Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Chapter 2: Clan Leader's Test

I was considered a genius as I was able to fluently speak when I was just six months old. Not only that but I also learned to read just the same.

My name is Jin Yucheon, and I belong to a Medium-size Clan in the Sky Demon Order called Lightning Step Clan.

And I was born as the 3rd Young Master of that Clan. My father is the Clan Head, Jin Beak and my mother is Seo Hwa Yoo.

In terms of political power or inheritance, I was the most left out since I was the youngest. But such a thing didn't matter to me.

As long as I can train, I have no concern over who controls the Clan. After all this is just a small clan compared to my true goal, the Sky Demon Order.

1 Years Old.

Jin Baek took notice of his 3rd child's immense talent. Amongst his children, only the 3rd child exhibits some form of talent.

His 1st and eldest child was too complacent, thinking that his birthright will carry everything for him. He slacked off on his training and academics, only focusing on fooling around.

Whilst his 2nd was quite normal, in fact he was too normal. Average. And an average man can't run a Clan.

He doesn't exhibit any form of talent or excellence. He was already 14 years old and about to enter the Demonic Academy and yet he is still struggling to enter the Third-rate realm.

The Lightning Step Clan may be a medium-sized clan inside the Cult but outside it can be compared to a powerhouse. And such power cannot be controlled by a normal man.

He was extremely disappointed. His 1st son is too complacent and his 2nd son is too average. If either the two of these inherit the clan, the Lightning Step Clan would crumble.

But as he was despairing, it seems like Cheon Ma heard his plea and gave him a third child from his affair.

At first he disregarded him as he was just a mistake made from an affair. But the child was unique, he was a genius.

He was only Six months old yet he can speak fluently, read like a scholar, and walk like a man. If that is not a genius, he doesn't know what is.

But it was too early to get his hopes up, he already made that mistake twice, so he silently observed from the shadows.

As he watched he grew more fond of his child. One time as a test he sent a certain problem and wanted no one to help as he wanted to see how his child would solve it himself.

He wanted to see what his reaction would be when he was left all alone in the manor for a month. The mother of the child begged him not to do it, saying he would die if he was left alone with no one.

She cried and begged him not to do it but he remained impassive. For him this was necessary to ensure the future of Lightning Step Clan.

"Please! Clan Leader don't do this!" A woman who was in her early thirties begged on her knees in front of a middle-aged man who was wearing a luxurious martial robe.

Tears and snot run down her face as she hugged the legs of the man who she calls Clan Leader. Actually, this woman is the man's unofficial wife, a concubine if you will.

And she is also the mother of Jin Yucheon.

"Enough, women. I have made up my mind. The child will undergo my test." Jin Beak said coldly.

"He is only a year old! He will die if you leave him alone!" She cried.

Jin Beak stepped back, forcing her to lose her balance and fall forward. "If he dies, then he was never meant to carry the Lightning Step Clan's legacy," he said with an air of finality. His gaze turned sharper, piercing through her. "I have no use for weaklings."

Her tears fell freely as she looked up at him, her voice trembling. "He's just a child… a baby. What kind of father would—"

"Silence!" Jin Beak's voice thundered, silencing her instantly. He leaned down slightly, his shadow enveloping her fragile frame.

"I have sacrificed too much for this clan. My patience with mediocrity is at its end. If this boy is truly the genius he appears to be, he will survive. If not… then I will mourn no further." His voice was chilling. So cold that it can almost freeze the air.

With a wave of his hand, he gestured to his servants. "Take her away. Ensure she does not interfere."

A pair of guards approached, gripping her arms firmly. She thrashed against their hold, screaming, "You're condemning him to die! No one—no child—should have to endure this!"

As they dragged her away, Jin Beak didn't so much as glance in her direction. "Lock her in my manor. She is not to leave until the test is complete."

The servants bowed. "As you wish, Clan Leader."

The servant dragged her away, she fought them but alas she was not taught in the way of martial arts thus she was helpless against them.

Then he ordered everyone in the manor to leave. It was in the middle of the night and the child was still asleep, only when he wakes up in the morning will he realize that he's all alone.

He was sleeping peacefully unbeknownst of the horrors happening around him.
