters above the ground.
The chair Makoto had been sitting in was also floating, as if it were a small boat adrift in the sea.
Ayano stood at the door, stunned, not daring to enter.
At that moment, Makoto glanced at her and said, "Come in."
Hearing this, Ayano cautiously stepped into the study.
As she had expected, her first step seemed to miss the ground.
She then felt an invisible force lift her up.
The sensation of weightlessness was uncomfortable, and she couldn't help but cry out in surprise as she was carried toward Makoto.
"Lord Makoto..." she said, a bit frightened.
Ayano floated closer to Makoto, her body tense, afraid she might suddenly fall.
"Don't be afraid," Makoto said.
The bookshelf returned to its original position, and the books and ornaments flew back onto it one by one.
Makoto and Ayano slowly descended to the ground, allowing Ayano to feel grounded once more.
"Ha~" Makoto let out a sigh, a trace of fatigue appearing on his face.
His chakra reserves were limited, and if he were to fall during flight due to a lack of chakra, it would be quite embarrassing.
Relying solely on his chakra wasn't enough.
If only he could fully master natural energy.
But there were no precedents for this in any of the books, and he would have to rely on his own trial and error.
With his growing sensory abilities, Makoto was now able to clearly sense the vast sea of natural energy around him.
According to the original work, chakra is the product of an equal mixture of physical and mental energy.
However, if one could mix physical energy, mental energy, and natural energy in equal parts, it would result in senjutsu chakra.
But Makoto estimated that the training for this would carry significant risks.
The original work showed how Naruto turned into a frog statue when he couldn't properly control the balance of the energies during his training.
What if he couldn't control the balance of natural energy entering his body?
Would he be able to expel it?
He had never dared to try lightly.
Makoto picked up a piece of cake and put it in his mouth, saying,
"I'm hungry. Go make something to eat."
"Oh! Okay!" Ayano snapped back to reality and quickly agreed.
As she walked out of the living room, she realized it was only a little past 10 a.m., and hadn't they just had breakfast not long ago?
Why was she so hungry so soon…?
After eating, Makoto felt that most of his energy had been restored.
Ayari arrived, and upon seeing Makoto still at home, she was surprised and said, "What are you doing here?"
Makoto sighed and replied, "This is my home."
Ayari asked, "Aren't you going to work?"
"I'll go later."
Ayari then pouted and said, "If I had known you were here, I wouldn't have come."
Makoto : "..."
Why did that sound so bratty?
When Makoto was about to leave, he didn't engage in idle chatter with her and just headed out.
While walking down the street, he suddenly saw the police force arresting someone.
A group of people had gathered, watching as two ninjas escorted two drunk men away.
From what the people around him were saying, it seemed that the two drunk men had gotten into a scuffle due to a verbal altercation, and the police force had intervened, though their methods were somewhat violent.
Passersby were discussing among themselves, wondering if it was really necessary to be so harsh over just two drunks.
Makoto's mind stirred slightly, and he asked one of the bystanders,
"Aren't these all Uchiha clan members?"
The passerby replied, "No, the Uchiha clan members wear the Uchiha clan armband. These are all new recruits to the police force, ninjas who joined recently. They are very strict in their daily duties, and people tend to be afraid of them."
Makoto pondered for a moment upon hearing this.
It seemed that Fugaku's methods still had some effect.
........
In the Land of Rain.
Within the rapidly rising mercenary group, the Akatsuki, the atmosphere was relaxed.
"Is this another letter from Iwagakure?" Yahiko looked at the letter Konan had brought and frowned.
"Tell them that if they want to establish a stable partnership, they must follow our principles. The Akatsuki will not assist them in military expansion."
Iwagakure seemed quite interested in their strength and had approached them multiple times to discuss cooperation.
Akatsuki had been hired by Iwa several times, but it had only been for routine jobs.
Gradually, the tasks Iwa entrusted to them became more extreme, including invading other countries.
Although the pay was generous, Yahiko had turned them down every time.
Yahiko sighed. "These great nations only think about themselves. It's not easy to make them experience the same suffering we've been through and come to understand each other."
Konan, standing beside him, said, "We will succeed."
Yahiko chuckled lightly at her words.
He naturally believed in that too.
Everyone in the Akatsuki had suffered through the horrors of war, and it was because of this shared conviction that they followed him.
"Lord Yahiko!"
A member suddenly entered from outside.
"What's the matter?"
"Some Konoha ninjas have arrived. They say they want to meet you."
Konoha?
Yahiko and Konan exchanged a glance, both surprised by the unexpected visitor.
Yahiko chuckled. "It seems our reputation has grown quite a bit if even Konoha is seeking us out."
He and Konan walked outside and saw a young boy standing outside their base, wearing Konoha's Anbu uniform.
However, his pale white eyes made it clear that his age shouldn't be underestimated.
The Byakugan of the Hyuga clan...
Yahiko froze for a moment, as this was the first time he had seen someone with the Byakugan.
He was curious about how the boy's eyes compared to Nagato's.
As Yahiko approached, Nagato stepped aside, allowing him to pass.
However, Nagato's gaze towards the Konoha ninja was far from friendly.
"Are you the leader of the Akatsuki, Yahiko?" the Byakugan boy asked.
Yahiko nodded. "Yes, what is it that you need?"
Hyuga Hakumen handed him a scroll, tossing it directly toward him.
Yahiko caught it steadily in his hand.
The scroll had no seals, and could be opened immediately.
After reading its contents, Yahiko's expression immediately darkened.
He casually handed the scroll to Nagato beside him.
Yahiko asked Hakumen, "Is this the only reason you came?"
Hakumen calmly replied, "This is the will of our Hokage. If you have no further message for me, I will take my leave."
Yahiko paused for a moment before responding, "Tell your Hokage I will consider it."
Hakumen nodded and immediately turned to leave.
Only then did Nagato and Konan move closer, both having read the contents of the scroll.
Nagato furrowed his brows and asked, "Yahiko, do you think this is trustworthy?"
Yahiko replied, "We have no conflicts of interest with Konoha. They wouldn't go so far as to come all this way just to deceive us."
Konan expressed her concern, "What about Hanzo?"
Yahiko took a deep breath, removed the forehead protector from his head, and stared at it in his hand for a long time.
Nagato said, "Yahiko, we don't need to rely on anyone's power. These great nations are all untrustworthy!"
Yahiko remained silent, fully aware of Nagato's hatred for Konoha.
He finally said, "I need to think this through carefully."
