7: After School Adventure Story!
“So, our thrilling after-school adventure story begins, Uraku!”
“No, it doesn’t. What kind of concept is that? It sounds like it wouldn’t get any ratings at all. Just let me go home.”
“Huh? So, are you coming to my house…?”
“What do you mean ‘so’? Stop making nonsensical connections!”
Though we wobbled a bit, we somehow managed to ride tandem successfully and were gently riding home.
The time after school is a bit special, with fewer non-students around and more students in sight, just before evening.
A little later, you’d see more office workers and shoppers as they finished their day.
It’s a short, limited, but not overly special time between day and night.
I quite like that time when I look at it that way.
If it weren’t for the other students staring at us in disbelief, thinking they were seeing something unbelievable, I would probably feel the same today.
Considering Kamidama, who naturally attracts attention, and me, who doesn’t seem approachable, it’s understandable.
It’s not pleasant—actually, I hate being looked at in any way, so it’s unavoidable.
“But you’re not just going straight home, right?”
“Well, that was the plan… How do you know that?”
“Because I’m your wife, Uraku.”
“Yeah, yeah… So, where are we going? I usually just go to a family restaurant.”
Other than that, I might go to karaoke if I feel like it, or just ride my bike aimlessly.
There aren’t many places for a student to hang out for a long time after school.
I don’t dislike arcades, but I end up spending too much money. I can’t enjoy window shopping at malls. I like bookstores, but I don’t like standing and reading for long.
However, Kamidama lives in a different world, or rather, in a different environment.
She might know places to hang out that I don’t know about.
As I leisurely pedaled, Kamidama clung to me and murmured, “Well, let’s see…”
“When I’m alone, I often go to the library. You can read, study, and relax there, right?”
“Oh, the library, huh? But isn’t it a bit far? At least, I wouldn’t walk there.”
“Ah, yeah, the big one is. But there’s a small one in this town too.”
“Really? I didn’t know that.”
I thought I had explored this area pretty thoroughly after school.
I guess I can’t beat a local (probably).
“So, let’s go to the library… But today is its closing day. Oh! There’s another place I want to go to. Is that okay?”
“As long as it’s not too far and not some overly lively place.”
“Lively place? What kind of person do you think I am, Uraku?”
I think she embodies the lively type, but saying it might bring some man-made misfortune, so I kept it to myself.
I laughed it off. I felt her grip tighten a bit around my waist.
“Oh, come on… But I like that about you.”
“Really? You have terrible taste.”
“You say that about yourself?”
“Of course. I generally approve of myself, but I don’t think I’m perfect.”
Using terms like “lively” and “reserved” shows that I am aware of it.
If I truly didn’t care, I wouldn’t use those terms. That’s how it is.
Still, I don’t intend to change myself.
At least, I like myself as I am now.
Having my feelings bluntly reciprocated so much that I’ve become numb and can brush it off—I’m very pleased with that.
My adaptability amazes me.
“So, where do you want to go?”
“Well, do you have any money today, Uraku?”
“Is this a shakedown? Look, I would cry and beg for mercy immediately if threatened, so don’t.”
“Of course not!”
“It’s just that it’s more fun with some money. That’s all!” Kamidama hugged me tightly as she said that.
